Helpers in Your Neighborhood (National Geographic Kids Readers, Pre-Reader)

Great book for young children kindergarten through first grade.

My PreK students enjoyed this book. It shows community helpers not only in the USA, but around the world as well. I like how it shows more than just police officers and firefighters. The vocabulary was easy to understand and the book kept the kids engaged.

I created a little “home school” lesson plan for my preschooler and her friend. This book is a pre-reader that introduces “community helpers.” The only oddity I found is that they introduce the neighborhood pizza server as community helper along with the mail carrier. To my knowledge there are 3 main community helpers fire, medic and police the book does touch upon each. National Geographic also utilized individuals of different gender and race to depict diversity in the community so thumbs up for that.

My daughter is 5 years old and she can read and understand. I purchased for her project.

I was not sure what to expect with the natuonal geographic books but now im sold. I love this book. Great pictures great for first time readers. I am buying all the pre readers set now

Good simple book with good imaging for my grandson.
