Isekai meets dark fantasy
As this book begins, it read like an OP main character in a typical Japanese Isekai anime. Yet that quickly changes. The MC is not overpowered at all in reality, and is actually bullied and insulted by well... everyone. The MC lucks out with some basic training, and cultivation - something like Dakota Krout's divine dungeon cultivation with characters opening their chakra type things, and advancing along bronze, silver, gold, ect cultivation paths. This typical takes decades or centuries if at all, and the MC ends up as a bronze at rank 3 by the end of the 4 books I have read. So it is very slow. The combat is interesting, the world building is excellent, and the story is phenomenal. Think a hated western devil stuck in a world of xenophobic chinese people. Bowing, kowtowing, typical chinese authority social structures - this series seems to have been written by an asian. It seems the MC is a sidekick of a trickster god who is using him as a pawn to foil other god's plans, that being to prevent their attempt to start a war with another massive empire killing billions, so they can oust that empire's gods and take over there too. That is the overarching plot, sorry for the spoiler.

Disappointed.
There's a Major conflict in reasoning offered up as a plot twist that nearly ruins the whole world building fantasy. Slavery.I don't have a problem with bad guys and good guys. However slavery by definition is about as evil and deplorable as it gets. Everything to this point was painting this a golden kingdom, ruled by glorious gods, cultivators that can ruin their development by karma. Karma pretty much screws anyone who stands by allowing evil. A golden kingdom of glory is a contradiction so great to Slavery that anybody who has half a brain will be yanked right out of the wink wink this is a real story mind set. If this were a dirty third world, limited, no gods, no immortals, and glory a rare thing. Covered by childish warring nations, not golden, but silver at best, then maybe some of the more primitive weak nations would condone slavery.Slavery tolerated destroys all positive karma, and would undermine any kind of benevolent rule. Perhaps if the emporer were about to be overthrown as a result of the rotten slavery his rule endorses. Then sure. But definitely not a golden kingdom spanning eternity. Not believable. Weak. Unimaginative. Could have written this much much better.Karma just doesn't work that way. Slavery is kind of rot that always destroys civilization in SHORT order.

Like origami
Starts out 2 D, then with every metaphorical fold, becomes more and more the creature it is destined to become. Lots of action, heroism, and magic. Makes me think of Will Wight's Cradle books, yet different. Excellent!

Wow. Very good cultivation/litrpg
This book took me by surprise. I have been a fan of litrpg for several years now and have more recently been getting into cultivation books as well. This book sounded interesting and had positive reviews so I gave it a shot. And wow. Really pleasantly surprised. Far exceeded my expectations. Great writing. Good character development. Original story. It really seemed to avoid a lot of the common tropes that I have seen lately.I did like that the story made it to a good point to end the book, while obviously preparing for the next book in the series. Yes, there is somewhat of a cliffhanger, but the story reached a satisfying ending point so you are not left at confused in the middle of a story waiting for the next book.

Excellent! Five stars
I liked everything about this book. It was exciting. Non-Stop action. Great characters and World building. Original storyline. I am looking forward to book 8 as soon as it comes out! I liked that there was no swearing! ------------- Warning. I was planning on reading his next series but as soon as I got into it there was swearing and I stopped reading it.

Quite good, just not for everyone.
I've seen multiple reviews complaining about stereotypes and racism in this series, however it is there for a reason. Much the same way there is such blatant racism in "Blazing Saddles", to teach to show the absurdity of it. Also reviews have complained about those in power being corrupt. Yes they are, due to certain plot points that become revealed later in the series. The only real problems I have with series is that the author tends to rehash things they've already told us about and the fact that the story may get a little hard to follow for some readers due to the fact parts of it may or may not be actually happening. These things being said it's a wonderful story filled with both the wondrous and mundane exactly the way all good stories are. The only difference for so many is that this one is laden with so many pseudo Asian themes. It's something we don't see to much due us being more familiar with European themes. So sit back, relax and become lost in a story that may or may not be actually taking place. That's part of the fun.

A difficult plot line.
I found myself confused several times but kept reading. The plot line kept me curious. I liked the MC and his friends, hated the bad guys, and really enjoyed Silver Fox.

I'm really unsure how to feel about this.
On one hand I enjoyed the premise, but the MC comes across very scattered. The events for the first half of the story are so convoluted the MC has no idea what's going on, much less the reader. The stakes while large I found myself indifferent to and the characters I started to like surround themselves with so much drama I just grew weary of it. I probably won't ever read more in this series, but it kind of felt the author was just try to get to the story he wanted to tell and we just have to grind through it until they reach that point.

Wonderful
A story mixing Chinese, Japanese, and Western influences to craft a beautiful world. A main character chased by trouble. A very interesting premise. Would recommend it. I am jumping straight into Book 2.

So good
Like candy for lovers of Wuxia and LitRPG. Great character progression, under dog hero against the word. What else could you not like about that.

A masterpiece
I am in awe. Forget the intrinsic storyline that simply builds not brick upon brick, but pillar upon pillar, the true value in this series is the artistry of words. Forget Shakespeare, whose outdated sophistications are forced upon unwilling youngsters for no reason. These books show a surprising quality far beyond the norm. As simple and predictable as the story may appear, the true marvel in this series is the wordplay, a deceiving fluidity that captures the mind out of the blue. You have to go on, lest you miss just a single quip. And you will be forced to go back and reread not just a sentence, but an entire block of written wonders, not because you did not comprehend what is written, but for the plain need to truly comprehend what you just witnessed. More than once was I captured by the artistry of wordplay. I am a writer myself. I bow my head to the master.
