Hi , There are no plastic parts. The the piece that holds the bamboo bristles is a soft rubber so the bristles move smoothly through your hair.

how long is the handle?

The handle is 4 inches, then tapers up for another inch. It is very smooth and comfortable. Very natural in my hand and I have medium (on the smaller side of medium) women's hands. I love this brush. It doesn't pull out My hair when I run it through my naturally curly hair when wet.
