How long does it last and uv effects, does it yellow?

Gravel-Clear contains UV additives that prevent it from yellowing. Longevity depends upon usage. Over time approximately 1% of stones will come loose annually. If the area encounters foot traffic or patio furniture then the rate at which stones become dislodged can increase.

Can i apply this product over a compacted bed of gravel to make a patio bball court?

Accepted Answer

Due to the tremendous impact and stress of the basketball itself and players' shoes (jumping/turning quickly) on the surface of the court, it is not advisable to use Gravel-Lok for this application. A greater percentage of stones would come loose than a normal pedestrian application and this would cause small divots which would often need repair to keep the surface smooth.

i don't need gravel, just the liquid. Where can I buy that.

The liquid comes in one gallon containers, five gallon containers, and fifty gallon drums.

Can I just pour it on my existing pea gravel lines?

Accepted Answer

This is a great question. First, Gravel-Lok should never be "poured" onto stones because if it puddles up, foaming occurs. It can be "sprinkled" on but stones need to be at least 2.5" deep and you have to be very, very careful to not let it drip on adjacent flagstones or stepping stones. This will be nearly impossible if the joints between your larger stones are narrow. Gravel-Lok liquid will stain those larger stones permanently. You can try to clean up drips and spills immediately with acetone and that should work. Do not coat the tops of flagstones or stepping stones with Gravel-Lok liquid because that will make them too slippery. Ideally, mix stones with liquid and place in the joints. We do have some techniques for applying the liquid to existing stones in the joints with a small applicator, such as a plastic condiment bottle with a single spout, but please call us for tips and instructions before trying this!
