Does anyone know the difference between this sub and the Reference 10? By checking the specs it only seems to be the subwoofer, "copper spun"?

From reading the specs. The K-100SW has the exact same specs as the R-10SW, EXCEPT for the Copper Spun speaker cone AND the amp. In the K-100SW the amp puts out 100 watts RMS vs the R-10SW's 150. Same dimensions, same finish, same material, same weight.

The plug i buy for this speaker is it the rca "y" cable? it is usally 2 plugs that go in speaker and on plug into receiver?

Yes, you can use rca Y cable, but you can also use regular RCA cable. You can connect one end to one of the two ports on the speaker and other end to the receiver..

Can you leave the sub on all the time?

Yes, you can.  There is an automatic shut-down mode when no audio is applied to its input jack or jacks, depending which input you decide to use.  Upon audio being reapplied, it takes approximately 1 to 2 seconds to recognize the audio and apply power to the internal audio power amplifier.  It's quite the handy auto on/off feature.

I bought one of these subs and 4 klipsch r-14m bookshelf speakers to listen to music in my shop (1200 sq. ft.). what kind of receiver do i buy?

If you're mainly using the system to play music (not as a surround sound theater system), buy a real good stereo receiver with all the necessary inputs and outputs, including two (A and B) sets of right/left speaker outputs and a sub-woofer output.  I highly recommend what I have... Cambridge Audio Topaz SR20 100W Digital Stereo Receiver... $599 on Amazon.  Of course, use high-quality interconnecting cables, too.
