This is a brilliant 2 player game. Most people are probably familiar with Codenames and how it works, this version is for 2 only and is co-op. Each player must take turns to give clues to locate an agent on the grid. Make a mistake, you may hook up with an innocent bystander, or worse, an assassin which ends the game immediately. Always immensely fun trying to link words together as you see the turn 'clock' tick down. There are something like 400 additional words (can be mixed with existing Codenames) and plenty grid squares, no games will be the same. Also they have included a world map with cities that has various difficulty settings; almost like a mini campaign. Games last 15 - 20 mins and once you finish one, you'll want to immediately start another. Sign of a great, fun game.

I love the original Codenames, and Duet is a great variant to allow it to be played with two players. You can also play it with more than two, just by having multiple players on each side, as a co-operative variant to Codenames. The benefit to this is that you don't have the downtime as in the original, because both sides are trying to give clues, so even whilst you are waiting to be receive one, you can be thinking about your own clues. I have Codenames Pictures as well, but don't find that as enjoyable - I think there is a lot more scope for creativity in connecting words rather than pictures. Duet in particular is very well designed. Each player has some information about the board - a number of agents, a number of bystanders, and assassins. There is some overlap - some of the agents are known to both players, but you don't know which ones these are. You take it in turns to give clues - there is also an optional houserule that you don't have to strictly take turns, e.g. if the first player has two clues ready in a row and the second doesn't, they can do that. Aside from this, it's also nice that you get a whole new set of words that you can use with this game or with the original Codenames.

A bit like battleships and takes a bit to get the hang of but good

It's super fun if you love riddles, however it might be a bit hard for younger kids or even some adults too. But I love this gameplay. The quality of the product is very good.

Great fun for 2 people. Bought this for some of the quiet times during the Christmas break and we have found ourselves playing this more and more. My mum, who isn’t a games fan but loves TV shows like countdown, and work puzzles really enjoyed this game! The game really makes you think, describing words giving only one numerical and one word clue. It can be really tricky! It’s also a test for how well you know the person you are playing the game with!

Bought this after playing the original game, to play with my partner as she doesn't enjoy competitive two player games to much, first time we played, we ended up have 6 games back to back, she loved it and we both started to quickly improve and finally won a couple of games. Lots of replayability and no game will be the same because of the random key cards and plenty of word cards, highly recommend for 2 players, if you love word games you'll probably love this.

This game is OK and is nice enough to play for a few rounds, but it's just not that much fun or exciting. Here's why: - No competitive element. It's nice to have a co-operative theme but that saps momentum and, well, fun. - Too hard. Too often it's very difficult to link the words with a single word clue. That means lots of time staring at the cards and thinking, which is slow and not much fun. - All this stuff about spies, assassins and codes doesn't really add much or mean anything. It's a dressed-up and ultimately quite simple guessing word game. A far superior two person game is Jaipur. You should really consider that instead.

We really enjoyed this, we've been missing games nights so I bought this for my and my girlfriend to play - captures the fun of codenames but reconfigured in a smart way to allow 2 players. Very easy to learn if you are already familiar with normal or picture codenames. They should do a codenames pictures duet.

Codenames c'est un jeu normalement pour plusieurs jouers, celui ci c'est pour 2 jouers (ou plus) et en anglais. J'utilise pour mes cours d'anglais et je trouve c'est très très bien pour le vocabulaire. Je recommande.

My husband and I really enjoy playing the original version of Codenames with our friends, so we also bought this version designed to enhance the experience for just two players (or more,) not knowing what to expect. To our delight, Codenames: Duet is even more fun! While the basic theme and method of play are similar to the original game, we like that the way to success is truly cooperative. Whether it’s just the two of us playing or if we’re playing the game with others, the goal of the teams is to identify agents (the good guys) and assassins (the bad guys) so the good guys can prevail. The game is easy to set up and the rules are not complicated, so plays can start quickly. Included is also a way of playing (finding agents in different cities) that extends cooperative play but doesn’t put stress or pressure on any one player like the game Scotland Yard tends to do. Altogether, Codenames: Duet has been designed to provide an experience that encourages discussions of strategy and gameplay that are enjoyable for everyone and it doesn’t take hours to play. We recommend this game for couples, families and groups of people who prefer cooperative play where every player is important and involved rather than cutthroat competitions where people are only in it for themselves and their fellow players are essentially the enemy. With a Codenames: Duet, a relaxing and friendly time can be had by everyone. I pay full price for all of my Amazon purchases and I rarely write 5 star reviews. Codenames: Duet truly deserves 5 stars!
