It does the job and is long lasting
I bought this backpack 18 months ago and it has been perfect for my needs. Here is the average load I pack:1 bottle of water1 cell phone1 Axim X50v PDA, extra battery with extended battery and case.GPS receiever with bluetooth transmitter1 large (900+ page)full-sized text book2 notebooks, 1 student guide4 pencils, 3 pensfirst aid kit (basic stuff only)1 Texas Instrument Ti-89 calculator1 small and 1 medium flashlight$3.00 in coins1 pocket sized am/fm/weather emergency radio1 set of tool ID tags1 set of gloves, scarf, ear muff1 tightly-wound squall jacket1 Leatherman multi-tool1 pocket TV1 set of AA batteries (4 pack)1 headphone (the small kind)1 pack of travel tissue1 pack each of peanuts, crackers and chipsThe pack with this load is a bit more than 1/2 full and is comfortably manageable. The load-bearing straps are designed well enough that the weight is balanced and it doesn't feel awkward as with cheaper backpacks. In fact, I generally just carry it on one shoulder and it doesn't slip like the other packs would. The water bottle has never fallen out, and I carry this pack in some fairly physically active conditions. It has seen weather...100 degrees to 17 degrees Fahrenheit. Lot's of rain, some snow, and it hasn't even began to show wear after 18 months. There are no torn corners, no unravelling threads, or worn spots. Amazing!About 8 months ago I had a bottle of 7-Up in my pack and the lid wasn't on proper. A lot of the soft drink leaked out soaking the pocket of my pack that the bottle was in. The next-door pockets that had my notebooks, textbook, and calculator remained dry. I am not saying it is water-proof, but the pack certainly contained the damage. After drying out, that pocket where the accident happened was fine. The one thing it could not handle was Sergeant peeing on it. It didn't come apart and doesn't show physical damage...but it smells. Sergeant is my dog, and I mistakenly left the pack on the floor after not paying enough attention to him (bless his heart) and he paid me back in spades. I am buying a new pack today, and some tennis balls to play catch with him.The negatives about this backpack are few. One, it is a bit large for a locker. When the pack is 1/2 full (with the load described above) it will fit in a standard locker, but needs to be guided, as you can't just toss it in like with smaller packs. If you are packing a full-sized text-book and a laptop, you will have to take the text book out and put it in the bottom of the locker and set the pack on top.It is very easy to put TOO much stuff in this pack. It has the room, and it is natural to want to use all of that room. It might seem trivial reading this, but really...you have to be conscience of the fact that you can pack too much.I carried an ALICE pack in the USMC for 4 years and that was a tough, roomie pack. This pack compares extremely well for both endurance and roominess and is far more comfortable and smaller in size. That is why I give it 5 stars.

Heavy Duty with being too heavy for duty
Great product. High quality and has LOTS of compartments for pretty much everything you could possibly want. This bag is best suited for large/larger laptops. On the other hand, I've used it with my netbook and filled the extra space with clothes and stuff for an entire weekend. It was great to carry and a lot more useful than an attache style bag. This COULD be a weekender if necessary whereas the attache types are strictly computer bags. For day to day use, it does a great job in protecting and separating your laptop from all your other debris. The only negative side of this is that if you pack LIGHTLY, it is bit too many compartments and material-- not heavy, just.. a lot. It also has a very "computery" look so don't think you'll be fooling anyone into not swiping your unattended bag. It might blend in better than other bags but it isn't exactly a cheap looking bag, it looks expensive... so thieves will assume that it holds something expensive. Act accordingly.

Great... for awhile. UPDATED!
It has a lot of space and can fit many things. I put my books, folders, and other school supplies in it and it holds pretty much all of it just fine. After about 2 months of use though it is coming apart a the seams. it has ripped in multiple places and I am quite disappointed with how fast the thing has started to come apart. Yes it holds a lot of things but the material it is built out of won't last long.Update!I contacted amazon about my dissatisfaction with the backpack and they sent me a new one and asked me to return the old one. The new one came broke so I called amazon customer service and they refunded my fully for the item and told me to discard the dysfunctional backpacks. The customer service I received with this issue is second to none and I am very satisfied with how helpful amazon's customer service was. I give 5 stars for the customer service and 3 for the item due to the problems I had with it.

4.5/5 Stars. Pretty good
1 stars for good business style; I don't like anything flashy etc.1.5 star for the compartments. My mouse, my cords and charger, kindle fire all have happy homes when going out, but I wish there were more compartments for smaller stuff. But I think this won't be a problem for most others and the third compartment from the front/ flap compensates for my problem because I can just easily slip my umbrella, a novel, or something I grab by on the go. The laptop compartment is also quite cushioned, so it's a good shock absorber. I can somehow even jam my Case Logic PLS-15 Neoprene Laptop Sleeve in this laptop compartment although it's unnecessary.1.5 stars for durability and comfort. The back panel and the straps have mesh cushions on them, so it won't rub and this is quite beneficial since I carry a laptop, binders, books, etc etc which weighs in total with the bag about 17 pounds. Although this weight with the bag doesn't pose a problem for me, if you are prone to back problems or aren't used to such weight, then please don't try shoving this bag with bricks and stones and walk around all day with it.My bags are also prone to receiving small tears at the bottom because of rough surfaces even in the first few weeks. I have currently been using this for about a month, and so far I have not had such problems yet.0.5 star. The size is arguably big and great. I think I'll take this with my on my travels as my carry on. However, I was expecting something slightly (emphasize slightly) larger as in I was hoping the laptop compartment would be a bit more roomy so that I could perhaps slip in a folder or two. Perhaps it is just big, but this bag also looks bulky. If it ere not for the dominantly black/ grey/ brown colors, it would have looked ridiculously big on my back.Overall, this is a pretty good bag for high school kids, college kids/ adults with a lot of materials to lug around, and people in business who need to abide by a more conservative dress code, and it'll lasts for a long time to come.

Great bag for someone who likes to stay organized.
Great bag altogether. I like how it has multiple compartments which is great for me as a student. I carry my laptop, text books and about 6 notebooks plus laptop charger, external HDD and all other necessary tools for a student. So as you can see, you can carry a lot and keep everything organized. There's even a pocket to store your mp3 player (or phone) with a headphone cable slot through it. Materials used are good quality. I've had it for about 2 months carrying a heavy load and no seams have loosened or torn. Would recommend.

Ottimo!
