On the afternoon of 12 March 1993, a series of explosions cut a swathe of terror and destruction through Bombay. The toll: 257 killed or missing, 713 injured, and a city in a shambles. In Black Friday , S. Hussain Zaidi takes us into the heart of the conspiracy which spanned several countries, and the massive investigation that ensued. A product of four years of meticulous research, the book gives chilling insights into the criminal mind, through interviews with close associates of Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon, among others. The characters we meet are compelling: the terrorists, the corrupt law enforcement agents who abetted the plot, the investigators who would stop at nothing, and, above all, the people of Bombay of whose resilient spirit this book is a celebration. Review: fantastic book - A must read for everyone .... A page turner....Hussain zaidi has packed in everything one could want to know about the dreadful series of events that shook our city ... Review: Black Friday - Truth in pages... - Hats off to Hussain Zaidi, it brought back the scenes that I saw in the movie Black Friday when I was way younger and didn't knew that such a book existed or the movie was based on this movie. It sent shivers down my spice imagining the horrors of the blasts..detailed and well researched books or master pieces as his forte!

gives a good perspective
What's cool is that this well researched book lets you understand the incidents very well. Perhaps the only such book about the tragic incident.

black friday -- story of bombay bomb blasts
a gripping and well written book. Gives one a in-depth and yet simple explanation on the bombay bomb blasts. The author's sketchy writing about Dawood's role in the whole episode does rob the story of critical truths

Great book to read
Really great book to read. Husaain Zaidi has done great research. Parts of the ending turned out a bit boring.

It's better than the movie
I bought this book after watching the Anurag Kashyap directed masterpiece and honest to God, I was hugely and pleasantly surprised. This book is definitely not a literary gem. If you are looking for one, please read William Shakespeare.....but this was so hard-hitting, gritty, and fiesty that it actually overshadows the film by miles. I enjoyed every bit of it and would love to read other works of Mr. Zaidi.

Tautly written yet journalistically faithful!
Mr Zaidi accomplishes the rare: converting a historical, controversial and tragic series of events in India’s history into a tightly woven, thrilling at times, gruesome at others, but above all faithful narrative based on documentary evidence and replete with journalistic integrity. Kudos!

Those who love Mumbai must read this.
Born and brought up in Mumbai, and growing up as a small child through the terrible 92’ Bombay riots and the devastating 93’ blasts, I always wanted to learn more about the city I call home. Through this book, and others by Zaidi sir, I learnt a lot about ‘My City’. They include how Mumbai has a unique culture, how different communities make the city what it is today, how religious madness tried to destroy its fabric, and how in times of distress, the different religions come to each other’s aid without hesitation. Hats off to Zaidi sir. A must-read book (along with Dongri to Dubai, Byculla to Bangkok) for those who truly call Mumbai their home.
