My method
We've been in our current house for about 12 years. I've intended to purchase one of these cleaning kits on several different occasions but never did until just recently. I used it with a drill and it worked great. Unless you're using it on a very short section of ducting, I can't imagine trying to use it without a drill. Here's how I did it, which isn't exactly how the directions said to do it.1.) First, I started outside the house with the dryer running on "air dry", so no heat. Having the dryer running on air dry helps ensure that the lint blows out rather than getting compacted in the ducting. One word of caution, obviously you do not want to run the brush into a running dryer, so make sure the assembled brush doesn't extend into the dryer itself.2.) Start with the brush and one or two sections of rods from the outside of the house. With the drill running, slowly insert them as far as they'll go. Still with the drill running, slowly pull it all the way out. This will help ensure all the lint you're loosening has a chance to blow out. My air dry cycle only lasts for about 10 minutes, so I had to restart it a couple times.3.) Repeat with each added rod. Also, only add one rod at a time. Same as before, this helps ensure the loosened long blows out rather than compacting and resulting in a clogged duct. Repeat until you have cleaned the entire length of ducting.4.) I bought the 12' version and it turned out I had a run about 20' long. So part 2 involved disconnecting the dryer from the ducting and cleaning from the inside if the house. I'd recommend not doing it from the inside, if possible. The reason being, it's much easier to end up with a compacted clogged duct. I actually ran a long shop vac hose in first that was able to clear some of the lint before running the brush in. I ended up filling a 7 gallon bucket with all the lint that came out of ~20 feet of duct. I was shocked, and I'll be cleaning mine much more regularly than once every 12 years!

Works great but can't handle really tight turns
I don't think my dryer duct had been cleaned out since the house was built in 1977, so this was long overdue. The device is simple to use, the only problem I had was that the larger brush couldn't get around the tight turns in my vent (which probably aren't even to modern code). I tried the smaller brush instead, and that did loosen everything up good, though it mangled the brush in the process. Taking a tip from another reviewer, I finished the job with a leaf blower! Just taped a plastic bag over the inside end of the vent, stuck the blower in the outside, and whoosh! It all blew down to the bottom of the vent. I then vacuumed it out from the inside. I ended up filling my Dyson canister three times with hard-packed lint. Super gross, but I bet my dryer will work so much better now, and less chance of a house fire. I have not yet been able to unscrew the plastic rods from each other, but even if I am not able to get it taken apart again and have to toss those, $25 for a duct cleaning was a bargain.

Flexible enough for at least one bend, and two heads with the 24' kit helpful for square ducts
This 24' kit worked great for my 24' dryer duct run. I was able to get it around one bend from either side, but wasn't able to get it past a second bend. The resistance increased so much I was afraid of breaking the rods when it was 16' into the duct work. Hooking up a blower on the other side of the duct I was able to push air and a lot of debris past the bristles, so I didn't have to keep pulling it out every time to clear the clogs. I removed bird nests, bird egg shells, unhatched gecko eggs, and mud wasp nests along with the dryer lint. I couldn't believe how much build up was in the duct. For the square duct run inside the wall, I was able to use both heads side-by-side to get better coverage, running two rods simultaneously and pushing them in and out manually (without rotation). Unscrewing the sections required pliers afterwards. I'm very happy this kit held up, and plan to clean my duct more frequently!

The only way to clean ducts
As a homeowner myself, I was looking for something to clean my ducts but a few things hasn't worked for me. Here are the few things that have not worked for me. I tried using a vacuum hose extension, tried using a long stick with a brush head, and tried the dust swifters, but they haven't really cleaned the entire duct as well as I wanted. This vent brush does the trick. Saving me time and money on the other items. This really gets into the duct to clean all the edges and corners of the duct very well. The bristles are soft so they won't damage your ducts and safe to use on plastic or metal ducts. Super easy to install onto your cordless drill, less than 1-2 minutes to screw them on and ready to go. Actually surprised me the first time using this with how much lint was in my ducts, which could be a fire hazard if left alone. Definitely recommending this to my friends and family. They would appreciate what I have gone through.

Needs a drill bit to work effectively.
This brush kit worked well for removing lint from the dryer vent duct. However, it does NOT include the drill bit needed to use the brush right out of the package with your drill. Some kits for sale do include the needed drill bit, make sure the kit you’re purchasing includes exactly what you need. I can’t imagine this brush being very effective without a drill. We eventually got it going with a screw bolt and drill bit purchased at HD. Be sure and tape each rod at the join as you add each one . Rotate the brush clockwise to ensure it doesn’t unscrew and separate in the duct. We were able to clean most of the duct from outside, collecting the lint into a container, & then the vent from inside the house until completely clean.

Save yourself $$$ and a potential house fire
I got my wife a new dryer to replace the “overly reliable” 20 year old unit we had in place. I got nervous after having a flash fire inside of the unit from loose accumulation of lint. I thought maybe it was our fault for not cleaning it out well enough, but reality was that the problem was deeper. The new unit kept tripping a fault code after running for a half hour or so. The code said the duct was too restricted (clogged). I got this cleaning kit and ran it through the duct several times while sucking it out with a shop vac. Unbelievable how much lint was built up in that duct. I’m guessing the new dryer’s fault codes and this cleaner saved me from a eventual house fire.
