Follow the instructions
Just make sure to read the bottle. I rubbed the lotion into my child's face when we went in the water and it wasn't as effective. I love the ingredients and overall it worked well. They even sent us a coupon for 15% off another product.

Best sunscreen for water exposure
If I am spending the day at the beach, in the ocean, or doing any kind of water activities, like white-water rafting, THIS is the sunscreen to use. It's sticky, and so it stays on your skin even when you're wet. It's removed only by physical rubbing. The reality is, none of the sunscreens that say "waterproof" or "water-resistant" actually are. (We are in the world of physical, zinc-oxide-based sunscreens, the only kind you should be considering.) But the waxy texture of Purple Prairie creates an effective water seal.I do wear another sunscreen underneath - Burnout Ocean Tested Physical Spf30+ 3.4 OZ or Burnout Spf 30+ Kids Physical Sunscreen 3.4 Oz. - those are the best sunscreens out there, with 20% zinc oxide, although I recommend buying directly from the manufacturer's website burnoutsun.com to get the freshest batch. (The BurnOut will turn white when it gets wet, but not with Purple Prairie on top of it.) Then I put Purple Prairie on top, and I do rub it in slightly, contrary to the instructions, and in the end it's even & clear. Be careful not to rub too much - it has to be a layer over your skin. To add back color to my face, I put on Eltamd UV Physical SPF 41, 85-Gram , which is 9% titanium dioxide and 8% zinc oxide, ostensibly a sunscreen but really foundation, it's tinted and has lovely creamy coverage.Complicated? But it works. My skin is so pale, most foundations' lightest shade is too dark for me. I'm also 32. I have gone full days under the blazing tropic sun without sunburn (and hopefully, any skin damage): white-water rafting in Costa Rica, boat trip in Krabi, Thailand, going in and out of the water over a 12 hr sunny day (when my olive-skinned friends using chemical sunscreen burned, and became enthusiastic converts to "the sticky stuff").You have to reapply, of course. Every two hours *at most*; if you towel off, if there's big waves hitting your face. The nice thing is, if you pat your skin, you can tell that the sunscreen is still on, it's a nice safety blanket. Sill, everyone who says they burned using good sunscreen simply didn't reapply, or didn't apply enough. Remember, it has to form a physical layer over your skin. If it's rubbed off, the protection is gone. You should also avoid direct sun exposure if possible - wear a wide-brimmed hat, seek out shade - but with Purple Prairie, applied thoroughly and frequently, you can handle it.In conclusion, BEST sunscreen if you're headed to the beach. It has slight pleasant smell, and it's moisturizing, but most of all, it doesn't get washed off, seals in any sunscreen you have underneath, and I wouldn't go on vacation without it.

Probably better for just your face and not if you're going ...
I got this because it was natural for my kids. On a hot day when the kids just want to get in the pool, this is time consuming to apply. Not only that, but I felt my kids still got a sunburn even with several applications. Probably better for just your face and not if you're going in water. It does say that it is water resistant, as well to apply every hour or after getting wet or sweating. When you have several kids, that is just not going to happen :(

Works great for sports
Goes on easily. It does make my face a bit lighter, but it is not that noticeable. I applied it before playing volleyball and reapplied after 2 hours. Works well and doesn't drip into my eyes when I sweat. I deducted a star because it smells funny. I can't put my finger on it, but it reminds me of some sort of food spice...maybe cumin. It doesn't smell when I put it on, but the stick smells.

of time researching the best sunblock for tattoos
spent a lot! of time researching the best sunblock for tattoos, which was and is the only reason i buy this. the stick is great for this as you can trace the tattoo with a good amount and not worry like the sloppy and drippy liquid lotions. covers the tattoos perfectly so no fade damage occurs on the tatt and unlike the liquid you get no tan lines between inked and non-inked skin. i also will use a slight dab under my eyes, tip of nose and and nose area so i don't get any burning or wrinkles, yet doesn't give me 'raccoon' areas.. a big benefit is the pureness of the ingredients and high health and non-toxic rating it has received.

Used as directed and it did not work.
Me, my wife, and our 1 year old all used this on a recent trip to the beach and we all got scorched. We used it just as directed but no dice. We were bummed as we are looking for a safer sun block to use with less chemicals....but this did not work at all. The company that shipped it "Zoom Party" was very prompt and easy to work with on the return and refund. I would not recommend buying this product.

Stick 'em up
This is my third stick of this stuff. We love it. I have it in my purse and use it on the entire family, face and all. We go through a tube in one summer. Our brood consists of 2 adults and 2 kids. There is a slight scent but not chemical. It does go on a bit white but to me, all the good stuff does. It is wide enough in diameter that it generally only takes a couple swipes for good coverage.
