The included removal kit to remove the old cylinder was a lifesaver, and an absolute necessity! Even with it, it was very difficult, but without it, it would have been impossible! The one improvement I would make on this kit is for it to have a better grip on the old cylinder. Even I tighten the screws on this kit as tight as I possibly could It still slipped a little bit but I managed to get it off! The new cylinder works well with my old 2016 chair! I'm definitely keeping that kit, but I can't take the screws out of it because the end of the screws are flattened to the point where they don't come out of it.

I very seldom rate products, but this time I need to do just that. My favorite chair had a failing lift cylinder, and it was either buy a new one, or find a replacement cylinder and try to figure out how to change it out. I saw Dumont replacement cylinder and decided to try it. The cylinder's instructions were clear and well written, with excellent illustrations. The removal tool is a well designed and a clever low cost modification of a wheel puller. The addition of gloves in the kit was a nice touch. My only suggestion is that the outer diameter of the tool needs to be increased slightly, as the puller screws were rubbing on the cylinder shaft while I was tightening them as there was minimal clearance available. Other than that, the cylinder removal and installation methods were as described (my removal required the overnite application of WD-40 as suggested in the instructions). The cylinder seems very strong and MUCH beefier than the orginal that came with the chair. This is a great choice if you want to keep your favorite chair whos lift cylinder is failing. Well worth the effort and a great value.

Removing the old cylinder was very difficult from my 20+ years old office chair. After several tries with the removal tool on day one, we carefully applied pentrative lubricant and left it overnight. Several more attempts with removal tool failed, then we switched to pipe wrench and channel lock with zero movement. We eventually succeeded by using a small sledge hammer. New cylinder was easy to install but didn't work at first, so we disassembled the seat and found that the the button was too stiff. A gentle tap with the slege softened it enough to depress and engage the cylinder. I'm happy to have repaired my chair and would do it again if needed, but it was definitely not any easy task.

I bought this because I was so annoyed and tired of my chair on max height always thumping down an inch every couple minutes until fully decompressed. A lot more affordable kit that comes with pretty much everything, e.g. cloth gloves, cylinder/cylinder removal tool, Allen key, and easy step by step instructions. Its gonna take some patience to remove the chair mount to cylinder. Make sure to tighten the bottom clamp tool as tight as possible and keep top clamp loose. Be prepared for some sore thumbs/hands. Installation with everything apart is actually quick and easy, but removing old cylinder can vary. All in all, the new cylinder is much smoother going up/turning. Also, it goes a lot higher than stock and I can finally rest my leg on my desk to parallel. I'll keep an update on longevity and reliability. I am over 70 and not to patient. When my gaming chair started losing height and refusing to raise unless I pulled it up, my first thought was toss it in the lake. I only have had this chair for 3 months and am not happy with parts failing. I checked online about getting the gas cylinder repaired and was bombarded with 20,000 ads for new gas cylinders. I checked many and decided on this one. Right off the top, the gloves were a joke. They were so small I doubt a 5 year old could get them on. The rest of the kit was just fine and the parts were top of the line. I can't bend over for more than a minute without passing out so this took me most of an hour to complete. This new gas cylinder was 3 inches higher than the old one but that is fine. First thing i did after getting the chair upright was sit down and went to sleep.(oops) I had a little trouble getting the one collar tight enough so it would not move but a couple smacks on the allen wrench with a wood mallet and it got the message. It took very little effort to loosen the cylinder with the collars, even with my arthritic hands. The new cylinder went into place with no trouble at all. This kit is well worth the money.

I was so irritated with my chair in the study going down every time I sat on it, ending up lifting it multiple times during the day. I tried the circular clamp first and that lasted barely thru the day. I even tried putting duct tape on the stainless piston with the circular clamp and that failed as well. I was almost to the point of buying a new chair when I saw several of these kits out there but none so complete as this one with all the required tools to get this on and easy step by step instructions. At first I was very skeptical on how the removal was going to take place. Have to be really patient thru the process. First remove the wheeled bottom of the the chair, this took several hard whacks. Then remove the chair mount to cylinder. We need to ensure that we tighten the lower clamp really tight and keep the upper clamp loose. As someone said in another review to be prepared for sore thumb/fingers and hands. Not the case at all. With the allen key, I used a 12" long 0.75" diameter PVC tube I had laying in the garage to give a longer handle for leverage. The installation was pretty quick and easy. The new cylinder is very smooth and sits somewhat higher that the original which gives me me better lift options especially if another family member is using the chair. Ergonomically your foot needs to be flat on the floor when you sit on the chair. Will update further on the reliability, especially since the manufacturer has a 10 years warranty.

Seems to work good but it does not go down very low. I am 5' 9" and it is at the lowest setting and is still a little too high for me...by about 1". If you are shorter than this I would advise to check the heights that these cylinders lower down to (which I didn't do) and find one shorter or that goes lower. But I would say if you are 5'10" and over it would be fine. Also I tried in vain to use the removal tool included but it didn't work as my cylinder was stuck really good into the chair. I finally turned it upside down and sprayed WD-40 around the cylinder hole area. Let it set overnight and then took a 12" pipe wrench and a sledgehammer, cinched up the pipe wrench on the cylinder as close to the chair as could get it & hit the pipe wrench a couple of times real hard and eventually it started to turn and then it popped right out.

Could not get the collar to work and was going to return but was finally able to remove old cylinder by hammering at it for a while. Rate this a 4 as the Cylinder is fantastic.

Aber dies ist bedeutend leichter als die Verbindung zur Stuhlmechanik zu lösen. Leider gab es Verzögerungen beim Zoll. Hierfür kann der Anbieter jedoch nichts. Zur Gasdruckfeder kann ich nichts sagen, da ich diese nicht verwende. Das war der einzigste Anbieter für ein Demontage Werkzeug.

5 months later, Cylinder is already wobbly, squeaky, occasionally goes all the way down while i sit on it and also goes down about an inch while im sitting (if its trying to hold pressure? if that makes sense). not good.. wasnt the cheapest option either. The removal tool helped remove the old cylinder from the seat with some effort, but removing it from the base was still really tough. might just need to buy a new chair. most of these cylinder options are pretty bad. already on my 2nd amazon gas cylinder in a matter of a couple years. at least the first one lasted me a year or so this one was already showing signs that it wont last after 3-4 months.

Purchased item on July 17, and was happy to install it on my office chair. Everything went well for about 5 weeks until it developped a leak and seat keeps going down (Outside of Amazon return window) . So much for "Tested to 1000 lbs". At the price point I was expecting a half decent cylinder and I didn't even get that. Not worth the extra money. Oh,, but the removal tools inclluded make the work of removing the old one quick & easy.
