Wallenford Roasted Whole Bean Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, 8oz bag

Definitely an awesome coffee. Very smooth, excellent color, aroma, and taste. I will be ordering a larger quantity soon, as this coffee exceeded what I was looking for. I'm not a connoisseur of coffee, and don't claim to be an expert of such, but I can say if you want a very good quality cup of coffee that would put most coffees to shame, just give this one a try, you definitely won't be sorry you did.

Coffee is one of my four food groups, and Jamaica Blue Mountain is absolutely the best. I have indulged in it for years, though sporadically due to the high cost. But when I found out a coffee-snob coworker hadn't even heard of it, much less tried it, I had to set him straight. This 2oz pack of whole beans was absolutely perfect for the task. Small enough not to break the bank but large enough to make 3 or 4 cups, this pack allowed me to share the great taste of JBM coffee with him, and he was blown away. The flavor is rich and smooth, better than any other coffee I've tried. I think next time, I'll go for a full pound and live in coffee heaven for a week or so.

Taste should be unique but a little weak flavor, furthermore it’s expensive!

I have just received another 2 oz bag of JBM coffee beans from Wallendorf in replacement of the original one which I found unsatisfactory and left a 2 star review for. This time around the coffee beans arrived only a few days after the roast date and are very good taste-wise. Wallendorf's customer service did a great job.

I had bought a few pounds of Wallenford JBM coffee years ago on a trip to Jamaica and remember it being awesome coffee. We drank a ton of it at the resort that we stayed at and it really made an impression, such that I have wanted to experience it again. A couple of years ago I asked a co-worker visiting Jamaica to bring me back a pound and they brought me back a bag of Jablum beans, which I found disgusting. Last I had checked the Wallenford was about 40 per pound, now I see it is going for 30 for only 8oz... :( but I decided to splurge and get myself 8 oz of beans. They were ground in my ceramic burr grinder and percolated in my small 16oz coffee pot at a very low temp about 10-15 min to achieve a good color and I have to say, the flavor just isn't there. Yes it is OK, but not what I remember, not "full" and robust. I tried increasing the grounds several times, and varying the percolate time, and these beans just could not achieve the robust full flavor. Using about 55 grams of beans = about six bucks for a single cup, and this does not equate to that good of a cup of coffee... I will not waste my money on these again as local roasters can provide much better beans.

(Preface) I have had the most expensive coffee's that exist from Pure Kona Coffee, Single Estate Peaberry Beans, Used every brewing method (go to is pour over) and always grind my own beans. While this is certainly a medium roast in the truest sense (the beans are light brown), and is a very smooth cup with low acidity, I have had better than or equal to for much less. There is a very high bar that would need to be met IMO in order to justify the cost associated with the "infamous" Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, and it was not close. While every location varies in consistency, it is possible you have had a cup of donut coffee that was just as good as this for around a $1.00. I believe that due to the limited growing region, the bulk exports to Japan, and unique growing conditions, that is what drives the cost so high however, that does NOT mean it's better. I think the master roaster at Wallenford could do a better job at bringing out more of the flavor from these beans by going with a medium plus roast or a city roast. Lastly, taste is subjective. I am not trashing Wallenford, they do produce a decent product, but it is far from phenomenal....... If you can afford to try it, do so by all means, just don't expect a utopian cup of coffee. Peet's medium roast Cafe Domingo blows this one out of the water as it had more depth and complexity.

I’ve never had Blue Mountain coffee before so I did a little homework before I ordered Wallenford’s. Regular coffee can be strong and bitter so I usually fix mine with sweetener and lots of creamer. I was really surprised to find Wallenford’s to be mild and smooth with no bitter aftertaste. It was creamy with a hint of caramel. I used a tiny bit of sugar and creamer but it really didn’t need it. I could have drank it black. It was delicious and I will buy it again and would recommend it to friends.

Due to the cost of 100% Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, I have been buying a blend which is ok. I was curious about what 100% Blue Mountain might be like but since I'm not willing to spend $80 on an experiment I purchased just a few ounces. When I opened opened the bag I did not get the nice coffee smell that I expected and thought that the beans might be a bit stale. Anyway, I course ground the beans and brewed them using both my french press and my super-automatic and was not impressed. There was somewhat of an interesting flavor but I would not buy it again. Perhaps I don't get the "Blue Mountain thing"?
