Great hand work out
These are great hand exercisers. The work out the hand, fingers and wrist. They are actually fun to use. I went with the string pull version (drastically cheaper) to see if I would like it or even use it. The string pull is straight forward and gets the unit spinning well enough.

Works fantastic and it's fun to use!
This is the best device I've used to rehab my hand/wrist. I've had 2 surgeries for an injury which included a trapeziectomy with LRTI, vein ligation, median and radial branch nerve excision and burial, median nerve entrapment release, palmar tendon release, and scar tissue removal. Recently my therapist told my dr I was coming to the end of therapy being beneficial. I didn't accept that and knew there was still more work to be done. Luckily, my husband had been through work hardening for a back injury many years ago and had paid attention to what other pts were doing! He talked to me about what he'd seen and I immediately started searching for the devices he talked about. I felt a difference in my ROM, strength, and pain level after the first day of use. Today is day 4 and I couldn't be more excited about the results so far! I bought flexbars, putty, and a web but feel this spinner has been the most helpful and it's really fun to use. After trying this spinner and seeing how beneficial it was I bought my boys who are in jiu jitsu one each to help with their grip strength. I gave one to my daughter in-law to help her strength but also her anxiety. I bought a 5th one for my trucker husband to add to his dumbell exercises on the truck. This is such a great device!

I find this to be quite a hand, finger, and forearm workout
UPDATE AS OF 8/26/2013 at the bottom of review.. I bought this device to re-strenghten my hands after neurosurgery. Previous to my surgery, I worked with my hands(mechanical) quite a lot, did indoor rock climbing, previous weight lifting and in general use my hands quite a bit, so I think I can accurately describe whether or not this is a good workout. I would say after surgery I lost about 75 percent of my strength. I used this for a month or two, and my grip strenght steadily increased, as well as my forearm tone. I can't give you an accurate number on how much grip strenght I regained in pounds of force, but I can tell you my grip is pretty much back to normal. I stopped using this device months ago, but noticed what I thought was hand weakness again, so I started using it again. I can tell you the improvements happen right away from day to day, and if you do too much, your fingers, hands and forearms will definitly burn. This device works. Ease of use: I can tell you some people have a real hard time with this. You have to match the rythem of the device and spool up the Gyro. Some people can't seem to learn how to do this for quite a while, but I can tell you that after you learn how, it is second nature. Durability: This is where the device looses a star. I find that after treating pretty carfully, it is getting a little less smooth to gryo up, and it is getting a little sloppy at the lower speeds. To be fair, I did drop it once. Cost: I believe for what you get, it is reasonable. Fun factor: Much more fun than any other hand exercise I had done when I was a regular weight lifter. Hand exercises are generally pretty boring. You can't see results in your hands, and unless you have a weakness preventing you from doing something, you won't notice. This however, is fairly fun, and quick to do. UPDATE: This device has helped me regain 100% of my grip strenght. The nerves healed sure, but this also worked in conjuction with the healing process. The effected nerves were in my cervical spine, which don't heal like peripheral nerves do, so it is quite inspiring that I got no only my grip strenght back, but maybe a little more. I can crush peoples hands now, and I have kind of thin, "piano" fingers. I have never had problems with my grip, but I am not someone who others would think would have a "strong grip". Before using this device, after surgery, I could squeeze someones hand, and they would say "seriously, are you really squeezing?" Not that I go around doing that, but I have asked my good friends to let me re-test my grip strenght on them. I would like to buy a hand Dynamometer, just to see how far I can go. The results are inspring, and like I said above, it really isn't boring to do.

It’s great!
Once you get the hang of it, it’s like playing with a toy that makes you stronger… Fun and awesome!

Too much trouble trying to get it started with the string attached and doesn’t last very long
Too much trouble, trying to hand story with a string would not recommend this product

Decent, but not long-lasting
My job involves a lot of keyboard use, resulting in occasional wrist pain, so I've been looking at various wrist exercisers to try to help. A gyroscopic wrist exerciser sounded more fun than some of the other tools out there, but I had never used one before, and couldn't quite justify a $50 purchase of something that might or might not work, so I purchased this (relatively) cheap one. It worked well enough, and helped my wrists, even though I only remembered to use it once or twice a week. Well enough, in fact, that I purchased one for a friend who was having more severe wrist pain. He took it to work with him, using it multiple times a day. Within a week he was no longer experiencing wrist pain. Within two weeks, he had managed to wear it out from constant use; its operation became noisy, and he could no longer get it started spinning without the string. I since went on to buy one of the fancier, metal gyroscopic wrist exercisers (the Ironpower force two). It was much quieter, much smoother, easier to start, and gave a more strenuous workout. It also has replaceable parts, in case the plastic rings it slides around on get worn out. The NSD Power Essential Spinner is a decent entry-level wrist exerciser, but it seems to have a limited lifespan. It is fine for occasional use, and a good way to tell if the gyroscopic spinners are for you, but don't be surprised if it wears out.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this! I love it! For as simple of a design as this thing is, it is an amazing developmental tool to have. I use it partly for my bodybuilding purposes, and partly for my fighting attributes training, making it a point to use it daily. The learning curve for using it is not as steep as others may suggest (at least it was not for me; rhythm to match the spin was established in a matter of seconds on my first try), and it only gets easier from there. I have gone on so far as to develop a total of four movement patterns for my training sessions, to get the most complete use of the spinner. Looking for a different, and effective way to train? This is the way to go!

It's so easy to start and we'll worth the money. I would certainly buy one of these again if required
