Can you use these to trim a fringe?

Yes I think you could by combing part way through the length of the fringe hair and trimming the excess hair off against the comb.

Has anyone used the thinning scissors to cut thick hair? Are they sharp enough to go through a half inch segment of hair or do they require thin segs?

I used half inch segments of hair and it was ok
