Dorman 85984 Electrical Switches - Specialty - Starter Switches - Push Button Sealed - Universal Fit

I used this switch (Dorman 85984) as an emergency open/close switch for a Mighty Mule gate opener. It works very well and seems to be very well-made. To give it more weather resistance, I housed it in a small round Tupperware container, leaving only the black button exposed to the elements. I was so impressed by the quality, I ordered another to use as, you guessed it....a remote starter switch!

Installed on my Polaris ATV because I didn't want to spend $125 on OEM switch, worked great for 6 months then failed this weekend. For the money I just ordered the same switch again, maybe will get longer than 6 months use out of the 2nd one.

The switch itself seems well made. The only visible deficiency are the contact screws. They are tiny, and appear to be very low quality. I'll update later if they cause any trouble with stripping or rusting. At least they claim to have a lifetime warranty. I bought it to use as a weatherproof horn button on my riding mower. It will work, but the spring is a bit too stiff for this application.

As a couple other reviewers did, I used this switch to replace the bothersome "key start switch" on my Sears electric-start, self-propelled 22" lawn mower. My mower is a Craftsman model 12AE999, which is identical to similar models sold under the MTD label, Yardman (Lowes) etc. I suspect this switch will fit a multitude of other electric start mowers straight away, and fit the "rest" with a little modification! On my mower the Dorman switch fit perfectly into the slot that held the key switch. You pull a couple screws from the battery compartment, yank the key switch (and toss it into the trash!), and wire up the new switch and fit it in the slot . This switch has a great (high) amp rating that lets the current flood into the starter! At $7 with "Prime", it's a deal, and when you push the button the machine REALLY cranks!

I bought this switch to replace a failed kill switch on my 1970 Evinrude boat motor. It fits many old boat motors. A great hack.

Works perfect. Put this on a Chinese ATV. There are 2 wires on the bottom of this momentary button. Added 2 wires One connected to one side of the starter relay the other wire to the other relay. Used a unibit or step drill bit to drill a hole in the plastic to mount the button. Just as easy as that you bypass the starter button

worked like it was supposed to..

Button i received was completely different from what was advertised. Did NOT come with any kind of dust cover. Still looks like it will work for me, but not at all what was expected.
