Spiders of the North Woods, Second Edition (Naturalist Series)

Great little book, includes New England
I have and love the Butterflies of New England book in this series, I was so excited to see they had a spider one, it's great. Although the series is called North Woods and there is a little map of just the upper midwest on the back, the ranges within this book include all of the greater northeast quadrent of the country, and specifies New England in many cases. I've looked up all of my local spiders that I know of here and they are all in this book. It's nice to have books for our specific region of the country, it helps me narrow down the suspects. As with the butterfly book, this one is very easy to use, great photos with arrows pointing out key features to aid in identification, nice descriptions, organized by family.

... got home I purchased the book for myself and love it. Great info and clear pictures - love ...
Was first introduced to this book at a training led by Larry Weber so of course there was some bias there - but when I got home I purchased the book for myself and love it. Great info and clear pictures - love that male and female variations are included when available and it's easy to see which is which when using the book. I appreciate the introduction at the beginning and the breakdown of characteristics and what to look for to narrow down to Family to aid in identification. Not a spider expert, but I feel confident I could ID accurately with this book in hand. Would love to have versions for neighboring biomes/regions in addition to the North Woods.

Great Field Guide!
A great field guide for beginners or quick reference. I'm actually in Missouri, but I've found that most of the common species in my area are also in this guide.

Great Spider Book.
Another great book by Larry Weber. Logically organized, informative, and wonderful photos. This is an especially good book for someone getting started in observing spiders as there is clear information on basic anatomy, webs, and spider biology including hints for observing and collecting.

Regional info is great
Got all of these north woods books for my mother. They vary a little in quality, but overall are outstanding. It's great to have regionally specific information.
