Good quality. A little overpriced.
It's hard to review a chunk of steel, but I'll give it a shot... It's a hitch ball. It's exactly what it's supposed to be. The only reason(s) for less than 5 stars is - 1. It's a little overpriced. It's pretty easy to find standard hitch balls for several dollars less than this one. I think it gets a premium charge because of the specialized sizing for Equalizer brand weight distribution hitches (WDH). The shaft length needs to be 2 3/8, with a shank diameter of 1 1/4. Try finding one of those in a store. When you need something specialized, you pay a specialized price. 2 - It needs a 'thin-wall' socket to install. Because of the way Equalizer WDH are designed, a 'normal' socket won't fit between the nut and the wall of the hitch body. I guess that's really more of a hitch design issue than the ball, so maybe it's not fair to ding this ball. Either way, I found the socket I needed (Craftsman 1 7/8", 3/4" drive) at Lowe's. It didn't say thin-wall, but it worked perfectly.

Specifically designed for a Equalizer hitch setup.
The manufacturer deliberately designed the hitch setup to NOT accept other balls based on specs set by them. The length of this ball and weight it can carry are not easy to find from other manufacturers. Smart move on the manufacturers part, but a PIA if you don’t know the manufacturer makes this ball for your setup. This ball was not easy to install. Make sure you know someone with a huge torque wrench and large set of sockets if you plan on putting this ball on your Equalizer hitch setup yourself. I had to take the hitch apart to install this ball.

Need Thin Walled Socket!!!
If you are buying this ball to go on the Equal-i-zer 4-point Sway Control Hitch be sure to get a thin walled socket. I was not aware of this fact when I ordered the parts for this hitch and my husband was unable to install the hitch ball due to this fact. We called 10 different places and no one had a 1 7/8" thin walled socket. We had to buy another hitch to get our trailer home.I will be returning this item.

Must have for equalizer hitch system
I bought a used equalizer hitch that had a non equalizer ball mounted in it. The previous owner must have taken a sharp turn which then pinches the bar mount into the threaded portion of the shank of the ball. It deformed the parts and caused some scarring of the friction surfaces. I was able to clean it up, but unfortunately you have to buy the special ball from equalizer to prevent this from happening again. I even tried to cut 1/2" off the standard ball threaded shank and it ruined the saw blades. My recommendation is to spend the extra $10 on the shorter shank equalizer ball.

Shiny new ball.
Great for your Equal-i-zer hitch. Keep in mind you will need a thin wall 1 7/8" socket to tighten this up on your Equal-izer hitch.I used a Powerbuilt 643216 3/4-Inch Drive 12 Point 1-7/8-Inch Socket and it fit ok. Others have said the socket wouldn't fit their hitch and I can see that depending on the cast there might be trouble.

WAY OVERPRICED!!!
There is no way around it. This hunk of steel is way overpriced. You can get a ball of the same or higher weight rating for much less money, and I'm not even talking about "off brand" options. Curt and Reese both offer 12000# balls for much less than the "sprinkled with magic pixy dust" Equal-i-zer. I guess it isn't enough that you spend $600-$700 on the Equal-i-zer hitch, they feel the need to rock you on the Ball as well.

It works with some difficulty
It is very difficult to get a socket on this, I had to use adaptor and a cheater bar to try and torque this. Not one of my mechanic friends owns a 3/4in ratchet torque wrench

A must have for an Equil-iz-er brand anti-sway hitch. ...
A must have for an Equil-iz-er brand anti-sway hitch. the shank is 2-3/8 long. Standard is 2-5/8 long shank. This ball will fit down inside the ball pocket with no interference to the swing brackets. I bought a 1-7/8 socket from Amazon to fit inside the ball socket. 643216 powerbuilt.
