Maurer & Wirtz Tabac Original After Shave Lotion for Men, 5.1 Ounce

Have you ever wanted to smell like a German dad in the 1960s? Yeah, me too, and that's why I bought this classic. Unfortunately, it's counterpart that is supposed to make you smell like an American dad in the 1960s, Old Spice, has been long diluted into a complete shell of it's former glory by Procter & Gamble. Cheap plastic bottles have replace the old school ceramic style ones, and the scent itself lasts for about 20 minutes before completely vanishing into a cheap, generic soapy smell. Maurer & Wirtz has held onto the Tabac brand since creation, and the aftershave is still bottled in high quality ceramic, with nice precision fluid stoppers built in, and the scent is as strong and vibrant as it ever has been I imagine. It's a classically masculine floral scent that admittedly, not every person, especially nowadays, will love. I'm definitely an old soul, however, and this is strongly within my wheelhouse. If you like scents such as Old Spice, Aqua Velva, or even Skin Bracer, I recommend this as it's essentially Germany's own verison of those, and just as timeless.

This aftershave evokes fond memories of my childhood growing up in South Asia. Wherever there were men of distinction, there I would smell this: the male teachers' lounge at my all-boys private school, places of worship, offices, high-end stores, and at the homes of relatives. I had just used the Tabac Original shave soap, and wanted to try the matching aftershave. I was pleased with this scent, and the memories it brought back. It's not a "modern" "sporty" scent, like Nivea aftershaves. It smells like...your well-groomed uncle in the 1980's. Perhaps not to everyone's liking, but I like it.

After reading many reviews of Tabac aftershave, I took a chance and purchased it. I was not disappointed! I found it to be a very fresh and soapy clean barbershop scent that is not overpowering but it does last most of the day for me. It also feels great on my skin after a close shave. I'm not sure why some people find it to be polarizing. It has a masculine aroma; definitely not feminine (the floral notes are mild). I like this aftershave so much I eventually intend to purchase the EDC and EDT. Take a chance on it if you're on the fence. It's been around since 1959 for good reason!

I first purchased Tabac in Paris in 1974...and it has not changed a bit. An aftershave, so not quite so heavy. Earthy and light...a pleasant fragrance that is refreshingly different from other products. Nice size bottle and not very expensive. Arrived in factory packaging, perfect condition. Try it!
