I received a copy of this as a gift some time ago and would not have thought to watch it otherwise. I'm glad I did, however, because it turned out to be a really good film. I later had to get the Blu-Ray because I always like to get the best version of a movie when I can. The story is pretty good. Denzel Washington stars as a police detective who helped put a serial killer in the gas chamber only to discover that the real perpetrator was a Fallen Angel known as Azazel who was inhabiting the killer's body. It then becomes more of a supernatural thriller as Denzel's character is basically stalked and toyed with by a being who can literally be anywhere and anybody as he can jump from body to body with merely a touch. Washington really does give a good performance as always and he really does well as a detective who is thrown into a very unusual situation and has to figure a way to get out of it. John Goodman, Embeth Davidtz and Donald Sutherland also have supporting roles in this picture and give fine performances as well. There is a good twist ending, but I'll leave that to you to watch the movie and find out what it is. Blu-Ray release is good. Really good picture and sound. The special features are a little bare-boned, however, as there's just a trailer and the usual scene-selection and language features. Overall, a really good movie for fans of Denzel Washington, mysteries and supernatural thrillers.

First may I say that this is an excellent movie on Spiritual forces that motivate people to do evil. The script involves a Philadelphia Homicide Detective who accidentally stumbles on the reality of the Devil. Detective "Hobbes", which if you do some checking, the double "b" was the ancient name for the Devil in England. A tribute to " Quatermass and the Pit", a British horror movie on Evil and Martian inheritance,is played very well by Denzel Washington and John Goodman as his partner serves a great supporting role. As explained by others, spirits move by either contact or death of a host. Once known, they hound the discoverer to his/her death, ala' "Mary Rose". By control of people, places and events they can lead you to do what you don't wish to do and force everything against you. When we encounter "possessed" people, we see what they see. A slightly off color spectrum, not quite as good as the human eye. This was similar (along with the background music) to "Wolfen" with Albert Finney, and the quick movement is obviously drawn from that film. As to sight gags, there is one scene where Hobbes feels that he is being followed. He sees a shadow climbing the train station (looks like North Philadelphia Station). When he gets to the top, The " presence" is felt but Hobbes can't see him. However, if you look closely at the station sign, you will see the word "Willoughby" very clearly. This of course was the mythical station of Gart Williams, who jumped off the train in a famous "Twilight Zone" episode to escape the stress of his corporate job where he sees a peaceful community set in the 1800s and walks off with the old conductor in that time, but is in fact the name of a funeral parlor in the modern world as his actions are chalked up to suicide where he is said to have jumped from the train shouting "Willoughby" Little things like these keep showing up during the film. Strange artwork inside buildings, all related to the Devil or Angels and The "witching hour" phone calls at 3AM. The humans involved who know living like mendicant monks, afraid to get involved with others because of the fear of peril for the innocent. Also the Rolling Stones music "Time is on my side" and "Sympathy for the Devil", all very appropriate in their roles for this work. Very close to the spiritual truth, save for the mortality of evil and certain mumbo jumbo. Philadelphia locations are excellent. Geno's versus Pat's steaks continue their war in this work and there is a lot of Septa Rail line filming, sections of Manayunk, City hall courtyard and the old Holmesburg Prison. All nicely disguised and done well. Very entertaining and well acted.

Still a great movie to watch

I'm a Denzel fan, and while this movie slipped under the publicity radar, it's on par with his better known movies. Donald Sutherland, John Goodman, James Gandolfini - all play strong supporting roles in this unusual suspense thriller. It has the plot twists of The Bone Collector, but with a more supernatural theme. If you're looking for flashy special effects, you're going to be disappointed. This movie moves on a solid cast, a good script, for a viewer that can appreciate both. It moves quickly through the story, so you need to be paying attention right from the beginning. Well worth the price of the DVD and the time it takes to watch it. You'll probably recommend it to your friends (because they never heard of it either).

" Ich hoffe, euch gefällt die Show, Jungs....". Yeah,- auf den, der dies sagt, wartet just in dem Moment nämlich die Gaskammer. Und schon steigen die rauchförmigen Gase auf, nebeln die Szenerie ein. Des Hinzurichtenden letzte Zuckungen, Speichel trieft zäh aus seinem zur Seite geneigten Mundwinkel......gruselig. " Irgendwas passiert immer. Aber wenn`s passiert, können die Menschen es oft nicht sehen........, oder verstehen....., oder akzeptieren..........". DÄMON- einer der jüngsten Filme mit Denzel Washington. Jawohl, ich grase die Palette seiner Filme wohlmerklich ab- weil mich dieser Schauspieler fasziniert. Und er ist nicht erst seit dem " Equalizer " ein Garant für Spitzenfime. " Johnny, sag mal,...hast du nie Angst? " - " Diesmal schon. " DÄMON- ein wieder mal atmosphärisch dichter und sehr viel ausstrahlender Thriller mit Horroranteilen und genialer Besetzung. Die Grundstimmung des Films fesselt mich sofort, packt mich. " Sie pirschen sich an die heran, die Jagd auf sie machen- deshalb verbirg deine guten Werke. " Meist aus der Sicht des DÄMON`s, beeindruckende Regie und Kamerafahrten. ********************************************** Geschichte: Es ist ansteckender als das Ebola- Virus. Eine Berührung- schon hat der Dämon seinen nächsten Wirt. Kann der aufrechte und resistente Cop Hobbs verhindern, dass unser Planet in die Hände des Antichristen fällt? **************************************************************** Fazit, meins: " Einmal in dir, erkennen sie dich und erinnern sich. Deshalb sprechen sie alle Zungen von Babel.......". Und obwohl sich DÄMON mit dem Übernatürlichen befasst, bildet er die optimale Grundlage für einen Ermittlungsfilm. Oder sprich Mysterie- Krimi. Der Regisseur schafft es wunderbar, eine Spannung aus der Grenze zwischen Ahnung und Wissen zu bilden. Trotz aller Regeln des Horrorfilms bleibt DÄMON aber auf dem Boden, kommt ganz ohne Effekthascherei aus. Und setzt auf subtile Spielweise. Die allgegenwärtige Bedrohung des Bösen in Gestalt des Menschen- die menschliche Seele wird hier nicht verherrlicht, sondern man schreibt ihr zerstörerische Eigenschaften zu. DÄMON- trau` keiner Seele eben. Allen voran ein typisch gut aufgelegter Denzel, ein solider Donald, ein klasse John und ein toll spielender James. Wer kennt sie nicht? :-)) Ja, ein sehr guter Cast. DÄMON- weniger visionär wie z. B. " Sieben " , doch Denzel`s Katz- und Maus- Spiel mit dem personifizierten Bösen verfügt über ausreichend Einfälle und abgründige Wendungen, um mit Fincher`s Thriller mithalten zu können. " Nimm dich in Acht vor meinem Zorn..................". Lauflänge: 118.55 Minuten ( mit Abspann ) ! Extras leider keine, doch die meinige Disc ist beidseitig abspielbar: 16:9 + 4:3 Format!

good thriller.

ロードショー以来、久しぶりに観た。悪魔や悪霊を題材とした米映画は、よく観るが、デンゼル・ワシントンが主演しており、面白かった。取り憑かれた人が豹変するのでもないところがいい。

Super Film mit Top Darstellern. Gibt es leider heutzutage nicht mehr solche Filme. Kann ich nur empfehlen.
