Must have for all FoodSaver vacuum system users
Hello FoodSavers, I thought of creating this video for all of those who have several doubts in their mind before purchasing this product (Note: Video doesn't have audio). I know this because I had several doubts in my mind, like; -Which jars are suitable for this sealer and does it really work? Answer: Mason Jars are suitable for this sealer. I am using Ball Mason Jars (Pint size) and they work great with this sealer. -Will it work for moist/wet items including liquids? Answer: Yes it does work for moist and wet items like prepared pasta or any type of sauce. I haven't tried liquids but it should work. -Can I remove it once fixed on the Jar or I have to purchase one per each Jar? Answer: Yes, you can remove the sealer from mason jars once sealed like shown in the video. This is the great thing I liked about this product. Food saver cum money saver. -Which jar to buy and where? And will it cost me more as the FoodSaver bags? Answer: Any mason jar should be good according to the type of mouth. But Ball Mason Jar works for me. They are available on Amazon but I got it from Walmart. I got pint sized wide mouth jars, a pack of 12 for $8.5. -What is Regular mouth and Wide mouth sealers and are jars available in these type of mouths? Answer: Two types of mason jars are available in the market which are compatible with these sealers. Though keep in mind this review is for Wide-mouth jar sealer. So if you have purchased wide mouth jar sealers you will need wide mouth mason jars and for regular mouth jars purchase the regular mouth sealer. -Are jars and lids/bands reusable? Yes, all components are reusable. That's the great thing about Mason jars and this sealer. -How much is a Pint or a Quart? 1 Pint = 16oz = 0.47 liters 1 Quart = 32oz = 2Pint = 0.95 liters -How can I know that the jar is really vacuumed? When you place the lid on the jar and then vacuum it using this sealer, vacuum pressure is generated within the sealer and it sucks all the air out (also from the jar and the area above the lid) and so it tightens the seal firmly over the jar. At this moment if you remove the tube from the sealer you would hear a sound, this is because the air enter the hole immediately as soon as you remove the tube. Try pulling the lid and you may have to apply force to remove it. This indicates the jar has been vacuum sealed. -How to remove the lid once it's sealed tight and frozen? If you have frozen contents in the vacuumed jar sometimes it would be difficult for you to open the lid. There are chances that you may damage the lid. To avoid this either keep the jar in warm water for few minutes or hold the jar under hot water tap for few seconds. Hurray... enjoy your food :). Though be careful while holding the jar under hot water as you don't want yourself to get any burns. This product is a must buy as FoodSaver bags are expensive and cannot hold wet/moist items (like sauce or wet pasta). Hope this helps. Note: I am using it since couple of weeks now, so do not forget to read the user manuals and use your vacuum machine accordingly. I created this video to clear doubts in people's mind so that they can purchase this product willingly. Cheers... Update May 9th 2012 11:59AM EST - I am very pleased with this product. I have stored Pasta, Thai Curries, Asian Curries and also Indian Curries in Mason jars using this sealer. They taste almost the same even after 5 to 6 weeks. Saves hell lot of money but also time which is the important. I never thought I would use my vacuum system the way am using it currently. Even you can prepare soup and store it for several weeks/months. Though keep in mind that most of the product after vacuuming needs refrigeration. So place it according to the items suggested in your vacuum system manual. I wonder how people can give 1 star for such an amazing product. I am loving it.

Foodsaver Jar Sealers (Regular- and Wide-Mouth) and V3230 vacuum Sealer
Foodsaver v3230 and Jar Sealers The main reason I purchased a Foodsaver vacuum sealer was to be able to store my cats’ (my Boys’) dry food to help maintain freshness, since I spend extra money to buy a high quality food that loses its freshness and spoils quickly when not stored properly – and yes, it is dry food. Plus, I wanted to be able to store this food in glass containers. I found the Ball 1/2 gallon canning jars and am able to store the contents of an 18 pound bag of food in 8 of these jars using the Foodsaver wide-mouth jar sealer. It’s great! I wish I had known about all these contraptions before now – would have saved a lot of wasted food/money. I also store human food but started out buying it for my Boys’ food. I am so thankful for the reviews; many of the comments were very helpful! One person wrote that she thought she would have to use one jar sealer for each jar she used. That’s exactly what I thought. That would have been quite expensive and didn’t seem worth it to me – given that the wide mouth jar sealers are approx $10 and for some reason the regular mouth jar sealers I’ve found have been more than that. so, one jar sealer can be used over & over & over again along with the flat part of the lid of the canning jar. After vacuuming the air out and removing the jar sealer, I put on the screw-on band. Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself. When I 1st started using this machine, I was using it wrong and every time I tried to seal a 1/2 gallon jar using the wide mouth jar sealer, the machine would run for 2 minutes – every time. I just thought the 1/2 gallon required more vacuuming due to the amount of air in that size. Nope; it would also run two minutes on the smaller jars. Also, when I would try to take the jar sealer off, I had to be extremely careful so the lid of the canning jar didn’t come off with it - which it did in many cases using the wide mouth jar sealer and which it did every time when I used the regular mouth jar sealer. It was very aggravating. I was ready to return everything. On top of that, when I used the bags, no air was being vacuumed out, but it would seal. I knew something was wrong. That’s when I found the TurboedMX6 YouTube video. If you search the internet for Foodsaver v3230, one of the first links that I found that is listed is a YouTube video by TurboedMX6. This guy did a very nice job and went a long way to helping me use this machine properly. I highly recommend it. He didn’t talk about the jar sealers; he only talked about vacuum-sealing plastic bags, but the video helped me with both. In the video, when he turned the locking handle, it made a definitive sound, and I remembered that mine didn’t make that sound, because I didn’t turn it all the way; it kinda snaps into place. It’s amazing how everything finally worked after that. Air gets sucked out of the plastic bags now, and the jar sealer is absolutely fantastic. It vacuums the jars for 10-15 seconds. When it’s done making a lot of noise vacuuming, the “seal” light comes on, so I press cancel, because I’m not using the heat portion of the sealing process which is used to seal the plastic bags. I take the hose connection out of the jar sealer, and it makes a brief whoosh sound releasing any leftover air from the hose (something I also learned in another review). I never got any whooshing sounds before when the machine would run for 2 minutes. Now I can take the jar sealer off the jar without being hesitant or extra careful. that lid is on there so tight, it’s sometimes difficult to break the seal to open it again. That’s okay. I’d rather have that than to have to be extra gentle with it so I didn’t break the seal. I have bought several cases of many different sizes of the canning jars, and I have purchased extra food for my Boys to keep on hand. I also store food to take to work. I’m so happy with this investment of all these foodsaving products!

This works!
I have had this sealer and food saver for over 15 years. I have sealed so many jars and so many products with it. It’s very easy to use and seals every time. I wanted to try one of the small suction ones for travel. Unfortunately, I will just have to do with zip bags because this is too big a unit to travel with. The little ones don’t work at all don’t bother. This works really great.

The solution to all my kitchen problems!
My household is just me and my fussy little boy, so I have big problems with cooking and portion sizes. I don't like to prepare small amounts from scratch for each meal, or eat the same thing over and over again for 3 days. I also had a lot of difficulty in buying cheaper, bulk foods. I bought the Foodsaver handheld vacuum to be able to buy and store coffee in bulk, but soon realized that it could help with my wider food storage issues. I wasn't very impressed with the bags - they worked well once I got the hang of them (jiggling the nozzle around to get the seal), but they are very limited in terms of what you can store. Ditto the included plastic box, which is very shallow and holds little. But (many, many) thanks to a fellow reviewer of the handheld vacuum, I discovered the joys of the compatible this jar sealer. I started with a set of wide-mouth half-gallon mason jars and found that I could store just anything in them, including salad, fresh veggies and meats, stews, you name it. So I went out and bought tons more smaller mason jars. It's a particular boon for salad as I almost NEVER got through a box without it going slimy. Of course, after a few days it's not at a perfect level of freshness, but it's still absolutely great. I also love the fact that we are talking glass rather than plastic, which apart from the BPA issue is so much healthier for the environment. Plus the jars are stackable and occupy little space in your fridge, making everything much tidier. The only downside is that it can be a little painstaking getting some items (eg salad) through the neck of the jar, but it is completely worth it. Others have also mentioned that you don't know when the vacuuming process is complete, but I don't really agree - the sound of the motor gets lower and lower (if it doesn't you know you didn't position the nozzle correctly), and when you take it off you have to pull a little to release the seal. The vacuum and jar sealer have completely revolutionized my kitchen and allowed me to buy bulk foods at better prices. I'm eternally grateful to the other reviewer for pointing it out! ps. Anyone want a bunch of mason jar rings? I don't know what to do with them because you just don't need them with the powerful seal you get using this!

Works, but check jar size first!
This is a very useful accessory that lets you use your vacuum sealer on an ordinary, reusable mason jar. To use, unscrew the top from the mason jar but leave the disc lid in place then push this adapter over over the lid. When you apply vacuum through the center port on the adapter it sucks out all the air past the lid on the jar, and when you remove the vacuum the lid snaps against the jar, holding in the vacuum inside it. You then pull the adapter off and the lid (minus the screw cap - which is redundant) stays firmly in place. All in all this is an extremely clever device, but one that might not be intuitive to understand how it might work in the first place (hence why I wanted to post a review about it). I used a handheld "FoodSaver" vacuum pump (~$20 from here) with good results but I was unable to get a good vacuum with a Ziplock manual vacuum pump, probably because there is raised printing around the vacuum port on the adapter that prevents a good seal. Also note that this adapter only works with jars that use 3.42" diameter lids (a little bigger than 3 3/8"). "Regular Mouth" jars are too small. BTW - I use this to store hops for brewing beer, along with the FoodSaver rechargeable vacuum pump. Total outlay, including mason jars, came out to around $45. Given that hops are about 50% more expensive when purchased by the ounce than by the pound, I expect this to pay for itself in short order.

Works perfectly, prevents food waste
This jar sealer is a must-have if you own a food saver machine with a hose attachment. I have so many mason jars, and I always used to just put food in there and screw the lid on the traditional way. Once I realized they made an attachment to vacuum-seal the jars, I had to get it. Certain foods just aren't a good idea to seal in the regular food saver bags if they are fragile, juicy, or squishy. Mason jars are the perfect solution for that. The cost of this jar sealer is cheaper than buying more bags, so in the long run you are saving money because you will use way less bags if you start sealing more stuff in jars. This jar sealer works perfectly. Just attach the hose to the top, pop the sealer on top of your jar and press the button. It's kind of a tight fit and you have to use some muscle to put it on and off, but that's ok. The sealer is made of a heavy-duty white plastic with a blue rubber rim on the inside. It appears to be of high quality, not the kind of plastic that will crack or break if dropped. Before I used this, I wasn't too sure if it would actually give the jars a legitimate seal, but it really does. It seals them so tightly, I always have trouble getting the lid back off when I wanna access the food again. When I do get it off, I hear a nice "pop" of the seal breaking, so I know it worked. There's not much else to say about this jar sealer. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and it does it well! No issues using it with my 4900 series food saver machine.

FoodSaver Jar Sealers Are Wonderful!
Jar Sealers are a great investment! I love the FoodSaver mason jar sealers, and I give them an unreserved 5 stars. I have switched to using mason jars to vacuum seal all kinds of dry goods; coffee, flours, spices, grains, nuts etc. I have both the wide and regular mouth jar sealers, and both of them work great! Using a mason jar instead of the plastic bags for dry goods and refrigerated wet ingredient storage is easier on your wallet and better for the environment. Of course for frozen foods, cheeses, and moist refrigerated items, I still prefer the bags; but for anything else, vacuum sealed mason jars are the way to go. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has a FoodSaver vacuum sealer. PROs: Allows users to vacuum seal and store items in wide range of reusable mason jar sizes and shapes. Removes air and leaves an air tight vacuum seal. CONS: Small mouth jar sealer rubber gasket comes loose after every use and must be reinserted into plastic sealing cup. NOTES: Mason jar lid gaskets and jar rims must be kept clean and dry to ensure a proper seal. Any liquid, oil, or other debris either on the lid gasket or jar rim can mean you will not be able to achieve and air tight seal. The gasket on the inside of the plastic sealer cup needs to be inserted into the plastic cup with the open or trench side facing downwards, that would be facing the floor when the sealing cup is placed on the jar. For a proper seal ensure the bottle has at least one inch of space between the lid and the item you are trying to seal. Ensure the lid gasket and jar lip are clean, dry, and free of debris. Next place the lid on the jar. Seat the sealing cup firmly on top of the jar and lid. Attach the FoodSaver accessory hose, and depress the Accessory button on your FoodSaver. If you fail to get a good seal, ensure the jar rim and seal or clean, or try a new lid as the rubber gasket can become dry and cracked with age.

Works beautifully
I bought this jar sealer attachment about 1 year ago. It worked so well and cost so little that I bought several more and started giving them to friends who had vacuum sealers. Im a single guy at age 31 who works 50hrs per week so I would often have fruit and veggies beginning to rot before I had a chance to eat everything. Now, after grocery shopping I rinse and place ALL veggies and fruit in sealed mason jars before placing in the fridge. I am now able to have fresh fruit for weeks without needing to pick out the odd blueberry growing mold or the mushy strawberry. The amount of wasted food has gone done SIGNIFICANTLY. Once I developed a routine of sealing jars each time I used one, I began putting all kinds of stuff in jars just because the act of sealing them became simple and quick. Now I seal stuff like herbs (mint, thyme), tomatoes. I put entire bunches of salad greens in large jars and leftover food in smaller jars. Im beginning to envision my entire fridge subdivided with different sized jars of fresh produce. Pro tips: 1.) This setup only works if you keep your vacuum sealer on the counter top with the lid sealing attachment ready to go. Once a jar is opened to get food out, it only takes a few seconds to reseal and place back in the fridge. If the vacuum sealer is in the cupboard you'll be less likely to use it on a daily basis. 2.) Its important to tighten your jar rings tight. I had a few suction failures at first but then realized I wasnt tightening the rings enough. Now I have ZERO failures. Summary: You should definitely buy this product. At the low cost of $10 USD, its a no brainer. If you actually train yourself to seal jars EVERY time you use one, you'll save a lot of money and wont have to grocery shop as often. UPDATE: After 2 full years of daily use my sealer still works great. Some foods begin to ferment in the jars and will cause postitive air pressure to occur and you'll loose your seal. However, this doesnt seem to matter because once the food begins fermenting it is now resistant to foreign bacteria and wont spoil. When I see a jar lid bulging from pressure I simply unscrew the ring to release the pressure and go on about my business. I dont bother resealing until I get food out later. Some foods that seem to ferment 100% of the time.. . Black berries: Yup Raspberries: Yup Blueberries: Yes but not much. They produce almost no c02 gas. However, after about 2 months you can taste a little carbonation from the fermentation process. Garlic cloves: Yup Tomatoes: Yup Oranges: Nah Salad greens: Nope Apples: Nope Wild plumbs: Yes and FAST! Peaches: Yessir! I hope this info helps people know what to expect.

Love it. Keeps the seal... 3 years use
This is really easy for vacuum sealing your mason jars. Had it for a few years and the seal is still strong unless you didn't vac it long enough. Charge lasts, good seal and works to keep dry food longer. My basil still seems fresh and tasty after over 2 years instead of one and tomatoes last 2 years easy.

Einfach genial.
Ich finde das Konzept mit den dazugehörigen Ball Mason Gläsern einfach genial. Ich verstehe nicht wieso Foodsaver dieses Teil nicht auch zusammen mit Ball Mason für die Gläser in Europa vertreibt.
