As a watch collector I had wanted to buy a Laco pilot-type watch for some time. The Laco packaging is very good and the watch is a great everyday piece with interesting history. The design is all about clarity and it does that very well.

This does seem a quirky design for a modern day watch,well it would were it not for the fact that this is a reproduction of a WW2 navigator or observer's watch manufactured by one of the five original suppliers to the then german luftwafe.The size of 42.43millimetres is actually scaled down from the original 55 millimetres as the watch was designed to be worn over a heavy flying suit and used by the navigatorfor flight timings using dead reckoning.The watch comes in several versions and price points,some of them eye wateringly expensive.This version utilises the miyota 8215 automatic mechanical movement which is a good workhorse unit used by many good watch makers.The luminosity of this watch is one of the best i've seen,back in WW2 they used radium which doesn't need exposure to light as it is aradioactive element which glows in the dark at a constant rate.The current luminous material does and one minute of exposure to a bright light source will keep it glowing nicely for a couple of hours at least.Time keeing is very good and is no problem at all,my go to bed and glow in the dark favourite!!The leather strap is both robust andcomfortale to wear but give it time to break in,i see so many reviews of different watches moaning about the strap quality having only usedit a couple of times.It requires a minimum of three months for robust straps to soften up.

First of all, it's a lovely looking watch.I prefer the type B look, rather than the type A.In day to day use, I put a NATO strap on it.For dress use, I will use the leather one.Since I bought the watch, it has gained 32 seconds.This, in my eyes is nothing, and equates to less than 2 seconds a day.More than satisfactory.Brilliant in fact.I highly recommend LACO products.Delivery was fast too.

Something of a novice when it comes to owning automatic watches (this is my first such watch). Very pleased with my purchase. The watch came in a nice box. I have only had it for a few days. The numbers and dials glow well in the dark. What appealed to me about these German pilot ('fleiger') watches is their simple, non-cluttered design layout, making it easy to read the time on them. The watch face is a good size (diameter) for me; not too small or too large. The leather strap being new is a bit tight and rigid, but I presume that with wear it will soften. The only thing that it is somewhat challenging is setting highly accurate time, ie to the nearest second, given that it does not have a hack mechanism. Too early to say how good it is at accurately keeping the time. Despite the fact it could be described as Laco's 'entry level' model to suit a low budget, I nonetheless think it is a very attractive watch that appears to be a good replica (and quite an accurate historic reproduction) of the original models dating from WW2.
