How long is the big box? because I’m worried when I hang my clothes up they’ll touch the bottom

Hello, I’m not too sure what you mean by ‘the big box’ but if you go back to the description of the product on Amazon, you’ll find all the dimensions. . Mine is currently dismantled ready to move into my sons flat. The quality is great, very strong. I purchased rectangular plastic containers to use on the right side shelves. Looks great too. Hope this helps.

the hanging rails keep collapsing after five mins, anybody else had this issue? the plastic caps on the end keep detaching. any advice?

Never had this issue with any of my storage units, but you really have to press down on the caps to fix them into place, if that doesn't work/hold weight it could be a faulty batch, the caps should fit tightly on the tubes.

Can you put stuff on top of it?

All the shelves including the top, are very sturdy metal poles covered with a taut thick fabric. So yes, you can place things on top, but with weight and safety in mind. I’ve used mine in the home of an elderly lady and have secured it to the wall for extra security. Hope that helps.

Is there a fabric cover available for this size?

Not that I could ascertain, which I thought was a bit odd as other versions do, but it suited my needs to have a clear view of items stored.
