What is it? This delicious nutrient rich seed has more potassium, fiber, and calcium than any other grain or seed. Jnantik Superfood (a.k.a. Ramon, Capomo, and Breadnut) is beyond organic, as the seed is wild harvested as done traditionally on the pristine rainforest floor from the 150 ft tall Maya Seed Tree (brosimum alicatrum). Why an alternative to coffee? Coffee is ok for occasional use, but when used daily, it loses its effectiveness and also takes a toll on our body, taxing our adrenals and our gut health. The Maya Seed has that same roasted flavor, yet it is alkalizing to the body, and high in the prebiotic fiber our digestive system need. People swear by being able to leave coffee after drinking this! You can still drink your beloved coffee and have a cup of this in the afternoon to continue with the daily ritual, without the caffeine, or you can also mix the two seeds in a French press for a more balanced, yet rich and delicious drink. Preparation Step 1: Mix in 2 teaspoons of Jnantik Maya Seed Coffee Alternative into a cup of hot water, or add 2 teaspoons for every 1 cup of water into a French press. Step 2: Add your favorite milk, sweetener and a pinch of spice like cinnamon, cacao or maca. NOTE: No need to throw away the grinds. They can be rebrewed or added to smoothies and baked goods! * These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Very nice coffee alternative but pricey
I found that the amount of product used should be about double the recommended for the flavor I prefer. But it is a nice product; no off flavors. The product dust does get everywhere so be careful opening the package. But an overall very good product.

Roasted to the right level
The level of roasting is perfect. I had purchased from another vendor the same product (different packaging, etc.) and theirs was a black color and tasted bitter and terrible. The Jnantik one tastes so much better and looks brown. That said, it’s an acquired taste. I was looking for a coffee alternative to drink in the afternoon because coffee causes me insomnia. Well, this is a great product which has the right nutrients and no caffeine. However, it affects me just like coffee - gives me lots of energy and... keeps me up at night. I can see how it is good for breastfeeding mothers to help their milk supply- it sure provides lots of energy. Unfortunately I won’t be using this product because of the insomnia it causes me.

Delicious morning (or evening!) beverage
Firstly: this isn't coffee. All those leaving 1 star reviews because it doesn't taste exactly like coffee should leave well enough alone.BUT:Does it hit that roasted, slightly bitter spot that coffee hits? Yes.Is it caffeine free? Yes.Is it alkalinizing vs acidic? Yes.Is it delicious with honey and (alternative) milk? Yes.Is the money supporting local Mayan communities vs the exploitive coffee plantations? Yes.Does buying this support native plantings and rain forest habitat? Yes.Is it easy to prepare (french press or straight into the cup if you want the fiber)? Yes.I made the switch and I haven't looked back. I have a tasty cup (my favorite is the Mocha version) every morning, and I can tell the difference in how reactive my autoimmune illness is. My gut health has also increased due to the no longer ingesting tons of acid. 100% recommended.

Not coffee, but a good substitute if you use a French Press
I've been looking for a good coffee substitute for years. (I LOVE coffee. It does not love me, however.) This is a good substitute, for me. It doesn't taste like coffee. However, it has that same roasted-bean bitterness that you get from coffee. For me, it's similar enough to the experience of coffee without the actual taste. I add coconut milk to mine and it's lovely. The seeds are all ground up, and they do not dissolve in your cup. This drink is best prepared using a French Press. (It's too fine for the Areopress.) I would only make one cup at a time, though. It will get bitter the longer the water is left in contact with the seeds.

Does not taste like coffee!
I am disappointed after much research that the product does NOT take like anything close to a coffee alternative! I tried to drink it brewed /with milk but alas was not able to find a suitable brewing method. If anyone has any ideas how to save this I would be very happy to entertain it! I am still giving it 3 stars because I will likely add it to my smoothies as a 'superfood' addition but it definitely won't replace my coffee.

Great would recommend!
I like this as a coffee substitute. I needed to stop drinking coffee as a while cause the caffeine was aggravating my stomach from always drinking espresso shots. I like the richness of this, it taste kinda like cinnamony hot chocolate but it give you the energy with out the caffeine. I enjoy as my morning drink and add my collagen and mct oil to with almond milk and it’s great. I would definitely recommend to coffee drinkers looking for a break or for those who don’t like coffee. I will say you need a strain or cause it is chunky since it’s not instant powder.

Not for me.
The taste just leaves me questioning what I'm drinking. It's slightly bad but mostly neutral. It's like a bland coffee or hot chocolate. The way it's ground up makes it hard to prepare. It's too fine for most filters and clogs up the ones that can catch the sediment. the sediment tastes bland but just feels weird: an unpleasant mouth feel. Overall, I would not buy again and I would not recommend.

Ground into powder
Regular flavor. The taste of the project is light, relative to roasting, and fine tasting. But, they overgrind this making it a powder...complete with a "puff" if you blow in the bag. This leads to blocking up the filter in my drip maker and it won't finish brewing. I won't buy again.
