i simply needed a rack to install on the back of a utility closet door to hold things such as cleaning supplies, tapes, light bulbs and everyday tools. Before making a purchase online, I make it a habit to read several reviews - both positive and negative. Reading a few negative reviews NEARLY dissuaded me from my purchase, but I couldn't get away from the fact of the very reasonable price. I honestly did not have huge expectations. HOW WRONG I WAS! I am very pleased with this rack! Knowing it is a back of door rack, it kind of seems like "Common Sense" that you would need to secure it to said door. In retrospect, I should have cracked up laughing at the reviews which complained things fell out of the back of the rack when it has no back (the door does that) and it wasn't secure - the comedian famous for the saying "Here's Your Sign" comes to mind. The only "challenge" was trying to secure the rack using the puny small headed screws provided. They simply do not do a good job of securing the "notch" where the screw is meant to go. I easily resolved that by placing a washer between the screw head and the rack's notch. Easy peasy! Now the rack is quite secure. I like that the "depth" of the rack is perfect and does not stick out further than the door frame - enabling me to place in the utility closet without having shelves interfere with the rack. Now, I have commonly used items in easy reach and my closet is free from the clutter formerly taking up space. I plan to order at least two more: one for the bathroom door and the other for the back of the door leading into my basement. Bottom line- This rack is a very cost effective way to organize commonly used items, freeing up shelving and giving new purpose to previously wasted space. It is not appropriate for industrial use or strong enough to hang from (not the purpose anyway!). Use common sense and you will be pleased as well!

Love this thing. Mom does as well. I mounted it to the backside of a custom built pantry door for my mother as part of her kitched remodel. I did not use the supplied supports, so I can't speak to how well they work. Nor did I use the hooks that can be used to join the two rack units together. But, I can assure anyone interested in this item that it functions great. It is strong enough to support boxed goods, normal sized cans, loafs of bread/bagels, etc. I wouldn't go too heavy on it though. It is a wire rack after all. This is especially true if you are mounting it to a hollow door using screws. I wouldn't recommend that at all unless some type of anchor system is used. To me, this makes sense as a light item "go to" rack. Rather than fiddling with a shelf and all the issues stacking, get this rack, and throw your spices, breads, pastas, rice, sugar, and such on it. The actual racks' usable space is about 10.5" (heighth) x 15.5" (width) x 4.5" (depth). So, with 6 shelves, that is quite a bit of space that can be utilized that would otherwise go wasted. Mounting in my case was a snap. It has supplied screws, but I didn't use them. I wanted a heavier screw, and there was plenty of room to do so... The shelf is a two piece design and each piece can be mounted individually with 4 screws. Obviously permanently mounting the rack gives much more rigidity, so if you can go that route, do it. Finish and color are just fine, and the packaging was adequate to ensure no dings. If you are on the fence on this one, go for it. The price makes this a no brainer when matched to the quality and features. I highly recommend.

I bought this last year to help organize my cluttered pantry and while it doesn't work well on it's own, I followed the advice of several reviewers to modify it. The way it comes, the bottom rack just hangs off the top rack by a set of rather flimsy hooks and as soon as you put stuff in it and start opening and closing door, the whole thing swings around and bends out of shape. Not very stable, but luckily it's easy enough to bend back into shape. I bought some large command hooks and attached those to the door to hang the bottom section off of. In addition, I used a few of the Command decorating hooks to hold the bottom part of each section to the door. With these changes, it works great! It's very stable and can fit a lot of food. It has greatly increased the space in our pantry and has helped us get organized. I recommend this rack, but be aware that it does require some modifications in order to work properly.

I've seen people bash this product in reviews, which isn't helpful at all. Now it's true that this unit hangs on a door, therefore there is going to be some if not a lot of swinging action when you open or close said door. They did include 8 wood screws (not the best screws) but as most people have a hollow door for their pantry, these screws will provide little to no support for the rack, not to mention the heads of the screws are not large enough to "grab" hold of the rack once screwed in. In a hollow door, you have at the most 1/8th of an inch of actual wood structure to grab a hold of, and the screws provided will work, but I'm sure for a very limited time. Assembly: Basic assembly is very straight forward, but that won't do you much good unless you have a solid wood door for the less than adequate screws provided with the package attached. If you plan on using this rack system, I suggest securing it to the door by other means than the screws provided. I used white cable staples with wood glue on the leads as re-enforcement. Usage: Here is where people make the critical mistake for any add-on product. They assume they can use the door like they always have before and this can cause tons of issues. remember you are adding something to the door and then adding a lot of extra weight, if you open that door with any kind of force, things are going to happen. The shelves seem sturdy and able to hold a decent amount of weight. That said, it also depends on how you secured the rack to the door. If you are lazy, this rack will suck, if you take your time and do it right, it will perform exactly how it is supposed to. Overall: This product with better securing methods for different types of doors would make it a 4 or 5 star product, the fact that I had to buy additional supplies lowers the rating of my review and the product. Six shelves is good, but the lowest shelf is only useful for children to reach, and the top shelf is something only someone 6' or taller can reach. For me the bottom shelf will go unused. Recommendation: Okay buy, but you better not be lazy when installing or you will be writing a bad review on this product. *** UPDATE *** 1/13/14 I've been reading the reviewers who say this thing can't hold any weight at all. We removed all the items we had on the shelves and put them on the scale - 30 LBS. As I stated in my review, if you are lazy and don't secure it to the door, then yes it will not hold any weight, but do it right and all is good. *** UPDATE *** 4/2/15 Still rock solid. Totally my favorite I put it inside my walk-in pantry and it works wonderful. I will suggested for anybody who wants to organize.

This item might be good for holding certain things, and it might fit some people's situation, but based entirely on the listing, this item does NOT deliver what it says it will. Here are the reasons (just reasons for ME) that this does not meet my expectations and is not acceptable. You may not encounter these reasons, they may not apply to you, or you may yet have your own problems, but if any of this puts you off from buying this, then hopefully my experience has helped you to avoid repeating it. Problem #1 :: Size I didn't believe it, but this item is not the width it indicates (at least, not the one I got, who knows what you'll get). I have a door that's 18.5 inches, and I thought I'd wing it and hope for the best. I had a back-up door that would just as easily be suitable that is much wider. So I strap this thing overtop of the door and it's hanging more than 3/4 inch off each side. That puts this thing at an inch over spec. I measured it, and it came out to be about 15/16 inches (depending on where exactly I measured. Problem #2 :: SCREWS ARE REQUIRED This is probably the worst piece of false information in the product listing. I'm sorry, but if you say "will not harm the door's finish" then you cannot ship a product that will NOT be stable/functional/sturdy without screwing it into the door. Screws are not mentioned anywhere in this product description. Problem #3 :: Totally unstable This thing is prone to shifting, sliding, wobbling, flopping, and all kinds of other verbs. You may be able to screw this down, but since I was promised NOT having to do this, I tried it without screws and it does NOT stay put at all. Problem #4 :: Not suitable for heavy items Unless you REALLY screw it in at every screw point, and even so who knows (I can't, I rent), I would not recommend holding any canned goods, liquids, bottles, etc. It is not designed to be stable in any way (see problem 3) which is especially bad for item . I have boxes of tea in it and EVEN TEA is subject to picking up so much momentum when I open and close the door that this thing rattles around and loses a few items once in a while. And, even if I did screw it down, heavy items slide off because the shelves are not tall enough. If you have a heavy item that is relatively tall (tall enough to justify the next shelf being as high up as it is), then that items center of mass is above the top of the shelf. When you open the door, things slide outwards and may topple over. This is EVEN IF you screw it down. Unless you are an incredibly slow, boring, cautious person when you open your doors. But if you trapped an alien in your pantry by slamming the door on him, which happens in very awful movies, you WILL lose all the stuff off your shelves because they aren't designed properly. I should have known all of this from browsing people's reviews, but at the moment this thing is averaging 4 stars, which I find to be totally mind-boggling. If you've got this far, you made a smarter choice than I did by reading the reviews first. Find a similar product that meets your needs because, if you are anything like me, you will find that (despite what it says in the product listing) this thing will not do it. To be honest, with a 4 star rating, I expect better than this. This item is a poorly designed (was it even designed at all??). It is flimsy, but if it were designed properly AND screwed in, it might be suitable. However, it wouldn't be suitable for those of us who bought it assuming (and I quote...) that it "will not harm the finish of wall or door" -- this is patently false. It actually cannot "be mounted to a wall or hung over the inside of just about any door," because the OR in this sentence should be an AND. And, sadly, they can't even get "19-Inch wide by 5-Inch deep" -- it's a bit more than 19 inches (which is a big deal if your measurements are close) and it's actually not quite 5 inches deep (not a problem for me, but quite a few folks with DVDs are -- rightfully -- complaining about that dimension as well). Too expensive to ship back. Waste of my time and money. Absolute garbage being shilled by people too bored or apathetic to give anything but five star reviews. This is junk that shouldn't even be made in China it's so crummy. Don't buy it. Don't let retailers and mfrs get away with producing junk that doesn't even live up to the product descriptions they provide to Amazon.

EDIT: turns out that for this new set (well, I bought two more), my doors aren't cooperating; so the unit slides and pouches out. I could probably solve the problem by screwing the shelves against the door (duct tape is not enough), or by covering the door with a towel, but I found a better use for the shelves: as baskets. I placed each of the three-tiered pieces opposite each other, and then wound white duct tape over the 'basket' centers where they met, so they would stay closed. Look at the picture and imagine instead, fastening the two units facing and against each other at their 'basket' junctures: ___][___ |______| ___][___ |______| ___][___ |______| As I tried to show (sideways) above, the result is a three-tiered, double-faced basket which can sit on the ground at waist height (or on a shelf). Each double-faced 'basket' can hold a standard Rubbermaid twin sink dishpan, so if a 'basket' does happen to split apart, the unit as a whole will still function. If the duct tape (or binder clips, even paper clips) hook the facing units rightly to make that freestanding three-tier 'basket' sturdy, you can even hang/carry/hold plant pots (i.e., herbs). Can hang it on a shower, closet, patio or other rod, or easily carry it around rooms or to and from the car as desired, sit it on top of the washer or a rolling cart, hang from the rolling cart, etc. For me, this usage is far more useful than the product's original intent. In particular, rolling carts are designed at waist height, so what if I want them higher? Plop one of these makeshift 'basket' thingies on the highest shelf, then if I need to use the cart's own top shelf for something else, voila, easy to just lift off the basket! The 'basket' will also hang well from a high-enough door, if you use the big white wreath hangers here in Amazon (see my review on the hangers, they are better than you could buy in a Dollar Store). The long wreath hangers angle out, so the (now doubled, facing) shelves are stable. I just don't want to use them that way. Original review, follows below. ================= These are half-width and half-height shelves ('half' meaning the amount of door width and height each uses up). But they are very sturdy, and I don't remember ever having to clean them in the past (this is a repeat purchase). The beauty of them is that the steel is strong, the coating is strong, and you don't need special hooks to hang them over your doors. They come in a pair with ONE set of over-the-door thin metal hooks, just as pictured. So, for example, you can instead hang them from a rolling cart (covered below), using mere S-hooks. The over-the-door hooks won't prevent most interior doors from closing, and are also coated (with paint, not plastic). So if you have white doors like I do, the unit is unobtrusive. Great for bathroom supplies, VHS tapes, most handheld books, canned goods. But you do have to be a tad careful when you swing the door. Because the top wire is amenable to any kind of hanging hook, you could instead take the pair and twist-tie them together to make a whole hanging three-tier 'basket', and then hang that 'basket' from some wire rolling trolley/cart/rack (like you can buy from Seville or Whitmor right here in Amazon or elsewhere). So you get an extra hanging space from the same cart space. Of course, in that configuration, what you put in the 'basket' will need to be unbreakable or fairly lightweight, in case you roll the rack often. Alternatively, you can take either or both in the pair, and use them upside down, as sorters/dividers for large mixed objects. Lots of bang for the buck!

Setup is straightforward. The rack arrives in two three-tier sections that hook together, and the whole thing hangs over the door with a pair of included over-door hooks. No tools required for basic installation, though if you plan to load it up with heavier items, a couple of small screws through the included wall kit will keep it from swaying. I went with some 3M Command hooks along the bottom half instead of putting holes in the door, and that worked great. The six shelves are 19 inches wide and about 5 inches deep, which is the sweet spot for spice bottles, condiments, boxed mixes, and cleaning supplies. Heavier canned goods will cause the baskets to bow a bit, so keep those on your main shelves. Stick to lighter items and this thing holds its shape just fine. The vinyl coating is smooth, wipes down easily, and has held up well without any rust or flaking. At this price, the value is genuinely hard to argue with. It essentially doubles your usable pantry door real estate for next to nothing. One heads up: smaller bottles can lean or tip between the wire rungs. A simple fix is sliding a piece of cut vinyl tile or a shelf liner strip onto the basket bottom. Takes two minutes and solves the problem completely.

It is great for storing the jars, tins and bottles.

I use this in back of the door for towels, and extra toilet paper. Excellent and it gives me more space. You can roll a towel into each one, but if you roll two in one together, not large enough. I find it works for me with the one towel easy row.

Great way to get extra use of the space in a pantry. With this unit we saved a ton of shelf space! Easy to install and great value.

on the weak side but overall a decent product, it organizes smaller items nicely. I put stiffer plastic liner on the shelves so there's more of an even surface for things to sit on. i use it for such things as spice bottles (suggest mostly plastic bottles, not all glass), tape rolls, flashlights, etc. it collapsed once from too much weight (i added 2 larger, glass candle jars and some air fresheners) and the over-the-door hangar on one side un-bent, but because it is not very strong metal it was easy to re-shape and it has been holding fine once i removed the extra weight.
