How are these compared to the vic firth tala wands?

I like them much better. They last much longer. The tala wands break in the middle much faster because of the way they are wrapped to be held together.

Do these damage drum heads? It seems like the sharp 90 - degree rod tips would damage heads pretty easily.

I never had any head damage due to using the H-Rods. If you are using them properly most of the rods hit the rim of the snare drum to snap the ends to the head. That is just my opinion and method of use..... Keith

I just ordered the Promark H-Rods Hot Rods Drumn sticks. Is the red band suppose to move up and down to change the sound of the sticks?

Free Tip: I put about three wraps of duct tape around the outside of the mid-stick plastic band. I use the taped part of the stick on the thin edge of a cymbal for washes and quiet cymbal rolls - it is a bit like having fuzzy cymbal mallets already in your hands, and it doesn't noticeably affect the stick weight.

Can these be used for classic snare druming?

Yes. Just note that the rebound is weaker than sticks.
