GoldenrodDutton-Lainson DL600A 600 lb Plated Pulling Winch

This small (600 lb.) winch is/was the standard-issue winch on most 14-18 foot Shoreland'r brand boat trailers, and I had really hoped to install an upgraded or higher capacity winch of any make or model including Fulton brand, but because of the pre-drilled (factory) mounting holes on the tongue of the trailer, no other make of winch or model of Dutton-Lainson winch would fit my particular trailer properly. A real buzz-kill. So, anyone considering a replacement winch, regardless of make or model, should be aware of this limitation before ordering. Everyone should also be aware of the fact that NONE of these winches ships with the required strap included. The strap must be ordered separately, and I learned the hard way that not all straps are compatible. Perhaps even more frustrating, when I finally ordered the proper Dutton-Lainson (2-inch, 20-foot) replacement strap for this 600 lb. winch, it arrived with the wrong sized bolt for attaching the strap to the spool of the winch. The bolt that shipped with the strap was a 3" x 5/16" diameter bolt, which was far too thick to fit through the 1/4" diameter holes on the sides of the winch spool. Consequently, I had to visit my local hardware store for the proper 3" x 1/4" bolt and lock nut, which was an unnecessary and frustrating inconvenience. So shame on the packagers at Dutton-Lainson for that!

After 11 months and in and out of the water maybe 12 times the gears have stripped. I am missing 4 teeth total. This was an exact replica of the original equipment on my 2017 16ft tracker. The first one lasted about as many uses. I am not winching the boat on to the trailer just snugging it down. Spend the extra couple dollars and save yourself the hassle at the ramp.

This is advertised as a 20' strap,which it is. Once I started reeling it in I realized it was too much line. It started rubbing on a mounting bolt. It was claer that a 20' strap was just too much. I ordered 12' strap and got what I was looking for.

Only used once. So I don't know how it will last in the long run.

Perfect replacement for original trailer winch. Recommended strap with order was not the correct length to work with this winch. 12 foot strap is the correct length not the 20 foot strap. Other than return and replacing strap, winch works perfect.

The first one I got was broken. Metal shavings made the pin not able to move as it should. My replacement had metal shavings on it also, not nearly as bad, but seems like this would be caught by the manufacturer during quality inspection. Both winches I got required modifications by my me. The winch now works fine. I hope they are able to correct this issue of metal shavings on the product.
