Q: How difficult is the assembly?

For the unit I received it was impossible to assemble as the screw holes were not big enough so could not put it together at all I will be returning it

Q: This box needs a battery for the lock. Will the batteries still work in cold weather states?

Yes, the box does use batteries for the keypad. As for cold weather states, my father-in-law used to keep all of his extra batteries in the freezer and they always worked fine. Even taking them directly out of the freezer and putting them in a product that needed new batteries. Also, there are keys included if you were to have any issues with the battery not working.

Q: What kind of metal is this? How thick is the metal?

I don't know what kind it is but it's heavy-duty! You'll be surprised of the quality for the price. Very sturdy and heavy

Q: Can i simply leave the top open on the day of delivery so no one else knows my code for access? would that wear out the batteries?

Yes, you certainly can, but there are a couple of caveats. The first is weather. As long as the box is in a protected area, you won't have to worry about it getting wet inside if it's raining or snowing. If not, that could be a problem until the delivery arrives. The box has a solid bottom, so water could accumulate in it. Secondly, your solution only works if you have only one delivery for the day from one carrier. If you've got two or more delivery companies involved in a single day, then someone will have to know the code in order to leave their packages, since the first one will (hopefully) close the lid after they've delivered theirs.
