FULI Japanese Futon Mattress (King)

I have purchased seven FULI futons since 2022. The top reason I keep coming back to the FULi is that I can customize my sleeping environment and feel better for it. I had a neck fusion surgery and the doctors all noted that when you alter one part of your spine, the other parts will change too. And so years of back and hip problems followed. I tried tempurpdeic mattresses and all levels of caspers and sealys… all trying to find the right comfort. I just wanted to wake up not hurting. You know, the first foot on the floor and that moment you stand up- it changes how your day will be. I came across the FULI system when outfitting a condo in 2022. I needed a bed that would also be a yoga/sretch space and so bought 2 FULIs. I ended sleeping on these instead and loved every night. They were firmer but when I woke up and took my first steps, I was better for it. This last month, I made the major decision to return to FULI in a hardcore way. I purchased 5 king sized FULI’s and 3 covers. I use the FULI mat as well. This is my current dream set up- I have 3 stacked FULI’s in my primary bedroom. I use a mattress cover over the stack. With a duvet on top, they are my dream sleep inducing princess in a pea stack of loveliness. Seriously, it is the best. I live on an island and we have wonderful breezes. Can you take your mattress outside and let it air in nature and then easily move it back in? I can. I feel healthier and pampered. I am planning to make sunbrella outdoor fabric duvet covers for them so that I can tear one off the bed and take it outside to read under a tree if I want, or lay in the sun. A luxurious picnic blanket even. They are foldable and a king folded makes a dreamy floor cushion. These are just wonderful. Flexible use, a great price for the quality, a super step to wellness, completely customizable and a great way to feel better about sleep and the next day. You can store them easily in the vacuum bags they arrive in, or roll them in their covers for an attractive and useful guest bed. You can travel with them. The king sized FULI’s is exactly a king size and will fit any foundation you already have or any platform or foundation you will buy. Oh and the kicker- the new foam mattresses on the market are one sided and so you can only rotate them to the same two spots. If they start to sag, you are done. The FULI can be flipped, rotated, offering 4 times the lasting power and when I take mine out to air, they become even fresher and make me feel pampered in a healthy way all over again. And, I take comfort in knowing that should my needs change, my FULI’s can change with them.

This futon mattress is incredible!! I actually find it more comfortable and supportive than my new, more expensive memory foam mattress. It's ideal for those with chronic back pain, especially if it's low back pain. After browsing tons of mediocre looking options for a guest mattress/sofabed/futon, I landed on this product and couldn't ignore the many positive reviews. So I went for it and found out that it's absolutely worth every penny. I recently had a friend stay at my new apartment and he was extremely satisfied with his sleeping arrangements, on the carpeted hard floor of my living room. Me? I was a little jealous! This mattress is thick, fluffy, soft, yet very firm and supportive, there was no strange smell, it's easy to open up (doesn't take long at all to expand), and it rolls up to store in your closet. The only issue for me is that even though it does roll up (with some effort), it's thick and it takes up a good chunk of space. It's totally hogging closet space right now and it doesn't really bend or fold into a smaller space, so if you have very limited space it could be an issue. The quality and comfort are amazing, the stitching is impeccable, and I'm considering using it as a mattress topper to improve the comfort of my own bed. It's really the best mattress I've ever tried! My back never felt better than when I was laying on it. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made off of Amazon, and that's saying a LOT. You won't be disappointed!

I don't know shikibuton from shinola, but I love this floor mattress. We got it as a place to sleep when we visit our kid. My husband likes very firm mattresses, and I wanted something that could be put away with ease....so my son wasn't stuck with a monstrosity. I abhor air mattresses. They shake every time someone moves, they get holes so easy (even the nice ones), the "sound" of the plastic even when it is covered is like nails on a chalkboard, and they still aren't cheap. I will never get another one. So, I took a chance on this shikibuton. It's pricey, no doubt, but it is made very well. The quality can be seen in the stitching, finishing, and materials used. We had great nights sleep and felt very comfortable. We bought a cover to go along with it, and that worked great! My husband would rather we sleep on this at home as well. We are thinking about getting rid of our guest bed and putting THIS in the guest room so that when we don't have guests we have a lot more square feet to use in our home. I love this shikibuton, and if we need another one, I will not hesitate to get another of the same. So far the mattress stays fluffed and full. I do flip it every night and let it stand up during the day to get air on all sides. I have had a back problem for a long time, and I definitely felt relief using this mattress.

Arrived on time and had it air dry for one day. Mattress is really only 3 inches which is not much. I have on top of wood frame with tatami mats. The first week I could feel the frame through the mattress and tatami mats. Now I do not. I sleep like a baby! With years of back pain. I wanted a firm mattress. So far after sleeping on it for about a month, I havent had any back pain. I wish it was just a tad thicker. There are thicker shikibutons which I believe would be more comfortable. But you do get used to it fast! As they say.. too soft a mattress with little or no support is bad for the spine and makes your body weaker. A firm mattress hardens the body and keeps the spine aligned. Of course there are more expensive western mattresses that are far superior. Quality is very well done! Doesnt feel like it will rip. A full size is difficult to fold up in a closet for storage. I put mine out on the railing of the porch in the sun for a couple hours to help fluff it. But I dont have a place to store to put it away when not in use. So I keep it on the bed frame which also turns into a couch. Im happy with what I got going on. I did extensive research on these before I purchased. I love the Japanese culture and for them to still sleep on the floor with tatami mats. I must try it. I am not dissapointed! Though i enjoy it very much, I want it to last for at least 5 years. After that or when I feel its time for something new I probably will get something different. But for a classic Japanese bedstyle, I am extremely satisfied! Have to try at least once!

2021 update!: i got this back in 2017 and loved it. Now, faced with a new series of moves coming up I bought it again. Tatami mat, too! I notice no smell, it's as soft as it was four years ago and I am so happy to have it again. :) the tatami do usually have a grassy smell. But they're made of grass so I adore it. Also I forgot it comes with a little oragami crane. I just really enjoy the products. No lie. I've been sleeping on this since December (The end of February now!) So far, I really like it. It's what I expected. If you're expecting to get this and sleep in the height of comfort, on a cloud of angel wings soaring over a cool field of prairie grass, you're misguided! I will be blunt! I rated this 5 stars because it's what I was looking for. It's a thin mat that I can fold up and move out of the way. I got the tatami mat to go with it! (I recommend it) I didn't notice any smell like others said.. The first few nights were really lovely, considering prior to that I was sleeping directly on the floor. It flattens out fairly quickly, so you'll want to make sure you hang it out, or expose the mattress to sunlight, at least once a week. I know it says monthly, but better safe than sore! You will not see any health benefits to sleeping on this, instead of a cushiony bed. This is pure practicality. It keeps you up off the floor, provides enough cushion for a good night's sleep and can be folded and tucked away with ease! I love it! Another thing I will tell you about floor sleeping, if you're thinking about doing it for the first time; It's just fine. But the day you lay on a raised bed, or even the couch-futon style mattress, you WILL have an appreciation of it. Holy cow. I laid on a bed the other day and thought my spine saw God. It was amazing.. BUT AGAIN; I love my futon and tatami mat, it suits me. It's not for everyone. This is basically the same area as a Queen mattress when laid out. I am 6' -170lbs and find it great!

Ok first i will talk about the positives... no i won't. Just don't buy this futon. The grass mattress is ok although very thin, you can get a thicker one for about same price. But lets say you want to put it on the floor on a soft carpet, then it's ok. This futon however, just don't buy it. Read the reviews. It's very thin, the middle polyester padding is practicaly non existent, i had to have a topper under it but that would all be ok if it wasn't for THE SMELL. We got the whole set of the mattress, futon and cover and we were so excited to sleep on it, it took couple of nights to adjust to it and since day one my husband was walking around smelling potatoes. It became a thing after like two days of him mentioning he smells potatoes. At that time i didn't really smell anything but then one day boom i smelled potatoes and we started searching what is it coming from.... It was the futon. Many people describe the futon smells bad and has mold in it. Ours didn't have a visible mold or anything but the potato smell grew every day to the point that my husband woke up with a migraine and i had a rash. So no i do not recommend. Hope this will helps someone, do not buy this. We are returning, we found another option for same price from better materials.

It's thickness is perfect in a proper setup. If you need it thicker you probably just need a thicker tatami mat. The cotton holds up well to wear, compressing evenly. If you have odor, thats probay cause you haven't been cleaning it right, It's as easy as hanging it over a rope outside. It is just supportive enough for hypermobile people to help build better posture and realign joints, while improving circulation. In other words it's absolute heaven on aching joints Plus, I can finally sleep on my front again!

Si buscas un colchón para dormir en plano esta es la opción perfecta. Tengo 1 semana durmiendo en el y la verdad es exactamente lo que quería desde hace años. Lo uso directametne sobre la base de madera y es como dormir en el suelo pero con un soporte ligero y suficiente para que mi espalda se relaje y realmente descanse toda la noche. Recomendadísimo. Si necesitas un poco de suavidad extra, puedes comprar una base de tatami que acompañe al futón, hay algunas opciones bastante accesibles aquí en Amazon.

I read a lot of amazing reviews on this matters and was really impress before buying. So… this is all true. Really amazing mattress. It’s thinner then usual like from IKEA. But it’s amazing, soft to lay on and have good dreams. We are using it already 6 months, everything perfect. Truly recommend

If you like a firm mattress, this one is very firm. I like it. It likes to go out into the sun, and it's easy to fold up and take outside - try doing that with a standard queen size mattress.
