King Crab Is Their Quarry. The long shadow of Captain Phil Harris stretches like a Bering Sea storm over the Dutch Harbor fleet in Season 9 of Deadliest Catch. Especially over his sons, Josh and Jake, as they take over co-ownership of the Cornelia Marie. So will they step up, settle their differences and co-captain the Marie together, or will salty water prove thicker than blood? Season 9 also sees two new skippers join the veteran fleet and battle lines are immediately drawn. Aging warriors Captain Sig Hansen on the Northwestern, the Hillstrand brothers on the Time Bandit, Skipper Bill on the Kodiak and Captain Keith Colburn of the Wizard find their crab grounds invaded by 36- year-old Scott Campbell aka Junior who helms the fast, powerful Seabrooke, and 28-year-old rookie Elliot Neese, who runs a rusting floating frat-house called the Ramblin' Rose. These cocky young skippers are determined to stake their claim to the Bering Sea crab bounty, but soon learn that old age and treachery is a force to be reckoned with... So strap on those sea legs and head out into the 50-foot waves in search of the Deadliest Catch.

Love it!
Love this show. Always have. It is more about the drama that unfolds in the lives of the captains than it is about crab fishing with crab fishing as the encompassing factor in their lives.

A different style of directing this season
Deadliest Catch has always been one of those rare exceptions of a reality show that is not just mindless tripe for the masses. I would give every single season barring this one five stars.Something has happened with the direction the show has taken this year. There has always been drama, family and otherwise, but it meshed with the actual fishing process. Watching those guys cope with high seas and danger is just such a rush, and they are REAL. Even with the fame the show has given them, the old salty captains and the new up and comers want to be FISHERMEN, not actors.Somehow things have changed. I started to feel a bit uncomfortable by the third show- someone out there in Discoveryland has decided to gear this toward a more voyeuristic touchy feely reality thing. I wonder if they are trying to get more of a female audience? Hint to the producers: I am a female and I do not like this change at all. The show has done well all these seasons for a reason. Don't be changing the recipe. I'm catching a whiff of dead herring here so please lose the overdone drama and keep it natural. It's still a great show, but I'm withholding that fifth star this season.

Needs some pruning
I've loved this series from the beginning, possibly not for quite the same reasons as others. The beauty of the setting, ferocity of the sea, picturesque boats and their sometimes irascible captains and crews, along with the ever present dangers of Bering Sea fishing, make for riveting television.Recent changes of focus have not worked at all for me, drawing attention away from the fishing in favor of exploring and exploiting the tawdry personal life of one of the young captains, whose alternate whining, bragging and threatening have made me sometimes momentarily wonder whether I had accidentally tuned into Jerry Springer. The tone of the show has been considerably lowered and it's a real shame. The other captains are interesting characters, and we've been privileged to see how they handle the stresses and dangers of their work. We've gotten to know and respect them within the context of their working lives, and their personal lives have been left as the private matters they should be.I still love the big waves, the beauty and danger, and occasional conflict but - if the present trend continues - this may be the last season I'll watch Deadliest Catch.

retiring
I have watched and loved DC from the beginning but just as some of the fisherman I have grown pretty tired of it and am retiring from watching it Since the Cornelia Marie is gone things seemed to have gone downhill from there with the story lines. I have watched faithfully until the last 2 years though. Sad about it!

One of our favorite programs
We don't have cable so much of our entertainment comes from the internet. Deadliest catch is one of our favorite programs. The fishing life seems to take a toll on families and relationships. The producers don't shy away from the hard stuff. The show comes across as being real instead of scripted. It makes me better appreciate crab dinners and what the fishermen go through.

deadliest catch indeed
have been watching since the second year. have gotten so attached to the guys involved. always in my prayers. excellently done show that more often than not keeps one on the edge of the seat waiting for what the next wave will bring. the conflicts and the resolutions (when things work out) are documented in a very real, and often impressive way. Discovery lets the personal courage and foibles of the characters followed show through in a well-woven manner. love this show

Worth the money
I don't have cable tv and that means I actively choose which programs I'm going to pay for and watch. I've really enjoyed this one. Having been a deck hand and a marine electronics tech ( in the Gulf of Mexico) I have been exposed to a pretty fair amount of boat life. These guys are truly hard core and maybe a bit nuts for what they do. 100 foot boats in 25 foot seas? No way!

Was soll der Mist?
Mfg

Narrator disappointment.
I have all 9 seasons and am totally disappointed with the Scottish narrator. The feel of the show changes and having waited ages for the release, I'm gutted.I don't see why you cannot have an audio option and choose between both narrator's. The show itself is as good and compelling as ever. This obviously is my preference and only wish that the full details were shown in the product description. It is my opinion that the narrators style has no feel or excitement the show deserves.

Deadliest Catch
I have the whole collection. This is the first time we see that the fishermen have started to be discouraged because of the way the younger captains that are up and coming are behaving. They are not part of the fishing fleet family and do not follow the same ideals that have been handed down through the generations.
