Thomastik Dominant 4/4 Violin String Set - Medium Gauge - Aluminum/Steel Ball-End E

When I first played the strings, I have to say that I was unimpressed. I was upgrading from D'Adarrio Prelude strings so I was hoping these would sound phenomenally better. But they didn't. However, after getting over my initial disappointment, I realized that they had a much better response. Vibrato sounded better without me having to work as hard and it's a lot easier to do intonation by ear now. Also, tone consistency across the 4 strings is really good. Another thing that should be said is that they really bring out the inherent tone of the violin, which in my case isn't so great because I just have a cheap, beginner violin that sounds mediocre; but if you have a really nice violin, that you love the sound of then I would highly recommend these.However, there is not a certain "tone." These strings are advertised as sounding "warm, complex, and mellow." They definitely do not sound particularly warm or complex, but I think I would agree with mellow.BOTTOM LINE: These strings are really nice, but don't expect a tonal change---these are probably the most "vanilla" sounding strings you can buy. But if I were you, I would buy Pirastro Tonicas. They're $15-$20 cheaper and probably just as good.

These strings are kind of the strings I go with for my violin and they sound pretty good. I am a beginner so the sound really doesn't matter as much when I am playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star but they are better than what I usually use which are cheap and almost sound like banjo strings. I did notice out of the package they sound almost metallic and the E string always sounds to sharp when compared to the other. These will probably be the strings I go with since I have been through quite a few trying to find a good brand. So far price wise these are still the best and they have lasted me a good while. On the subject of price breaking one brand new is a moment of dread and tears (not really) but also relief when I do it right since I am not loaded with cash and I have to do all my violin stuff mostly myself so I am extra cautious. Not having much money to work with has actually made me better at restringing and any violin work even though there are some things I can't do. These strings may be costly but not as bad as they could be even though when I get better I will probably upgrade to better strings. Overall I think I will stick with the Dominant brand for a while in my beginner days since they do a good job.

The A string seems a little bright to me. The upgraded E string seems okay. The G and D have a mellow sound I prefer. I was using Helicore before with a gold plated E. Might add I am a novice fiddler.

I have ordered Thomastik Dominant 4/4 Violin String Set from this seller many times. I do not play and I do not know very much about the strings. My daughter is a senior high and the first violinist in her school. This name, Thomastik Dominant, was first introduced to me by her violin teacher. My daughter has one full size student violin and one fully size very expensive violin which at least reached to the low end of the professional violin quality lever with a very expensive bow. I asked her violin teacher about the String Set I ordered. The teacher said the strings were fresh and in very good condition. My daughter is also OK with the strings. Every time as soon as she changes to the new string set, the sounds of the playing are dramatically nicer and amazingly better. She said this to me many times. My daughter is using this brand for both of her violins at the moment and she is happy with them. I have not got any trouble with the seller. The deliveries are always on time.

Love the strings, but they need some time to break in. After just installed, sound is garbage, but after ~5-7h playing they become awesome.

Thomastik dominant strings are my go-to for professional playing. They are the most consistent in high quality tone and last for many months!

As a member of several small orchestral groups and performer of solo work, I rather like these strings. Although the steel E string is rather bright and sharp, you can substitute of of Dominant's wound E strings that have a warmer tone. If you have trouble projecting your sound or have a naturally quiet instrument, then these strings will help your sound to carry farther and improve your tone.
