Rowenta AccessSteam Cordreel Steam Iron for Clothes, Anti-Drip Protection, Clothes Iron with Steamer, DW2459U1

I had no idea what a good iron was until I spent a little money and purchased this. It is so great! It heats up super fast, irons incredibly well (I appreciate the weight so I don't have to press down too hard), doesn't get goopy (somehow, my old iron always got goop on it, which was a concern every time I had to use it due to the transfer concern), and shuts off automatically so you don't burn the house down. The steam function is fantastic -- no drippy water, just the right amount. Also, it looks really sleek -- like a serious piece of equipment. That's a minor point but these things are designed, and I appreciate the effort that was put into this one. I will leave it up to other reviewers to give a more in-depth analysis -- just wanted to put in my two cents based on decades of reluctant ironing until now.

I purchased the Rowenta DW2459 1725 watt Steam Iron black and brown. I’m an old geezer. I’ve done a little ironing in my time . I also own a steam press and a nice hand held steamer and used to have a stand alone pro steamer. I recently purchased a Van Husen “Wrinkle Free” shirt that has really been a challenge. After washing, it had a zillion wrinkles. My Steamer wouldn’t touch it. The shirt laughed at the Steam Press. I got out my old Sunbeam iron and it had given up the ghost. So after taking almost a whole day researching “pro” irons I settled on this Rowenta DW2459. It has all the same features of their top of the line models but this particular one is Made in France and still has the Shiny SS sole plate which many reviewers say they miss since the new top model Rowenta’s have a dull looking SS sole plate that does not glide over the fabric as easily. I’ve never used an iron this nice before. I knocked out that challenging wrinkled up shirt in no time. I was amazed at how easily the iron glides over the fabric. The steam output is even and just the right amount. So far I’ve not had to use the extra steam burst feature. The iron heats up really fast and the auto steam feature is perfect. On some irons after you sit them down to arrange your garment on the board there is a lag for the steam to catch up when you pick it up again. Not so with this Rowenta. It is bit heavier than most economical irons but for the most part that is a good thing since you don’t have to go over and over the same area. Once you sit it on the fabric it glides very easily over the fabric. It only takes one or two passes and the wrinkles are gone. It really speeds up your ironing time. It’s fairly easy to fill up with water and is made to use standard tap water. I hope this thing lasts because I’m very pleased with it. Now ironing is not as much of a chore as it used to be.

I had a Rowenta iron I bought 20 years ago. Last year it finally -- finally! -- began leaking. So I decided to go with another Rowenta. First, quality of materials. Maybe the body is stainless, but the buttons are not. There's a somewhat cheap feeling to it other than the weight. Second, the temperature button is difficult to see because it is behind the handle. Who thought that was a good idea? Third, this thing steamed out mineral flakes for two entire tanks of water. Even with the third, one showed up now and then. I recommend you iron unimportant things on the wrong side until your third tank of water. Then you can begin ironing more valuable clothing, but still the wrong side. Fourth, it does put out tons of steam. While the vertical position will throw off a lot of steam, a lot of steam, I found I still had to use so much that I was better off just putting the clothes on the ironing board and doing it that way. Fifth, it doesn't spit a lot, but it does spit occasionally. So be careful with things that mark, such as silks. Sixth, it's heavy, and it's bulky because of the cord storage in it. But the cord storage is worth it. All in all, I'm disappointed in Rowenta and expected the quality I was familiar with. It's probably better than your more common brand, but the quality of everything seems to have gone down.

This iron is absolute junk, especially considering what it costs and the fact that it is supposedly a high-end brand. I regret buying it. The biggest problem is that it constantly spits and leaks water while ironing. It does not matter whether the steam is turned on or completely off. It does not matter whether I touch the spray or steam buttons or deliberately keep my hand nowhere near them. If there is water in the reservoir, sooner or later this thing randomly spits out another blob of water and leaves a wet spot on whatever I am ironing. It is incredibly frustrating. I will get a shirt almost completely finished, and just as I am about to be done, another blob of water comes out. Then I have to keep ironing that spot just to dry it. And while doing that, there is a good chance it will spit out even more water and create another wet spot. An iron with a steam function should be able to hold water without randomly leaking it all over your clothes, particularly when the steam function is turned OFF. That is about as basic a requirement as you can have for an iron. For the price, this is completely unacceptable. My much cheaper previous iron worked ten times better than this one. I am going back to that and wish I had never wasted my money on this. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this piece of junk. Expensive does not mean high quality, and this iron is a perfect example.

This iron delivers professional-level pressing results for everyday garments. It suits anyone who prioritizes crisp, wrinkle-free clothes and does not mind emptying the tank after every session to prevent buildup.

This the first new iron I purchased in 20 years. I had a Rowenta from 2001. It still worked but the steam mechanism was clogged for good. This iron is so much lighter than my old one. My first task was 16 sheer curtains. The light polyester fabric was easy to iron and the light weight of the iron was appreciated. I did have to turn the iron up to a much higher setting than the polyester setting. Next I ironed a set of cotton sheets. I never buy 100% cotton sheets but I thought I would try them. These came out of the wash a stiffly crumpled lump and needed to be ironed before I could use them again. I never ironed sheets before in my life and this was not an easy task. It is a queen set and I had the iron on the highest setting. I had to fill the water well 3 times before I completed the job. Filling is not recommended when the iron is hot but I didn't want to wait for the iron to cool. Is there an iron that fills easily? I don't know, but I dribble the water everywhere. I used only distilled water and I hate to waste it. It's not the price, it's having to go buy it. So back to ironing, this is where the light weight wasn't in my favor. It was a bear to remove the wrinkles from the cotton and I had to press down quite a bit. I have ironed cotton shorts with my old heavy iron without a problem but without comparing the same irons on the same fabric, I can't really say if the weight was the issue. My third experience was with a manmade fiber jacket purchased from one of those Chinese websites that arrives a mass of wrinkles in a plastic bag. I also had difficultly removing the wrinkles. I was now regretting throwing away my old iron. I would have gladly gone back to spraying the water from a bottle for steam. The retractable cord is a fantastic feature and the iron heats up quickly. I find myself accidentally moving the temperature dial as I iron because it's behind the handle and moves easily. I feel like they made advancements with the looks and retractable cord but have sacrificed the quality of materials and this reduces the functionality.

I've only had it for two days, but I used it to iron my clothes for the work week and absolutely love it. It heats up quickly, works incredibly fast, and I didn't experience any leaks or issues, even after ironing quite a bit of clothing. I'm very happy with my purchase. As an added bonus, I bought a Used–Like New item at a fraction of the original cost, and it arrived looking brand new!
