Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 "The New York Studio Legacy Series" is a complete overhaul of the original dfh Superior engine. The Toontrack team made painstakingly sure not to lose any of the sound quality, attention to detail, and musicality of their popular drum sampler.Superior Drummer 2.0 has been redeveloped for optimized use with e-drums with more effective use of sample layers and much improved loading times. It includes custom MIDI played by Nir Z accessed through its new customized MIDI engine and arranger, EZplayer Pro, and has standalone capacity through Toontrack solo. Premium UK-based software developer Sonalksis has outfitted the Superior 2.0 with a 5-band EQ, high and low pass filter, compressor, gate, and transient designer filters. The interface is reminiscent of EZdrummer with its simple handling and layout but gives the user layer upon layer of in-depth features to create the ultimate drum track.Superior Drummer 2.0's samples were recorded by Pat Thrall, Neil Dorfsman, and Nir Z at Hit Factory, Avatar Studios, and Allaire studios, NY. The three have worked with artists as diverse as Meatloaf, Celine Dion, Nick Lachey, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Beyonce, Björk, Kiss, Joss Stone, Genesis, John Mayer, and Chris Cornell.

Superior Indeed
I've been a BFD user for years and decided on somewhat of a whim to give Superior Drummer 2.0 a shot after my disappointment with BFD3.It installed easily on my Mac and right away it was available in Logic. I called up the default kit and began playing in seconds. I can't believe I've been missing these excellent sounding drums all these years. The improvement in the quality of the sampled sounds over BFD is huge. The sound of my projects instantly improved to full-on professional studio quality and as I go back and remix some of my old projects with SD2, I can't help but smile a little. The sounds are powerful, punchy and seem like a living, breathing instrument. Very little processing is necessary in my DAW to make these fit right in the mixes. My only gripe is I cannot pan some of the cymbal sounds, or if it's just a case of me not figuring out how yet, then subtract a star for lack of intuitiveness. Otherwise absolutely stellar product and solid, robust software with excellent GUI.

There are more expensive packages out there with better quality (and some with lesser quality) samples
While there are other capable drum packages out there, this one is certainly the king for user support, community, ease of use, and what you get for the price. There are more expensive packages out there with better quality (and some with lesser quality) samples, but you lose the abundance of great add-ons and kits. I'd certainly recommend Superior for going the next mile with your drum tones.

Perfect
I don't think that a lot of people understand that some people (like me) want more out of their drummer than what Tommy Lee or Peter Criss brought to the table. SD 2 IS my drummer now and I've had nothing but great playing and recording experiences with it since I started using it. The drums sound amazing, adding the dynamics to the midi map makes SD2 stand out as much as a living breathing drummer.

I USE IT ALMOST EXCUSIVELY, BUT I'M ANGRY THAT AMAZON LOWERED THE PRICE BY $20 AFTER MY PURCHACE
IT RECOMMENDS ALLOCATING 1200 MEGS OF RAM, BUT I HAD TO INCREASE TO 1600. YOU ALSO NEED EZ PLAYER PRO OR ANOTHER"HOST PROGRAM" TO GET IT TO BE A WORKING ADDITION TO YOUR MUSICAL INTERESTS. IT COMES WITH EZ DRUMMER VER.1 AND THE MIDI FILES IS SORT OF SMALL IN HOW MANY COMES WITH IT. TOONTRACKS WANTS YOU COMING BACK FOR THE"ADD ONS", WHICH THERE ARE PLENTY AND COVER ANY AND ALL MUSICAL VENUES. SO ITS A DOOR OPENER TO SOME "REAL" DRUMMER SOUNDS THAT CAN BE TUNED TO YOUR PREFERENCES WITH ALL THE CONTROL PUT IN A FAIRLY FRIENDLY PROCESS.

Very Satisfied
I received Superior Drummer 2.0 in the mail very quickly & it was very easy to install onto my computer. The software is very intuitive & I could pretty much figure out most of the controls myself. I use this software with a Roland V-Drum set which works flawlessly with it. The drum sounds are AMAZING & sound so real that you can almost forget that you're playing on an electronic drum set. I would recommend this to any drummer with a v-drum set & a computer! (and a MIDI interface)

This software can really change the way you play. having the options of different sounds kits for different style makes you want to try new things. I am running this on a old 2008 macbook and a roland module on my set.

Better than the others that I have used
I have only had it for a few weeks but it does give me better sound than I was getting from the standard drum simulator in Pro Tools.Pros: drum sound shaping and adjustment is cool.Cons: thought there would be more samples for the price.overall: i'm still getting up to speed with it but seems to be a good product

Stunning software, headache setup.
I bought this to add to my new digital studio as it has so many good reviews, however please bear with it as the install process is difficult.I've only recently turned to PC recording having used various portastudios over the years, and figured i'd try something a little simpler. PAH! Jeezo if you want simple buy an Ipad and get Garageband. It does all you need and you won't be pulling your hair out!! But as it was, i had a kickass PC that was feeling dejected after i gave up World of Warcraft (only made it to lvl 93 but thought enough was enough. Dreanor was lovely but i needed a break) and figured i should get creative.Stupid idea. The problem with PC recording (and why i stuck to portastudios) is that you need to spend weeks/months/years learning how to use all the new software and it really is off-putting when all i want to do is plug and play. The DAW i chose was Reaper, simply because it was cheap, good and had loads of youtube tutorial vids, and also as many Reaper users recommended Superior Drummer. What could possibly go wrong?Firstly do NOT download these discs straight away- you'll waste time. GO TO THE TOONTRACK WEBSITE, CREATE AN ACCOUNT AND START DOWNLOAD PROCESS FROM THERE!!!!!! Afterwards it was pretty simple and the stand alone player was ace. Then came the next problem. TOONTRACK PUT THE .dll FILE IN TOTALLY RANDOM PLACES- FIGURE WHERE IT WENT DURING DOWNLOADING, OR SEARCH ALL .dll FILES ON YOUR PC OTHERWISE IT WON'T SHOW IN REAPER!!!!Sorry, i don't like "shouting" in reviews, but if you heed this then you should avoid all the problems i had.Otherwise the sounds and flexibility of this software are incredible. It really is wonderfully adaptable and the sounds are clear and expressive. I've had experience in professional studios as a performer, and have witnessed severe ProTools mopping up of inaccurate drumming where a reaper plugin would have sufficed. It really is all you could ever need if you are unable to record a full drumkit.I'd give it a full 5* write up, but the pains from setting it up were numerous.

so having something to create my drum tracks on had to be easy to use and sound great
I am not a drummer, so having something to create my drum tracks on had to be easy to use and sound great. Luckily this meets the criteria! I use this as a plug in for my Pro Tools 11. Toontrack offer very good support and I had everything I needed in order to achieve compatibility with my machine and recording software. Highly recommended!

Fantastic Virtual Drum Kit
The product is unbelievably good for the money. Really straight-forward user interface, fantastic sounds, very flexible - one of my go-to music programs. Before this I used Native instruments Battery and thought it was good but Superior drummer blows it away. Brilliant
