The Signature Diva

The Signature Diva is a joy to watch, mainly because there aren't that many concerts that show Chaka in her prime. This video obviously highlighted Chaka promoting her "What Cha Gonna Do For Me" project and the songs on the video are all on the album. Having said that, there is also a version of that same concert on You Tube which shows Chaka performing songs that are not on this video. So that was a bit of a let down. Also, because it was originally recorded on videotape, a lot of the sound quality was missing as well. Other than that, enjoyed it very much.

She is DIVA!

This was a very good dvd. I may be bias because the concert featured music from one of my favorite solo albums of Chaka's...What Cha Gonna Do For Me. Anyhoo, she looks and sounds great. She has heavyweight musicians backing her and her brother and Lee Maiden (Tony's wife) singing background vocals all adds up to a great performance. The additonal features dvds afford us the comsumer was cool. I really liked the biography and pictures of Chaka's early days. An avid Chaka fan, must own this dvd.

This was at a time when Chaka Khan had begun to have throat problems. Having seen Chaka perform many times, with and without Rufus and I have never heard her this strained for notes where it would normally seem effortless. Of all the footage that could have been shown to portray the signature diva there sure didn't seem to be much thought put into the footage that would represent her true artistry. Compare her 20th century women DVD or even the BET live footage and you can see a dramatic difference. Although, it's not terrible, the whole concert is short and just not felt. I've waited for some time to hear/see her older hits, minus all jazz, being put to DVD, but I was greatly disappointed because many a time I've seen and heard better.

being that i am a huge chaka khan fan,i have to say that i enjoyed this dvd. on the other hand, i had to give it 4 stars because it was so short and the back up singers seemed a little off key at times. all in all chaka can do no wrong in my eyes. so if you are a fan, i recommend buying this.

I love this woman's music. What a performance. She puts her all in everything.

I DIDN'T LIKE IT AT ALL.

以前LDで発売されていたLive at ROXYと同じ内容を含む作品です。但し､曲数が少なくなっており、Sweet Thing-Tell Me Something Good,Clouds-Love Has Fallin on Me-Naughty,Dansin' in the Streetが収録されていません。その代わりといっては何ですがMelody Still Lingers On(Night in Tunisia)が収録されており、Brecker Bros.のソロが堪能できます。Breckerファンには嬉しい選曲です。Breckersに加え､アベレージホワイトバンドのHamish Stewart(g)、Steve Ferrone(d)やDavid Williams(g),Anthony Jackson(b),Leon Pendervis(k)などがバックを固めています。Anthony Jackson全く画面に登場しませんが確かに彼の音です。このメンバーにしては内容は平凡なような気もしますが充分に楽しめます。ライブの演奏が３０分程度と短いのが残念ですがこの価格からすれば致し方ないところかも。
