Isadora Moon Makes Winter Magic: Volume 8

Subtle message wrapped in lovely story telling
We love the Isadora Moon books in our house. My daughter (7YO) has only recently got into a good habit of reading and these larger print chapter books with scattered illustrations are meaty enough to help her grow whilst being easy enough to self guide through the story. She is picking up lots of new vocabulary which is great, however I’d love to sit her down with Harriet Muncaster as the number of times we hear “but that’s not a word!” when she comes across something she doesn’t understand is hilarious. She won’t ever trust that the author might know words a little better.Isadora Moon manages something exceptional by combining great story telling, aligning with relevant real world problems for kids, and helping to understand that different is a great thing. And all this is done in an exciting, engaging and funny way.Lovely books and can’t wait for the next one.

Great for independent reading
My 8 year old daughter found this book an enjoyable and easy read - I’d recommend it for year 2 (age 6 and 7) onwards. There are useful life lessons in the story - Isadora is not invited to a party, for pragmatic (expense) reasons and overcomes her sadness, not letting it mar her friendship. She also learns not to borrow things without asking and accepts that she can’t always get her own way.The useful messages are placed within the story with a very light touch - to any child it’s overwhelmingly entertaining not educational!Highly recommend.

Isadora Moon Series of Books
I bought the series of Isadora Books for my Granddaughter recently and she is enjoying reading them each night as the words and Chapters are simple which means she can read them herself which gives her confidence in her reading and she enjoys the story lines. Would definitely recommend these books.

Isadora Moon
The Isadora Moon series is a delight to read. The books are really stylish, with pink, black and white illustrations in each. This title is all about the beauty of winter and is just gorgeous.

"Half vampire, half fairy, totally unique."
Isadora Moon is "half vampire, half fairy, totally unique." This is the first book in the series I have read but there are many others. No prior knowledge of the others is required.First thing to say is that this book creates a great first impression. It is hardcover with a cute black and pink picture, which includes glitter elements, on the front. The "enchanting pink and black pictures" continue throughout making it a similarly attractive experience if you flick through the pages. The look is topped off by the pages having a shiny silver edge to them. The book really is presented very well and you can see just by looking at it that it is aimed at young girls. At the beginning of the story Isadora's friend Oliver has an ice-skating birthday party coming up but Isadora is not invited. "I'm sorry. I was only allowed to invite three friends. Ice-skating is expensive!" Isadora is so disappointed. "He's going ice-skating! I've never been ice-skating before." Isadora's mum sees her disappointment so invites her sister, Aunt Crystal, who is a snow fairy, to visit. She comes round and uses magic to make the garden into a winter wonderland with an ice rink as well as some magic snow. Isadora loves the ice-skating. She also makes a snow boy, but because it is made from magic snow the snow boy comes alive. They become friends and have an adventure. "I would treasure the memory of our adventure to the Land of Ice and Snow forever!"After the story there is an extra section themed with winter-y recipes, guides to making a snow globe and snow flake window stickers, instructions for a game, and some writing tips so that fans can write some stories of their own which they can share with the author/illustrator. It's always good to encourage readers' imaginations.Perhaps the opening line - "It was a cold and frosty Monday morning" - is a bit cliched and the story line might have elements similar to "The Snowman" but girls should love this book.
