I am only getting buzzing noise? using digital audio out to rca inputs on an older receiver.

I might have an answer. The output device has to put out PCM (two channel). If you are putting out Dolby or some other form of digital output, I think that it loses it and creates the hum. I tried connecting an old TV to an old receiver and got the same problem. When I checked the TV manual, it says that if you get multichannel data from a blueray or even ATSC from broadcast or a cable box, the TV passes multichannel digital to the optical output. This converter might not be able to process it correctly. Some TVs have an option to output a different digital format; mine didn't. Or maybe it is just broken

I've tried hooking it up to 2 game consoles and a tv and changed audio settings on all 3 and have not been able to get any sound not even buzzing?

Same here, never worked. I just went and bought a new receiver that has HDMI,, problem solved
