A must have for every practitioner and counselor-in-training
This is one of those books I wish I had during my graduate years. As counselors and therapists we are taught the importance of good note keeping - not just for the purpose of documenting our therapeutic goals and interventions, but also for legal and insurance reasons. Unfortunately, no one ever teaches us how to take notes (better yet, GOOD notes). This book does just that! STEPnotes offers a clear, concise and systematic approach to taking progress/counseling notes. While the case study may be a little different than the types of issues I often deal with in a typical counseling session (I specialize in adult career development and transition), it helped me conceptualize the process and adapt/apply it in a way that fit. This book is a must have for every practitioner or counselor-in-training.

I use it and I bought it for my staff!
As a psychotherapist, counseling supervisor, and professor this book has been invaluable to simply get the work done. I have not met anyone in the field of mental health who actually enjoys doing notes and charts, but in this book Dr. Sutton helps to get it done practically and simply. It is a must-have for new (and experienced!) professionals. I highly recommend the book!

A good place to start for anyone taking session notes.
A straightforward, simple, and yet inclusive system for taking session notes. I've recommended it to all my interns. There are so many systems and formats out there for taking notes. I really like this one.
