New Wave U.Go Plein Air Anywhere Pochade Box, Ultra Lightweight Baltic Birch wood with Stainless Steel and Aluminum construction, Medium measures 8.4 x 11.25 x 1.25 inches (00702)

I deliberated for a couple of months before making the decision to buy. It was a choice of this, a Richeson Sienna or a range of much cheaper options from Meeden. In the end it was a toss up between this large Ugo pochade or the Sienna. The cost of both are comparable by the time you buy the glass pallete and two side trays. The various reviews citing some concerns over quality inspection made me cautious but I needn’t have worried. The build and material quality is more than worth the cost. I was also worried that this might not be big enough, particularly the palette but it’s more than big enough. I’vevattached it to my old camera tripod without any issues and it feels very stable although I might still invest in a heavier tripod at a later date. It is a lot of money but well worth it. I’m in two minds whether I need to get the glass palette as it will add weight but good to know that I can easily swap it out when needed. As you can see from the photos, it has a firm grip on my acrylic paper pad. I’ll report back later once it’s been used but so far very very pleased and glad that I went with this over other options. *update* I’ve since bought the glass palette and side tray which improves and already amazing product. The glass palette adds weight but the side tray is very light. I went with K&F concept tripod in preference to Ugo branded which is £100 cheaper and higher spec.

New Wave U-Go for Plein air painters This section has been very clever design with magnetic strips inside Open the Pochade box made of Baltic birch wood , which has section striped out In the centre you will see two teeth branches these, at first, are slightly difficult to move but once you get the hang of the operation they easily slide up and down to hold your support Your support may consist of MDF boards, Canvass, canvass boards or whatever your painting on. As long as your supports have slight depth In the lower section of your Pochade Box is a translucent Perspex sheet acting as your painting palette and to the right beside a magnet wood strip which you can remove to allow the Perspex sheets removal…for cleaning. To make my box lighter I completely removed the U-Go thick perspex sheet and instead laid a piece of thin white card and a lighter sheet translucent “dry point” acetate . My only concern is how long the magnets will last and the hinges to the Pochade box as they are stiff when new. It comes with an attachment which screws into the underside of the Pochade box this allow you to fix a tripod. Warning make sure you splay out the legs of your tripod as far vas you can to get stability., otherwise the entire unit wobbles violently. I would strongly suggest in a breeze or windy conditions to hang a weighted bag from the centre of your tripod to make sure your unit doesn’t fall over. I used a bull dog clip and string to hang my solvent bucket In the front portion of your Pochade box there are carved out sections where l laid my twin Liquin mediums or a useful place for charcoal, pencils etc., I purchased the largest sized box 14x11inches which fitted into my pink rucksack I also used medical 14 day pill boxes to contain my oil paints … twelve colours plus Titanium and Black which sat in the ,left side arm which is a useful additional expense. I am hoping to get a right side arm section where I want to drill holes so that my brushes stay vertically instead nof being horizontally as they has a tendency to roll. All set, You are ready to go… much lighter than the traditional French Artist wooden easel and all the extra bits we painters have to carry. Happy Plein air painting fellow Artists.

An amazingly well made pochade! Beautiful construction, and great functionality. I think the finish is excellent - and while it is pricey, you can tell it's made of good quality materials. Easy to use - and surprisingly lightweight

Love love love this easel ....so simple to set up. Was worth having one of the additional shelves and the tripod to mount on. All fits into a small medium sized rucksack and really feel i could carry this anywhere

I have a middle sized version but feel that this large version is more suitable for plein air or indoors, offering more space for colour mixing and for fitting larger panels. Made in Buffalo and sent from there via Amazon- great service.

Finally U.Go Plaine aire arrive few days after side shelf’s. My one order was delivered by Amazon in 3 different days which was very inconvenient as I am staying in the hotel. Such a disappointment! Removable side pice badly finished / rough/ and magnetic support for side tray set so deep that has not supported the tray. Had to send this back and order another one immediately. Crazy but I had no option because I through away side trays boxes which arrive two days earlier so I am stuck with them! Otherwise I would not bother at all with U.Go! The product is very expensive but luck of quality control is shockingly dreadful!! I dream for few years of this U.Go and staying in UK finally given me the opportunity to purchase one. Today the second U.Go will arrive so I hope that would be in better condition and no need to send back. Two days left in the hotel so no time for sending back! Saying that I am disappointed it's understatement!
