A wondeful product not found in stores...
I had a few months to shop casually for a portable heater like this one, and I went to every local sporting goods store I could find, as well as Wal-Mart and Target, to give local retailers a chance to make the sale with me.As it turned out, some of the more "hardcore" outdoors retailers, such as "REI Co-op", and Turner's Outdoors had only one brand (REI) or no brands (Turner's Outdoors) to sell. Wal-Mart only had the Coleman brand, and many other sporting goods stores had NOTHING to show in the way of a heater. Many of the current retailers lack of inventory offering which is supposedly saving them from carrying "dead stock" or "slow movers" is merely weaning cusomers OFF of the store-based retail format, and ONTO the Internet as a first-choice retail format for buying goods.I rate this heater and it's versatility a 5+. It has nothing to wear out, it's made entirely of steel, it has an adjustable heat range, it can be very HOT, and when flipped around, it can heat a pot of water in short order. I used it for heat, as well as heating a pot of water for an outside early morning swapmeet venue, and it worked great. I will look forward to using it on my next camping trips for late evening poker games on the outside picnic table...

Nice heater
Uses a little more propane than I expected but it works just fine

Garbage
It would not stay lit when standing-up as a heater (thermocoupler seemed to be defective). Did not put out very much heat. Amazon did not want to take it back (outside the return window). DON'T DO IT!

Well, you see how the tank goes straight up and down in the picture? Mine sticks out to the right at a 45 degree angle.A blind man could have done a better job. When you flip it for use as a stove, it's not level. Please note that none of these things will stop this item from doing it's job. It's just a damn shame that producers don't care about quality so long as they get paid. After using this heater for roughly 30 hours, it just stopped working. I'm not happy! It seems the more I buy from Amazon, the more I spend time writing bad reviews. They love to take your money but when it comes to quality, no one is home!

mis-q on assembly
shipping was on time but when doing the assembly of the heater to the holding bracket it will not stay in the slots and the bracket was welded to the heater so it does not fit in the holder properly. the heater should sit upwright. It fit into the stand and falls to one side until the propane bottle supports the whole heater assembly.

Works Perfectly!
After doing some research on heaters for high altitude camping, we decided to purchase this heater, despite the other reviews. It has been a great heater for us! Any noise that this heater makes while operating isn't at all annoying or loud. It stayed lit without any problems (you have to hold in the red gas valve until it catches) and it kicks out a LOT of heat. We've used it with the small propane cylinders, as well as with a hose and large propane tank. It's fairly small and very light-weight so it does well being stored in our pop-up camper. We have not used it as a "cooker," just for heat, so we can't comment on how it does in that operation. But most important for us, we haven't had any problems with it operating in the mountains at 7500 feet. We do have to caution our children when it is on so that they are aware of it and don't get too close.

Four Stars
Perfect in my Deer stand...only missing an igniter. Should be upgraded with an igniter. Other than that great product

A must for camping
First, great care needs to be taken to avoid snapping the copper piece connecting to the burner, but if you're mindful of this then you won't have a problem. The components are very basic, so one would be able to take it apart to clean it.Second, it tends to tip rather easily. We use a steel plate to give it weight and keep it balanced. We've used this only a handful of time, but it's been AWESOME. Before buying this, we would freeze and huddle together at night when camping in the mountains, but not even on full blast it heats our 6 person tent in no time. Depending on the temperature, we usually go through one small tank each night. I really recommend having an extra just in case.On nights that have been really cold we've also used this to toast marshmallows with much success.
