Sailor 11-1219-420 Profit Standard Fountain Pen, Black, Medium Point

I own a considerably large fountain pen collection and decided to expand my collection by including this Sailor 1911 profit. I love the looks of this classic design, which is homage the Montblanc line of fountain pens, but other than the looks that is where the look of a Mont Blanc end and the true art of Sailor take over. The nib is pure joy to write with. Right out of the box, this pen performed better than some pens costing hundreds of dollars more and sadly I do own quite a few of them! This pen, the profit standard is both affordable and a true representation of the Sailor artistry and I highly recommend this pen is you are seeking a pen with smooth crisp lines and a very balanced feel in your hands. I have used this pen both posted and unposted and, either way is a joy to hold and write with. I use this pen with Noodlers Bernanke black ink, and I can not find anything negative to say about this pen! After I purchased this pen I discovered that it is also offered with a 21k gold nib, and from what I have been told by a few of my colleagues that with its $131 price tag that it rivals the writing excellence of pens costing three times as much. I am currently looking at a Sailor Professional Gear pen to add to my collection which is priced at $135 and also comes with a 21k gold nib. The only word of caution I offer is almost all of the fine Japanese fountain pens I have written with are slightly different in terms of nib sizing in comparison to other luxury fountain pens and if you are comfortable with an extra fine, then you may find that the "fine" nib offered by Sailor will meet your needs. I do believe, however, that the quality of all of the Sailor pens far exceeds their price tag in terms of quality and craftsmanship​ and no matter which Sailor pen you purchase you will not be disappointed!

This is my second Sailor pen (my first being a Realo), and I have to say that after spending any time with a Sailor pen it's hard not to see why Sailor is such a lauded brand. I love this pen, it is well made, feels nice, and writes as smooth as silk. I do wish it were a little fatter and that it came with a converter, but those are minor quibbles in the grand scheme of things. My one major complaint has nothing to do with the pen (and did not affect my rating of the pen in any way). I ordered a Fine nib, but received a Medium Fine. At first I thought that it was the paper or ink that had my pen writing a bit thicker than expected, but once I examined the nib closely I saw the little "H-MF" on the side and realized what the real issue was. I like the pen so much that I am happy to keep it, but I am disappointed that Amazon (I bought it directly from Amazon, and not a third party seller) did not catch this before sending the pen off to me.

Japanese pens are quite pricey in the UK and not that widely sold, but as I had heard that the writing experience was different with them, this Sailor was priced at an attractive price to see what the fuss was all about. It appears that, along with the Germans, the Japanese venerate fountain pens and, naturally, seem to arguably make the best pens again along with the Germans. Writing with the Sailor is a very different experience to a Pelikan or Parker. There is far more response from the paper and while the writing is smooth one does not write as if one is sliding on an ice rink - which is perhaps the aim of some fountain pen manufacturers in Europe. But this responsiveness is by no means an unpleasant feeling and I found I increasingly wanted to take this pen out and write with it! Japanese nibs do appear to be one size finer - so if you like a fine line then you should buy a medium nib. They even have UEF - ultra extra fine nibs which are as the name implies. I am dying to try one of these to see if it can balance this very fine line with some smoothness. A very enjoyable pen and a great introduction to Japanese pens.

Acquistata un anno fa, all'inizio ero scettico sullo spessore ma dopo un anno di uso sono davvero contento del materiale e della performance del pennino.

Con decir Sailor ya se dice todo. Una marca con estilográficas que dan gusto por la suavidad y el maravilloso desempeño de sus plumines. Y la 1911 en concreto es una auténtica joya.
