Bosch PS21-2A 12V Max Two-Speed Pocket Driver Kit

Perfect hex bit driver and drill with two switchable speeds! It doesn't compare with my Rigid impact driver, but that's not why I bought it. It's the perfect all around tool for most everyday things like screws, drilling, and nut's and bolts etc, yet has the power to really snug things up or break 'em loose for what it is. Again, it's not an impact driver. It's a screw driver on steroids and does a fine job at drilling and general wrenching and makes for an acceptable replacement for the air-ratchet in the garage too. Again, it isn't high torque like an impact or even an air-ratchet, but it does well with most things and will certainly snug your nuts and bolts up in the garage. You're going to use a torque wrench to finalize things anyway, right? It's fast becoming my go-to driver because it's lite weight and compact enough to fit nicely in the hand and get in places my full size power drivers and impacts can't. Batteries seem to last a long time. Of course you should always have backups and aftermarket batteries for the Bosch line of power tools are cheap and last just as long! I own a BOSCH PS11-102 12V Max 3/8 inch right angle Drill/Driver as well, and between the two of them I couldn't be happier! I can get everything I need done except the heavy duty stuff, which is why I have the Rigid tools when needed. I love my Bosch power tools and would replace them with new ones in a heartbeat if they came up missing. They fit that niche between the little 3 and 4 volt electric screw drivers, and the 20 volt heavy impacts. Another thing about Bosch that I noticed, is the cases that come with their power tools are roomy enough to put a few extra bits and batteries in so you don't have them hangin' around in your truck or tool box, but small enough to carry to the job site without needing a wheel barrel or a forklift. Getchya some needed Bosch power tools. Ya won't send 'em back! ;-)

Note: The model name of this line of Bosch screwdrivers/drills is "12V Max." Not be confused that 12 volt is maximum power or whatever. I have been using battery powered screwdrivers for about 25 years. (Some powerful enough to use as a drill.) I decided to update my screwdrivers because 1) My old beast of a screwdriver pooped out, would not hold a charge, and batteries were no longer available for it; and 2) My Black & Decker (four X AA battery powered) cordless screwdrivers could handle many jobs, but those drivers are not powerful nor versatile enough for bigger jobs (e.g., driving large screws into 2 X 4 or thick plywood). With this intent I went sniffing on Amazon and YouTube to find the best screwdriver suited to my needs and requirements, that is, for DIY household use, not for a profession (e.g., carpenter, plumber, contractor, electrician, handyman). While researching and shopping I could simply have stuck to the professional drivers/drills, you know the names. A sticking point, however, I didn't want to pay $150 to $200 for driving screws every now and then, or drilling a hole every other month, if that. Moreover, I have small hands (glove size is always men's small). While the big drivers are impressive beasts, my mini-digits get tired of holding those, especially if overhead or arms extended. Yes, in these situations SIZE DOES MATTER. What sold me on this Bosch "12V Max" screwdriver / drill (PS21-2A): - High ratings, solid reviews on YouTube and Amazon. This screwdriver received high marks everywhere. Yes, there were occasional complaints, but if product star ratings on Amazon indicate an average of four stars or higher, a few scattered complaints don't factor into my buying decision. (And often times those complaints border on moronic, stupid, or nonsense. E.g., "After five hours straight use on a house remodel I was doing the battery crapped out.") - Compact size: If you're looking for a small lightweight, but nevertheless powerful battery powered screwdriver, this Bosch does not disappoint. At age 67 I'm in reasonably good shape. But I'm not fooling myself. I can no longer comfortably use manual screwdrivers, and I definitely feel the pain when holding extended or above my head a large heavy power screwdriver. When I read that this driver was very compact and lightweight I no longer would settle on even a mid-sized screwdriver. (See my pics, comparing the size of this screwdriver next to U.S. dollar bills.) - Two batteries: This was VERY PLEASING to me, that this kit comes with two (02) lithium ion batteries. Plenty of power for all-day DIY jobs. Warning: What some companies do to market their consumer screwdrivers at a low consumer-friendly price is to sell the powered driver SEPARATE from the batteries. You have to buy the batteries separately, or buy the higher priced set or kit that includes a battery and charger. Pleasing Price: My budget was $60-90 for a screwdriver, battery, and charger. Because it totally sucks to run out of battery power, I allotted another $30 to purchase an additional battery. So I was super pleased to see the retail price for this device was $80 for the screwdriver, TWO (02) lith ion batteries, AC charger, carrying case, and a couple bits. With free Amazon Prime shipping, I was at $40 UNDER budget. Note: I never buy on price alone. E.g., eBay and Amazon are littered with $30-40 trashy as-seen-on-TV screwdrivers that include battery. Bonus Tip: You may rest easy because El Cheapo branded screwdrivers are guaranteed: "[W]hen charging your battery it is warranted to catch fire and burn down your house." Quality Name: I trust the Bosch brand, even though like everything else, this driver is Made in (Asia). Despite that, to protect its reputation for quality and the Bosch name the brand represents, I assume in Bosch has strict quality controls. Recourse: I liked the fact that buying from or via Amazon gave me access to a full refund if I didn't like the product, or simply changed my mind. Functionality and Features: The 12V Max has everything you want in a drill or screwdriver. Has the power to drill most anything, or to drive/remove the biggest screws in the hardiest of materials. This is what I would call a "precision driver." Features that stand out: - Small, compact, lightweight. - Smooth precise motor and driver gearing. - Speed control (via the trigger switch). - Precision power controls: A two-speed switch; the trigger (the more you press, the more power delivered); and the clutch (1-19, and drill setting). You can set this driver/drill for delicate work, or place everything on full power for the big tasks. - Note about the Clutch (settings 1 to 19, and drill mode). "1" is lowest, "least power" setting, "19" is highest, "most powerful" setting. For max power dialing the clutch to the indicated drill bit icon. Bonus Tip: Why the clutch? You use the it to prevent stripping screw or bolt threads, or damaging the head (e.g., stripping the slots), or damaging the working surface. E.g., on a "1" setting the driver will lightly screw or unscrew the a bolt, and make a clicking sound to show the driving has stopped. - Quality throughout: The fit and finish of everything in this kit is finely done. This is NOT your cheap plastic, poorly fitting, breakdown-in a-month-screwdriver. - Lot of Nice Stuff: Included in this kit is the screwdriver, two batteries, an AC charger, canvas carrying case (that holds everything), two hex-head screwdriver bits, and easy-to-read manual. The LED light is a nice touch. I actually used the light to see inside an car engine bay when removing a part. - Note: This screwdriver uses hex-head bits. This makes it very easy to attach and remove bits. If you have standard drill bits you want to use, you can buy a hex head adapter that has a drill chuck for standard drill bits.

This Bosch drill/driver has been one of my favorite tools, not only because of its smaller dimensions, but also because it has the performance capabilities that equals or exceeds larger and higher voltage drills that I have owned. The variable speed trigger has a good predictable linear response that enables the torque of the motor to be applied in exactly the intended amount and makes slow starts under varied loads easy. When releasing the trigger, the drill stops instantly. The two speed transmission engages positively and has never slipped out of gear because of vibration as some other drills I have owned. The 12 volt battery seems to provide more than enough power for any around-the-house projects and recharges in less than 30 minutes, although I have never had to change batteries in the middle of jobs because of loss of power. The spring loaded bit chuck holds bits securely and does not cause driver bits to wobble, although there is some very minor wobble when using hex drill bits. Any minor wobble on drill bits is far less than I have experienced with other quick change chucks and bits I have used and would not cause a problem unless attempting to drill very precise positioned holes in metal. While this driver is of smaller and very practical size, it does not have the feel of a lessor quality tool. In fact, I was surprised at the heft and solid feel of the tool. I am not easily impressed by power tools because I have found drawbacks in almost all that I have owned. However, this Bosch drill/driver has continued to impress me over the last 18 months so much that I bought another to give to my son for Christmas because he was also impressed with mine when using it on the many jobs he has had to do in his new house. I suppose that if one has major construction projects requiring the drilling of hundreds of holes or installing hundreds of screws in a day, one might want a heavier duty higher voltage tool, but for less regular jobs requiring convenience of bit changes, a smaller drill that will fit into tight spaces, high performance and surprising long battery life and power, I recommend this Bosch tool without hesitancy.

It's light, it's powerful, it's excellent. Buy one and you'll see the difference. I've owned mine for about six months now and it's the tool I reach for the most often. I got this after a string of cordless screwdriver failures. I would always buy the "Father's Day Special" $20-$40 cordless screwdriver from the hardware store, and these work great for a while. Over time, though, the batteries tend to go, and you find yourself in the driveway on Christmas day, assembling something your mother-in-law bought for the kids. The battery in your cordless screwdriver's dead, and nobody's willing to take "no" for an answer. I was fed up, so I picked up one of these as a replacement. I can't stop singing its praises. First of all, it's small and light. It's probably half the weight of my previous cordless drills/screwdrivers. This means a lot when you've got your hands over your head to hang curtains or a ceiling fan. The size means that it fits into my pocket or the hammer loop on my carpenter jeans. It also fits perfectly into my tool belt's holster. It's also powerful, with a great battery and charger. At low clutch levels, I can use it to unscrew the battery doors on the kids' toys. At higher clutch levels, I can drill into drywall, plywood, and studs. I've only ever needed the lower of the two speed settings. The battery charges fast with the included quick-charger, and having two means that I can run it continuously all day if needed. The quick-change 1/4" chuck is nice, even if it's not universal. I picked up some compatible drillbits and a magnetic bit holder, which is usually good enough for most jobs. Since this chuck is pretty common, finding parts that fit it is relatively easy. You can buy what you need and feel confident that you can get more bits at any hardware store. I can't say it enough - this is my favorite tool, and it's saved me time and effort in almost every job I've used it on. It's well worth the cost and should be a no-brainer addition to anyone's DIY toolbox.

I bought one of these along with the very similar drill version in Dec 2013 for use in my commercial shop. It is now Nov 2024 and both are still being used regularly INCLUDING the 4 original batteries. This driver has received almost daily use for 11 years and is still working great. I've had a lot of cordless tools over the years and can't think of any where both the tool and batteries are still good after more than a decade of use. This is an absolutely outstanding tool. The feature that often gets overlooked on something like this is the accuracy and sensitivity of the clutch. Most drills do not have a clutch that can be reliably used on small screws without stripping the holes. This guy can drive even tiny things like #6x1/2" screws in soft wood all day long with the perfect torque. It is small enough to fit in tight spaces; the lack of a chuck combined with a short bit make the overall length very short. Despite being lightweight and compact, it is extremely durable and never feels fragile. It has a nice fat grip that fits perfectly in the hand. The trigger pull allows for a wide range of speed variation for good control. The batteries, despite their tiny size, last a really long time. We frequently use it with a 1/4 or 3/8" socket adapter to quickly thread fasteners in or out during assembly operations. A couple years ago we replaced all of our cordless drills with new 12V brushless Milwaukees. I love the power and high RPM of these units. However, they now have an electronic rather than mechanical clutch. That clutch is absolutely worthless on almost everything. It basically cuts the power at a specific torque, which sounds great in theory. But unlike a mechanical clutch, it doesn't instantly stop the torque. The spin-down time of the motor before full stop means that unless you're going really slow, anything you'd want to use a clutch on will strip out before it stops turning. As a result, this Bosch driver has become even more popular as the brushless Milwaukees are now exclusively drill-only use. Now I'm back to buy a few more of these driver and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a quality clutch for their operations.

I like this driver. Quality is great and it can deliver a surprising amount of power. It is extremely light to hold as compared to similar models. I have 2 minor problems with it. The lowest torque setting is a little higher than I would like it to be. I have to be very careful on smaller screws. It already ripped a few heads off on setting 1. The other issue is that I wish the batteries would last longer. They don't die fast, but I think they should last longer than they do. I didn't remove a star for this since it comes with 2 batteries and a charger. All in all, it's the best product I've tried for my uses: electronics. I mostly use it for removing and installing covers that have a lot of screws. I would recommend this product over any other for my purposes. If you want a little more power, go with the Rigid 12v driver. It, too has adjustable torque and the batteries last a very long time. It is much more powerful than this Bosch, but it is much heavier, too. I bought the Rigid for my uses with electronics but I ended up trying the Bosch and I was going to return the Rigid, but I kept it because it such a cool little driver for only being a 12v.

Yes, I just bought one..... Why? I gave my old one to my daughter because it was easier to give it to her than check my luggage to bring it home. After all the years of use, it still worked like a charm. This one has the exact same feel as the old one... and the batteries are interchangeable with the older model - which gives me 6 batteries (not that I ever need all of them....) I have three of this series of tools.... an impact driver, an adjustable angle head drill driver, and this tool. The batteries are interchangeable.... and they last. My only caveat is don't run the batteries down to zero charge so they overheat and keep them inside when not in use so they don't freeze or get hot. Also... don't leave them on the charger. Charge them up and take them off. The compact size of this tool is it's most obvious feature, but it's also powerful. I used the old one to completely remodel a house... one screw / hole at a time. It fits into other places where a larger tool will not.... drawer glides, hinges, inside drawers to mount the drawer fronts..... and where it doesn't fit, my adjustable angle head version does. The impact is plenty powerful and I prefer it to the Milwaukee that I have. The speed trigger is more sensitive on the Bosch.... the Milwaukee -- although variable speed - seems like it's pretty much on/off - not the slow buildup required for certain applications. Overall, I think this is a great tool.... if I didn't, I wouldn't have bought another one.

I love Bosch tools. I've had nothing but great luck with them so when I needed a small pocket driver to fit into tight spaces, I chose this guy. Am I keeping it? No. I'll get to "why" shortly. First, let's talk about it. The tool has an LED light to help you see what you're doing and two gears from which to choose. (They sound the same but, like a car, one is slower with more torque while the other is faster with less torque.) So far, so good. I love the quick release system. Some complain that it allows bits to wobble a little. True. But no more than any other tool that uses this system. If this is a problem for you, select a driver with a chuck. For me, it's perfect. Not everything is perfect though. There's no battery level indicator on the batteries or the tool itself. And the case is nothing special. It looks nice. Seems well made. But it's not clear to me how it is supposed to work. It will hold your drill in place but the other random straps seem...random. If you're going to carry other stuff, expect most of it to flop around inside unless something just happens to fit under a strap. I've seen some complaints about sparks inside the rear of the housing. This is normal for a tool with brushes. They are not a cause for concern unless they're shooting out the handle at you. And a few older reviews have talked about difficulty removing the batteries. I've had no issues at all. Maybe there has been a re-design. Alternatives: I tried a couple alternatives. The first was the new DeWalt DCF601 Brushless Screwdriver. It is brushless—no sparks, if that matters to you—and over an inch shallower (narrower?) than this Bosch. As a result, it fits into tighter spaces. It is also taller with a wide battery attached to the bottom that allows users to stand it on end. The design also makes the DeWalt a little more balanced in the hand. And the three bright LEDs positioned surrounding the drill head are much brighter than the Bosch. They stay on for a while after the trigger is released. All-in-all a very impressive tool that would be a great choice if all you wanted was a screwdriver. Its downside is that it only has one gear with a relatively low maximum speed. It's fast enough for driving screws but I'm not so sure about drilling. The second alternative is another Bosch that is almost exactly the same size as this one but *dramatically* more flexible in terms of what it can do because the head can be changed out. As a result, it useful in a variety of scenarios that would be difficult for a more traditional design. The model number is GSR12V-140FCB22. It is an upgrade to this Bosch in many ways, including a battery level indicator and a brighter LED that, like the DeWalt, stays lit for a while after the trigger is released. Its killer feature, though, is the ability to switch out and even combine the four included head options. This model was my choice and is well on its way to becoming one of my favorite tools.

Best drill for one hand use- light and can be used with one hand. - cant imagine being without it

It took me a long while and a lot of research before I chose this specific compact drill/driver. I had a list of specifications that I wanted met which had narrowed the list quite a bit. I find this tool to be about as perfectly balanced and sized as anyone could want. This has a size compact enough for a woman or a child to use easily also with their smaller hands. A problem I have heard from my friends and people teaching kids to use power tools safely. The tool is robust and the clutch actually works, which is more than I can say for many other cordless drivers and drills. The dual speed gear setting is an absolute MUST for anyone choosing such a tool. Also you will want to invest in a good set of 1/4" drive bits and accessories. There are many quality ones to choose from. I use this tool primarily for assembly and disassembly on electronics devices so the fine and precise speed control was a must also. Most tools this size do not have enough torque to safely apply power to small screws. Cheaper (less quality) tools will require you to squeeze the power trigger more than you need which often strips out the bit or screw heads. The Bosch PS21-2A has plenty of power and so you have adequate control and stability when performing precise jobs. I give this tool a full FIVE STARS!

These are the best cordless screwdriver I have ever used and being a computer technician I have seen lots of them. The quality is amazing and I expect this will last forever. You could also use it for a drill if you have drills with the hex fitting on the end. The torque setting is perfect for working on computers or laptops. Li-Ion battery lasts and lasts and the light is helpful as well. They may be pricey but you will not need to replace this for a very long time. Not much more to say!
