A different kinda HELL
Where do I start, think of doom remake released in 2016 but with more puzzles, more environment to explore, more blood and guts, better guns, crazier story but less crazy gun action?! Yeh that's about right.Doom Eternal is a.different kinda hell to its predecessor and takes a lot of new mechanics and dips them in to the Doom formula creating a very different yet still very exciting sequal.Everything from the original is still here with its frantic gunplay only you have to aim better and think smarter when doing it. Ammo, health and armour are scarce to begin with but with hard work to build up your state's in-game you will slowly combat this problem. This can sometimes frustrate but also create great ways of getting players out of their comfort zone when using the game mechanics available like for example the new shoulder canon. This item alone creates a whole new weapon window to power up.You now have your own ship! Yeh that's right. This will be your main hub for applying custom outfits and powering up your DOOM GUY! items unlocked in missions will help you accomplish this and makes the game that bit more enjoyable to jump back in to previous missions to gain all the unlocks!Visually Doom Eternal looks epic on the Xbox One and the frame rate is buttery smooth, just how it should be for a first person action shooter and in my opinion is does not disappoint. The only thing I loved about the original was the gunplay felt faster where here you must be more tactical with ammo, power ups and movement but either way I love this game!I feel real doom fans would not be disappointed and don't get me started on the heavy handed soundtrack I think it's better than the original.

Doom Slayer is back and better
Eternal improved so much on the 2016 Doom and trust me it doesn’t disappoint. The gameplay is fast paced exactly how a Doom game should be. There are times where you will be struggling for ammo but what a game without some challenge. All of the demons are exactly like their counterparts in the original dooms. A must get for any Doom fans out thereFor you guys who did pre ordered this and didn’t revive a code for Doom 64, this is because it comes with the Rip and Tear pack so look in your uninstalled games after putting that code in and it will be thereAnd for the people that unfortunately missed out, Doom 64 is available to buy separate on the Xbox store/PlayStation store

These games are an absolute blast! As someone who just started playing, I am completely addicted and cannot stop playing. If you are on the fence about diving in, give them a shot on Xbox GamePass you might just discover your new obsession! If you love them as much as I do, you will definitely want to snag all of the games for yourself!

Doom Eternally out of ammo
The Good:- Excellent graphics and environments. Interesting story. Intense music. The Bad:- Some enemies don’t suit control pad play. Ammo is always a problem. One multiplayer mode. Difficulty spikes. Awful platforming sections.Doom 2016 is quite possibly one of the best reboots a series has ever seen and in some respects helped set the bar for how reboots should be done. Sadly though, the follow up, Doom Eternal seems to make two steps forward in some areas but at least one step back in others sometimes three steps back! Now before I carry on I should say I’m no stranger to FPS and always enjoy playing them on the second highest difficulty for the challenge but this is the first game in years where I was forced to lower the difficulty to its lowest setting as it starts off insanely hard. Also I played on the Xbox X.The game begins with our hero, Doom Slayer, arriving at an already devastated Earth after the armies of Hell beat him to it. You then suit up and take on the hordes of Hell armed with only a shotgun (no pistol this time!) and a hatred of anything spewing from the depths of Hell. However, it was at this moment I noticed something was off. You can only carry 16 shells and with some enemies taking two or three per kill I found myself out of ammo in the first room. So I used my trusted fists to take them on like I did in Doom 2016 only this time…they did nothing. I punched and punched and all that happened was they moved back a little bit but it didn’t actually kill them like in the previous entry. Yes, the glory kills return and punching them when they glow orange still works great but the fist in normal use are worthless. I did manage to find a chainsaw, use it on a demon which explodes into a cloud of ammo but the fact still remains, I had ran out in the first room and only had one gun and a pair of fists made from foam. This is a problem that persist in the game all the way through. Even after upgrading to max ammo I was always running out after an intense battle and found myself avoiding using certain weapons like the Crossbow style gun (I’ve forgotten its name) as it used the same ammo as the plasma rifle but it used up too much. If truth be told, I never felt like I was a force to be reckoned with in this game like I did in Doom 2016. I always felt like I was seconds away from death and that I was the one who should be fearing the demons and not the other way around. However, there are some enemies that do not suit a control pad style of play and clearly have a mouse and keyboard in mind. There is one such monster who carries a shield, shotgun and an axe that also shoots lasers. Not too much of a problem there. If you get too close, he shoots you with the shotgun, too far away he fires a laser and if you fire back at him at the wrong time he holds his shield up blocking it so you have to time your attack just right. Okay, that’s not too much of a problem until we add the dash attack that he has. Basically, he dashes around at the speed of light (usually behind you) and then attacks when you have your back to him (which is also the only time you can attack him back). The control pad simply isn’t suited to take on an enemy of this speed and to add just a little extra salt to the wounds, he also summons ghost dogs to attack you at the same time. I have tried the PC version and it feels so much easier to deal with over the Xbox version. For context, I found the final boss easier to deal with then these guys.My last major gripe with this game is the absolutely pointless and annoying platforming sections that not only kill any momentum the game has going but is overly difficult for no reason at all. This game has added a new gameplay mechanic in the style of climbing. Basically, some walls can be climbed which is a neat idea. However, far too often they do two things with this. The first is hide the walls out of sight making the player wonder around till you finally spot them. A great example of this is when you are stuck at a dead end with no way out only to find the climbing wall is over the edge of a cliff way below you. Why do this? The second is when the player is forced to double jump, double boost and land on a wall that will drop within three seconds as you quickly try to spot the next climbable object before falling to your death. Oh, and if you double jump/dash just a second too early or late, you won’t reach it. I just can’t get my head around why they thought this was such a good idea.So with all that negatively, you probably think I don’t like this game. Well, that’s not really true. The gameplay is as solid as it was before and the inclusion of the missing monsters from the classic Doom look great. I also really enjoyed the Hellish Earth levels where you see cities left in ruins as demons slowly take over. The Hell levels were certainly the stand out ones with just enough level of horror but not to the point of Doom 3’s miserable experience.I did also enjoy the intense battles with several dozen demons running around (although sometimes it did get a little too much to deal with) and after each encounter found myself having to just sit back for a moment to catch my breath! Like I say, these are the moments that really show how good this game could have been and the final boss (I won’t say too much) got my heart rate the highest it’s been in a while. So with that being said it is a real shame there are so many negatives this time around as the game itself is pretty solid. However, the pointless platforming, annoying ammo problems and insane difficulty spikes keep this from being the best in the series. Truth be told I actually enjoyed the Doom64 pre order bonus more than the main game!So would I recommend this game? Well the answer is certainly a yes with a huge but. When the game is good, it is amazing but far too often it will punch you in the face with an unnecessary spike in difficulty for no reason and there is just too much platforming. The game is good but it feels like some areas need more polish and is certainly designed to be played on PC.Gameplay (14/20)Graphics (18/20)Sound (18/20)Replay Value (15/20)Value for Money (15/20)Total (80/100)
