How long will they stay alive? I am shippping to Africa and it will take 5 days before itgets received there.

It will stay alive for 5 days but will take a long time to "bounce back" and will smell really bad. However, you said that you are shipping "To" Africa, which sounds like it will have to first go to Customs. Customs can take up to 3 months and it would be very dead by then.
