My daughter is in first grade and loves these books. She is a little more of an advanced reader so she reads these quickly.

Sweet read indeed!
My daughter read this book in an hour and really enjoyed it. It is a nice change from the Dork Diaries or Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. She was thoroughly entertained. Who doesn't like reading about sweets and adventures?

1st grad girls LOVE THESE books. Parents - not so much
My daughter and all her friends LOVE these books right now. She loved it, but told me not to buy her anymore because she could get them at the school and local public library for free - smart girl. I don't like the content in this book. Fairies trying to outsmart goblins. Boring and pointless. Plus, my daughter keeps having nightmares, but won't admit to these books having anything to do with them.

Candy Catastrophe!
My seven year old daughter LOVES these Rainbow Magic books; she owns tons of them (really, we have over 50 of them)! This particular book is the first in the Sugar and Spice Fairies collection; there are seven books in all. The other books in the series are; The Sugar & Spice Fairies #2: Esme the Ice Cream Fairy , The Sugar & Spice Fairies #3: Coco the Cupcake Fairy , The Sugar & Spice Fairies #4: Clara the Chocolate Fairy , The Sugar & Spice Fairies #5: Madeline the Cookie Fairy , The Sugar & Spice Fairies #6: Layla the Cotton Candy Fairy , and The Sugar & Spice Fairies #7: Nina the Birthday Cake Fairy . Aren't all the titles simply delicious?!In this series, the jealous Jack Frost steals the magic charms of each of the sugar and spice fairies, giving dessert everywhere a sour turn. When Jack Frost steals Lisa's lollipop charm, candy everywhere loses its sweetness. Once again Kristy and Rachel two little human girls, come to the fairies' assistance and help Lisa reclaim her magic from Jack's evil clutches. All the Rainbow Magic books are well written; each story is original and fun and is beautifully illustrated. The recommended age level for these books is 7 - 10; Grades 2-5. My daughter is now in Second Grade. We've been reading these books to her since Kindergarten. As a first grader, she was able to read them independently. I must admit, however, that she is an advanced reader and, I am told, currently reads at a 4th Grade level. As a parent I highly recommend these books. They are perfect for any child who loves magic and fairies--my daughter literally reads a book per afternoon in order to fulfill her reading log homework requirement. It's her favorite part of the day! FYI we buy ours through the Scholastic Reading Club.

A fast paced and entertaining book
Kirsty's and Rachel's help were sought by the fairies in Fairyland when Jack Frost stole the magic charms of all the treat fairies to build a treat castle. Without their magic charms, all the treat plants in Fairyland withered and all the treats in the human world lost their appeal and tasted horrible. The children would be entertained again by the goblins action and delighted to learn how Kirsty and Rachel outwitted the goblins to retrieve the lollipop charm.
