Is this high carbon steel? At least 1060?

I’m not really sure of the metal type. When I received mine, I returned them for being damaged with a slight bend. Not a 1095 for sure, but probably not a 1060 either.

Do you have to sharpen it before use?

Yes you should but understand that it won't need a razors edge for basic garden or field use but if u r tryna go full hog on a zombie now that's different.... and oil em up or they'll rust fast after first use
