The 2100Q Portable Turbidimeter can be used in both fresh water and salt water. It is most commonly used in the application of potable water testing, because its test procedure adheres to the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) requirement that test procedures for the analysis of contaminants under its Safe Drinking Water Act (40 CFR 141) follow the method given in the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, section 2130 B (Nephelometric Method). The United States Geological Survey also references this method for the determination of turbidity in high-salt and brackish waters.
