Prize winning 'Heavy Euro': A lot going on
If you do not know what is meant by 'Heavy euro', 'card drafting', 'worker placement', 'market', 'point salad' or 'tableau building' you may wish to consider choosing another lighter game from this designer, as a gateway in the learning process (perhaps their easiest: 'Explorers of the North Sea'). Garphill have done (and are still doing) many games of high depth and complexity; all are rich, thematic, beautiful and reward the work to learn them. The age recommendation is 12 only due to the rules density (3.66/5 on Boardgamegeek). But there is a reason this is a favourite in the board game community and has won so many prizes. The rules are none of them complex, it's just there's a lot going on offering a myriad of complex choices. If you play for fun the person calculating carefully (a small risk of analysis paralysis) may beat you, but its complex enough that you may still actually sneak a win, via an unexpected point source! You'll feel as if you earned your wins, even surprise ones. This games is suited to Solo using a simple but challenging card driven AI: There is no shame to loosing to the AI opponent and you will, even once you master the rules sometimes!Once you get past learning the game you will be able to appreciate the art, component quality, depth of choices, thematic feel and glorious spread on the table: You will need a big table for up to 2 hours. You are not fighting each other though, there is very low player interaction, you are acting with a population to get productive actions done.Original, deep, intelligent, beautiful, engaging, fun for 1-4 players, in 90-120 minutes: What's not to like? Lots of 'how to play' videos on youtube will help.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Heavy, fiddly but excellent
Another excellent worker placement game from Renegade, following on from the brilliance of Architects of the WK. This game is more fiddly & heavier than Architects and plays more as a solo puzzle with fewer player interactions. Nevertheless a worthy addition to the gaming table top.

It's ok I suppose
I didn't really like this game, I felt that it was complex just for the sake of complexity. The mechanics were fine in general, I played it 5 times already with a friend of mine and we always scored consistently and finished the game with 3-5 points of difference, so overall a very balanced game with minimum luck element.
