This Is Indeed The Worlds Finest Trimmer
Since a 300 Blackout is on my "bucket list", I decided to make some brass in advance of purchasing the upper assembly. My goal was 1,000 pieces. After cutting off and resizing 350 pieces of .223 brass to 300 BLK, I began the job of trimming the brass to my desired length of 1.362 inches using my RCBS case manual case trimmer. The case lengths were not consistent with some varying by as much as 0.04 inches. While I was initially able to average 3 - 4 pieces a minute, after about 80 cases I was ready to give up. There was no way I could crank the trimmer for 1,000 cases. While researching the internet for ways to speed up the process I came across the original "Worlds Finest Trimmer" (WFT). My initial thought was at $76 (product & shipping) "that thing is very expensive" especially if I wanted one for .223 and 300BLK. Further research identified the WTF-2 with removable chambers for different calibers. The WTF-2 was $76 with chambers costing $30 (product & shipping). I purchased the WFT-2 and two chambers (.223 & 300 BLK) since it was $16 less than two original WFTs; savings will be greater if I add additional chambers. BE SURE you have a drill that will accommodate a one-half inch shaft.Amazon PRIME had the product to me within two days. I LOVE AMAZON!Inserting the 300 BLK chamber into the WFT-2 was simple - just be sure to keep the chamber straight as it is inserted. If it binds you can tap it out with provided wooden dowel and try again. Setting the trim length is easy. I placed the 1.362 inch master case into the WFT-2, set it on a hard surface, inserted the cut blade until it rested on the case mouth, and tightened the two set screws. Now to cut some brass. The WFT-2 creates quite a bit of brass shavings as it trims so you may want to do the cutting outside. I also recommend wearing safety glasses as brass shavings are ejected from the trimmer when cutting. To verify the trim length was correct, I cut two cases and checked them for length. They were spot-on. For the next 20 cases I cut 10, checked 5, cut 10 more and checked 5. Again they were spot-on. For the next 40 I cut 20 and checked 5. For the first 60 cases the trim length never went below 1.362. There were as few that measured 1.363. Since 1.362 - 1.363 inches was acceptable to me I began trimming the remaining 210 cases.Note: Once the case is trimmed to length, give it a quarter turn to square and deburr the case. The trimmed cases may still needed some light deburring.Depending upon the cut length of the .223 case being converted to 300 BLK, the trimming process can create a bit of brass shavings. While waiting for my cut jig to arrive, I cut the initial 350 cases using a homemade jig. Cut case lengths varied from 1.363 to 1.375 inches. Getting the cut case length as close as possible to the trim length results in less brass shavings. I found I had to stop and empty the shavings from the WFT-2 about every 20 - 25 cases for the longer cases. Less frequently when I trimmed those cut closer to the trim length. How fast can cases be trimmed using the WFT-2?As fast as you can insert and remove the case. I was able to trim about 10 cases a minute. Considering the time it takes to periodically empty the brass shavings, I feel trimming 500 cases an hour is achievable. If the WFT-2 worth the price?Yes if you value your time and muscles. I personally do not want to experience the muscle fatigue resulting from hours of manually trimming thousands of cases. This is a well made product that trims cases quickly and accurately. If you intend to reload hundreds to thousands of cases and do not want to endure the chose of manually trimming cases, this is the way to go.
