Tried mounting this today and no matter how hard i tighten the screws this is still loose on the rail. Is this normal? I need it to be tight.

Make sure that both “lips” are seated over the 1913 rail and that the rod is properly seated. It is possible the thread is stripped, however if this isn’t the case you can add loctite threadlocker for a more secure attachment. Obviously no one wants to mount a camera worth several hundred dollars to a mount that isn’t secure, so if this continues to be an issue I wanted contact the seller for a replacement.

Would this work for a range finder with the right adapter?

It very well could . I mount multiple Runcams to it without issue .

Will this mount hold the GoPro Hero 7?

I cannot speak for the Hero 7, however, unless the mount has changed, it should attach in the same gopro “two prong into three prong” mount.
