Amazing and I am NOT a car detailer! Tips offer below
My wife drives an older black 4Runner. It is in great shape (it is a Toyota) but needed a good cleanup. So I decided to go for it and bought this kit. From what I can tell, it seems that I used about half of the product to do one treatment. It is a four step project and took me a total of 4 hours to complete them. First, I ran through a high end car wash. Then I walked through the four steps. All of the steps are super easy so I will finish this brief review by telling you what I experienced and what I will do differently next time. The cleaner wax step did a really nice job. The detail spray helps you take the excess off. The Final wax was a lot harder to remove. Tips: I would run the vehicle through a car wash, which I did. I would CLAY BAR the vehicle second. There are so many invisible "dots" on a black car that the only way to know if the black vehicle is clean enough before to waxing is with your bare hand. I didn't do this step and therefore I effectively sealed in invisible tree sap, road specks etc on to the vehicle. I would have a VERY bright area to work in. It is extremely difficult to detail a black car in any other scenario. I had a total of four overhead lights and two portable fluorescent work lights going for the project. Finally, the products have an odor, not unpleasant, but it is a little strong. Have some ventilation going. Also prepare to throw away or hand wash shop rags, polishing cloths etc. I would NOT recommend trying to run them through your clothing washer and dryer as the dyes are very powerful. My wife was very pleased. Me too! It's a good DIY project and it looked way better than when I hired a detailer. Also the shine seems to last, which I think would have been even more true had I used the clay bar (not included.) I think you will love it.

Works as advertised and then some, but it's EXTREMELY messy and time-consuming
My wife currently drives a 2005 Mercury Mariner and no matter how many times we take it to get washed and waxed, the car never seems to have that pop to the black paint job that it used to have when we first bought it. So I decided to finally try the Turtle Wax Jet Black that I always see at the local auto stores (through Amazon it's about $5-6 cheaper than retail, so that's a plus). First the pros: it works as advertised. Holy cow does it work as advertised. You have to wash the car first before anything (there is no wash included in the Jet Black pack, so I used just plain ol' Turtle Wax Max Power Car Wash). Once it's cleaned and dried, you put on a pre-wax cleaner like you would regular wax, buff that off, then put on the included Black Carnauba wax, let THAT dry to a haze, then buff it off. After that long and arduous task (see the cons), the car looked like it had just rolled off the assembly line. It literally had a mirror-black finish. There were a few minor rubs on the fenders that were covered by the pre-wax/Carnauba wax, and a long scratch on the hood was almost completely covered. Something to note: it works to fill in MINOR scratches, but if it's under the clear coat and into the paint you're probably not going to have much luck with it. Which is kind of obvious and I don't think you need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that wax, regardless of whether it has black dye or not, is not going to fix that. And yet numerous other reviewers are still somehow shocked that it doesn't fix/cover scratches. So just be aware that you probably shouldn't expect miracles with this stuff. Regardless, the final result was stunning, on our car at least, so definitely worth the $13.99 + free shipping. And now for the cons: It is messy. EXTREMELY messy. I wore gloves and the stuff still seeped through the gloves and colored my fingertips black. It specifically states on the package that if you're allergic to dyes, wear gloves. And you should, regardless of allergy, because the stuff will get everywhere. It comes with 2 applicators, one for the pre-wax and one for the Carnauba wax, but they're those foam-style applicators and once you use them, they're garbage; interestingly enough, Amazon recommends that you purchase a separate pack of applicators and it's not a bad idea because these things are one-and-done. Once it dries to a haze you use a black detailer spray to wipe it off and buff it (with your own microfiber cloth; the package doesn't include any). Prepare to junk those cloths when you're done, though, because they most likely will not be salvageable. The other major con is that it is time-consuming. As in, you will need to set aside anywhere from 3-5 hours start to finish. Whether you think it's worth the time is subjective; looking at the finished result, I certainly thought it was. On the other hand, I don't plan on making it a part of my regular routine. I bought the Jet Black Spray Wax separately for in between washes, and have actually used it once already and it helped keep the same level of shine, so that may be the way to go. In any case, for the price it's not a bad alternative to the more expensive designer-type wax products, IF you have the time and constitution to spend that much time waxing a car. I'm giving it 5 stars because of the end result, since our car has not looked like this literally since we first bought it, but fully acknowledge that spending 3-5 hours waxing a car is not something that the average person, or even I, would consider doing on a regular basis.

It's a complicated process, it does work, but I dunno...use a buffer to really get good results
It does work to bring out the shine on black vehicles but it doesn't do much to remove scratches, maybe I expected too much, I'm not sure. It is a messy product so wear gloves and use microfiber towels that you don't mind throwing away. If you use a buffer, count on throwing away your pads too as this product has a black tint to it. Pros: It does work to a point and it will make it shine a bit better and add some depth Cons: It is a messy product and process, it really only takes out very fine scratches to a degree In the end I will probably just go back to Turtle Wax Ice Update! If you know how to use a wool bonnet on a variable speed, variable orbit buffer, it does a stupendous job with the wax! Use the buffer on a lower speed to apply the cleaner and wax with a foam pad, remove it with a microfiber cloth, then hit it with the wool bonnet as a final step! My truck looks like it just came out of the showroom! Remember, apply the product to the foam pad when using the cleaner or the wax to help work it into the paint. Work it into the pad for less mess, put the buffer on your work, then hit the switch.

car wax for black cars
I LOVE this product! It does EVERYTHING it promises to do! I own a 2002 back car here in NY and our winters are brutal with all the salt, and contruction in the summer, LOTS of "dings" and scrapes in the parking lots. Tutle wax black box made my car look like it just came out of the showroom!! i have had many compliments on my cars' wax job which looks like mirror glass.....I LOVE IT!! Black box is a 4 step EASY treatment system. Wash and dry your car first. Directions are very easy to follow. ONLY issue I had, and it is NOT major, is that there in only a couple wipes, towels to use to remove the detail spray you have to use after you apply the pre-wax wash, then again after you apply the black box wax and use the detail spray to wipe it off, then you buff the wax. FILLS IN SCRATCHES AND THOSE "dings" I couldn't believe it!!!! It looks like new!!! Just don't get ahead of yourself applying the steps...you will WANT to when you see how AWESOME your car looks BUT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. I also used old, soft socks to remove the detailing spray both after the prewax wash and after applying the wax. WEAR GLOVES...........Your hands will be covered in black and only use socks, t-shirts or any other soft cloths that you plan to throw out.....they WILL be completly black BUT SO IS YOUR CAR!!!! WELL WORTH throwing out some old, holey socks to have a beautiful, shiney, no marked up, mirror glass waxed car..... I LOVE what black box did to my car and I will buy it over and over again as long as I own a black car!!! Jan in upstate NY

BACK IN BLACK big time
This product is awesome. I have a 03 Black Ranger that lives outside. I have neglected her. I decided rather than buy a new truck for mega bucks, I would invest in restoring the faded black paint. I did however discover this product AFTER using their ICE Compound which is miraculous in and of itself. It is a liquid rubbing compound that strips away the old and oxidized. The BEST thing about ICE is it comes off with water. You apply like wax and let it haze, then you can wash it off with a hose, or in my case I used a bucket of water and a sponge to go section by section. Holy cow, so easy and once done, all of the fine paint cracks mainly in the hood were revealed. Usually spider in nature, or singles about 1/32 to 1/8 inch, on the front third of the hood. NOT GOOD. Then I got to thinking someone must make a black wax.........hence I stumbled into Jet Black Box Kit. This stuff is killer. It does require a time investment but I was fine with that. I even did ALL of the recommended processes EVEN though I had already stripped her down with Turtle Wax ICE Compound. The Jet Black is easy to work with but gloves are needed. it is liquid about the consistency of your table pancake syrup.I applied it by hand and with and orbital buffer. Both were pretty easy. Does not take much on the applicator, perhaps a nickle to a quarter in size. The post haze spray removal process is super easy. The hazed wax comes off easy IF you follow the instructions down to MICRO FIBER towels. Of course, they are wasted and trash post, but it is the only way to go. Once done I was amazed at how the black neglected paint made a major comeback and looked almost brand new. The fine line cracks described earlier were masked and since doing this I have hit the auto wash at Soapy Joe's car wash at least 10 times now. In the right light I can start to see the fine line cracks reappear, but will wait a tad and do another wax only application on that front third of the hood where these are present. IN general this product does do what it says it will do and I am a big fan..............will buy more and keep the black BLAAAAAACK baby. Awesome product from a true DYI guy who knows just enough to know when it is, as is said........... it is. High recommend !!

PERFECT Results for a shiny BLACK CAR
This worked really well on my 2011 Legacy. The black tinted wax comes in 2 steps, each of which took me about 1 hr to complete. This is slightly time consuming, about the same as a traditional wax treatment. The product is black and gives a black tinted shine for black cars ONLY, that will help lessen the appearance of swirl marks and surface scratches. Both steps are applied with a sponge (included) and removed with a cleaning/finishing solution (2 bottles) and wiped clean with a microfiber towel (not included). I was very pleased with the outcome. The wax is not overly heavy and does not "pill" up when wiping clean after haze. It is a little bit more messy and will stain your hands/finger nails/ towels. I wasn't overly careful and still managed not to get any on me or my clothes. I purchased the kit for under $20 but would spend around $30-40 for it since it is specialized for my needs and did exactly what was advertised.. Each kit should easily be enough for 2 treatments for my mid sized sedan. If the kit included the Jet Black Tire Shine i think it would be a perfect all in one detail kit for a black car. Highly recommended, will post pictures on next treatment, i wasn't expecting much but it drastically exceeded expectations.

Hard Work, Minimum Gain
I tried this product on my black BMW 3 series. I've read reviews from several people who have tried Black Box and found some of their feedback acurate and some not. My input consists of 1. Although the product is reasonably priced, the number of microfiber towels needed for one application boosts the cost to approx 50% of purchase price. 2. The complaints of ruining clothing during application appear to be unfounded. I completed a full application in a white tee-shirt without incident. 3. Disposable latex gloves are HIGHLY recommended! 4. The manufacturer's suggested completion time of 3 to 3 1/2 hours to finish a medium sized sedan is absurd. Be prepared to spend an absolute MINIMUM of 6 to 8 hours for completion. I finished my BMW 3 series in just over 7 diligent hours. 5. The manufacturer leaves two buffing requirements (one each after step 1 and step 2) out of the instruction sequence. 6. The microfiber towels are non-recoverable after application. I used 12 standard size towels. 7. Only two bottles of Black Spray Detailer are included in the kit. That is not nearly enough in ratio with the amount of Step 1 and Step 2 included in the kit. You'll be stuck with plenty of step one and two after completion, but less than a full bottle of spray detailer. (you might squeak two applications out of a kit) 8. Results were somewhat disappointing. Although the car looks very nice, I believe I can get as good or better results with 1/100th the effort using Turtle Wax Ice, Macguires Carnuba, etc.. My conclusion is that unless you want to spend many tedious hours going over your car a MINIMUM of NINE TIMES (including wash and dry) only to get the same results you could have with much, much less effort using an alternative product, go with something less labor intensive. The only discernable benefit to using black box is the black wax fills swirls and leaves no white residue. However, after a trial run on my trunk lid, I found that just using a Kozak towel 3 or 4 times negates the Black Box effect and I was back where I started. My opinion, bottom line, is this product is way too much work for way too little return. It occured to me during application that perhaps this product/process was conceived by a direct decendant of the Marquis de Sade!

Best bang for the buck
I've used many detailing kits of the years, and this one by far makes for the best outcome. It's easy to use, takes a bit extra time to get through them all, but the end product is just stunning.

Buen producto.

great product
There are more steps in the application than other waxes but the end result is well worth the extra work. Fantastic shine and coverage.
