Device is NOT secure in this collar
Short version: the new whistle branded collar, with a seemingly robust aluminum attachment point, DOES NOT HOLD THE WHISTLE SECURE and your device will come out on it's own, quite easily, as mine did this morning. We have had the new whistle go explore and matching collar for A WEEK and the device fell out of the aluminum attachment point while my dog was outside, by himself, playing in the backyard. I just purchased the Whistle Go-Explore and a new Whistle brand collar because I thought it would be the most secure way to hold this new Whistle (I have had the older whistle for 2 years and lost one device due to the attachment mechanism failing, and had to have several other attachment pieces replaced because the plastic and rubber collar attachments failed after just a couple months. I'm really disappointed that this well known weak link for the whistle system hasnt been properly addressed, even by expensive branded upgraded collars. It makes an otherwise pretty satisfying product almost useless if I'm constantly worried that the device is going to fall out at any time. I even remove the collar when he is at the dog park, but if the device isnt secure enough even while he is just out in the backyard, it really becomes a useless product. Frustrating because we have been such big supporters of the product, even with the attachment issues in our older version, but it seems that Whistle simply hasnt placed any emphasis on quality control of their products.

Heavy metal
After reading countless reviews on dog tracking collars, I narrowed my decision down to the Fi and the Whistle Go Explore. Both seemed relatively comparable in functions and performance, and like many products, both had mostly positives and a handful of starkly negatives. So it came down to physical appearance: I liked that the Fi seemed sleeker and lower profile than the Whistle. So I bought the Fi.But this review is about the collars themselves, not the actual tracking device. When I got the Fi, I was shocked at how heavy it was. My 37-lb beagle is by no means a small dog, but compared to his previous collar, he would wonder what the hell I was subjecting him to with this weighty, clunky device shackled around his neck. So I changed my mind and ordered a Whistle Go Explore, thinking if I also ordered Whistle's matching collar, it might streamline the whole setup. And there was no way it could be as heavy as the Fi, right?Wrong -- it's HEAVIER! The Fi weighs in 123 g, or just over a quarter-pound. The Whistle collar, with the tracker, tips the scales at a hefty 162 g (5.7 ounces)! I don't understand why they designed these things to be like prison shackles. Why can't they use plastic buckles, like most normal dog collars? My dog's nylon collar with plastic buckle is plenty secure. (In fact, it's sometimes a pain to unbuckle it.)In the end, I returned this collar. I kept the Whistle and clipped it onto my dog's normal, reasonable-weight collar. The Whistle itself is only 27 g, so he can deal with that. Unfortunately it looks like he has a tumor growing on his back.If you've got a big, burly dog, this might not be a big deal. But any dog smaller than say 50 lbs, and he or she might not be too pleased.

Beware of Faulty Design
The media could not be loaded. I just recently purchased the Whistle Go Explore. I had lost my Whistle 3. I decided to buy the collar to go with my new Whistle. I had read other reviews saying that they had the collar and they lost their whistle. Others said it worked fine. I decided to see for myself. When I received the collar the first thing I noticed that the attachment was made of metal. It felt sturdy. I tried on the Whistle Go Explore and it clicked in nicely. It felt loose in the holder. It could jiggle around. I thought that this was why people lost their Whistle. But I put it back into the holder it came with which was made of plastic. It had the same looseness but I never felt it would fall out of the plastic holder.I noticed the metal holder was different. The button to release the whistle was hard to get to so it didn't seem like it could be pressed accidentally. What I found was that the back side was entirely open to the release mechanism. Unlike the plastic holder where the back was covered, the metal holder was open and you could access the release mechanism. So any movement or maybe grab or the collar could accidentally release your Whistle. The problem isn't losing a $100 Whistle, it's not being able to track your dog. In my case my dog is off leash in the forest. He follows me but one time was distracted and we got separated. It was only for a moment, but having a tracker gives me peace of mind if I can't find him. So if there is an increased possibility of the Whistle falling off it's not worth it. Plus the holders that come with the Whistle seem to be more solid and can be put on any collar you buy.Update: I uploaded the video showing how the entire backside is open exposing the release mechanism. You can accidentally move this and loose your Whistle.

No reliable
I bought this collar to hold our Whistle GO explore device. Within the first week the tracker had detached from the collar. We decided to give the collar and tracker another chance. A little over a week later the tracker detached again. Both times the tracker detached while our very skiddish pitbull was running through some trees. It did not take much for the device to detach. We got the tracker and collar because our rescue has a history of running away and being gone for days at a time. We will not be giving Whistle another chance. Also, the collar is advertised for being very reflective. It is hardly reflective, definitely not worth it when the life and safety of your pet is at risk.

Locking mechanism failed after 3 months
The metal locking mechanism relies on a spring to keep the latch firmly locked and prevents the tag from rotating and releasing. This spring weakened and failed after 3 months and the expensive geotag simply fell off in a forest. We were lucky that someone found it and we got it back but we can’t rely on using the built-in latch. We can use the Velcro connector supplied with the tag but doing so makes buying the purpose built collar pointless. I recommend not buying this collar until they redesign the locking system.

Excellent!
